Lily's POV

The funeral happened a month later.

I didn't know death had so much paperwork. Autopsies. Court hearings. Child services investigations. Everyone wanted to know exactly how a seven-year-old froze to death in her own home.

The answer was simple, really. Nobody loved me enough to check.
