Chapter 4: Blake Was on His Knees for Me

Bonnie's POV

The crowd cheered, and the men looked at Blake with envy.

"You're really lucky, man!"

"Queen Layla, I want you to step on my face too!"

"Why can't I be the hundredth lucky one? Can the event continue to one hundred and one?"

"You... you..." Blake's whole body trembled with excitement. He raised his hand to grip my ankle and sniffed obsessively. "Oh... Queen Layla, please step on me hard!"

He even stuck out his tongue, wanting to lick the sole of my shoe.

Catherine, if you saw your man—the one you schemed so hard to steal away—right now competing with a crowd of men to lick the shoe sole of me, the fat pig you've looked down on ten thousand times, what would you think?

Thinking of this, I almost laughed out loud.

I immediately pulled my foot back, restraining the excitement in my heart and my disgust for Blake, not letting Blake lick my shoe sole. I curved the corner of my mouth and swayed my toes. "Alright, next."

The next man squeezed forward, pushing the distraught Blake away.

Blake kept turning back to look at me as he walked, the reluctance in his eyes so obvious.

This scene made me even more gleeful, and I even felt that the three hundred thousand I spent to buy Doomsday Nightclub hadn't been wasted.

Catherine, do you see how desperately Blake wants to be stepped on under my feet!

Sooner or later, even you will be stepped on under my feet!

It seemed that from the moment I bought the nightclub, my ambition began to expand. Blake's performance now only fueled the flames in my heart even more!

I withdrew my gaze, suppressed the surging thoughts, and continued to serve the remaining customers.

At four in the morning, the nightclub closed.

I dragged my exhausted body home, I didn't want to live with my family, so I rented a small place of my own — small and bare-bones as it was, this space was mine alone. No one here to bully me, no one to belittle me. Here, I was in charge. Just like how I wished I could be in charge of my own life.

I didn't even have time to remove my makeup, and fell onto the bed, quickly falling asleep.

But I didn't sleep long before a rapid, forceful knocking woke me up.

"Miss Bonnie Davis! Please open the door!"

I jerked up from the bed, quickly washed my face, threw on a loose T-shirt to cover the short skirt I was wearing, and stumbled to the door in my slippers. I was in such a rush also because in this area, the only people who would address me by my full name were the rental agents!

Standing outside the door was indeed the agent, his face very sour. "Miss Bonnie Davis, I hope you haven't forgotten that today is the day to pay rent."

I really had forgotten!

Yesterday I'd just paid three hundred thousand dollars to Victor, and now there were only a pitiful few hundred dollars left in my account!

I could only take out last night's profits from Doomsday Nightclub to deal with the emergency first. Although it wasn't much, added to what money I had left, it was enough to pay the rent.

After sending the agent away, I looked at my empty wallet and lay on the bed lamenting loudly.

"Sigh! I originally thought that after buying the nightclub I could quit that physically and mentally exhausting job and no longer accept the cold stares and humiliation from my boss and colleagues, but I didn't expect to still be so poor! When will I ever be able to get rid of all the troubles that come from having no money?"

I suddenly sat up, took out Orion's coin pouch from my handbag, and stared at it continuously.

Should I take out some more gold coins for emergency use?

No! I'd already taken ten of Orion's gold coins without his permission, which already exceeded what he should have paid in compensation. If I took money again this time and developed a bad habit, what would I do in the future?

Such a large sum of money—how would I pay it back later?

So, I absolutely couldn't use Orion's coin pouch again!

I tossed Orion's coin pouch into a drawer and locked it, deciding to find an opportunity to return it to him later. As for those ten gold coins I'd pawned, I would definitely redeem them and put them back in the pouch.

Although I temporarily had no money on hand, the nightclub's business revenue was currently pretty good. As long as I worked a few more jobs these next few days, I could always manage.

Thinking of this, I decided I couldn't keep sleeping. I could take advantage of my day off to find another part-time job and earn money to get through this difficult period.

It just so happened that a nearby district was recently organizing an in-person job fair. I took a shower to wash away the smell of alcohol all over my body, printed a few copies of my résumé, and hurried to the job fair venue.

But I didn't expect that I would actually run into Catherine and Blake here!

Blake's family had a cosmetics company, considered a relatively well-known enterprise locally. It was precisely because of this that Catherine had used every means to steal him away from me.

Today, Blake must have come to inspect his family company's recruitment situation.

I quickly lowered my head, avoiding their line of sight, afraid of being noticed by them, but to my disappointment, they still walked toward me.

"Well, well, isn't this our great Chef Miss Bonnie? How do you have time to attend this kind of job fair today?"

Catherine held Blake's arm, covering her mouth with her other hand and laughing in an exaggerated manner. "Could it be that your previous boss finally couldn't stand you, this fat pig, and fired you? How truly sad!"

Blake also smiled falsely and hypocritically. "Bonnie, since you need help, why didn't you tell me? Although my family's company isn't large, we can also arrange a position for you."

"I think this suggestion is quite good." Catherine's expression became more and more malicious. "I think we should arrange for her to clean the men's restroom. After all, with her appearance, aside from the men's restroom, it would probably be very difficult for her to come into contact with men, right? And don't make the salary too low—three hundred dollars a month. How about it, my dear sister?"

I clenched my fists tightly. This kind of humiliation was almost my daily routine in the past. But did I have to just keep enduring it like this?

I stared into Catherine's eyes and suddenly thought of the image of Blake being stepped on under my feet. A strange feeling rose up in my heart, as if in front of Catherine—in front of this sister who had always been considered better than me since childhood—I had gained a kind of spiritual superiority.

I looked at the hand she was holding Blake's arm with. She certainly never imagined that the hand she was holding had been obsessively cradling my foot last night, right?

Thinking of this, I suddenly laughed and for the first time held my head high and chest out in front of the two of them. "Catherine, Blake, I won't trouble you to worry about my work. As for cleaning the men's restroom, that's probably more suitable for Catherine. After all, you even snatch away other people's used boyfriends—you're probably the one who needs to get close to men more, right?"

I looked at Blake again. "And you, Blake, an ungrateful bastard—what right do you have to yell at me? Don't forget, if it weren't for my cooking skills, you would have died from anorexia long ago! If I tell the media about this, what do you think will happen to your family company's stock price?"

"So you two had better not provoke me! If I get unhappy, you'll both be finished!"

After throwing down these words, I raised my head and stuck out my chest, forcefully pushing through between the two of them. No matter how furious they were behind my back, in any case, I had thoroughly vented my anger.

After attending the job fair, I relied on my own cooking skills and successfully obtained a short-term part-time job as I'd wished. Just when I thought today was a good day and that I'd been blessed by the goddess of luck, I suddenly received a call from my mother.

Seeing the two words "Mom" on my phone screen, I began unconsciously trembling all over. If Catherine and Blake's humiliation could make me feel extremely oppressed, then my mother's favoritism and controlling nature was what truly made me collapse.

Her calling me at this time couldn't possibly be to greet me. Without even thinking, I knew it must be because Catherine had complained to her.

I took a deep breath and carefully answered the phone. "Hello? Mom..."

"Bonnie! Go apologize to Blake and Catherine immediately!"
