Chapter 10
Third Person POV
“What the hell just happened?!” One of the waitresses yelled, trying to stand to her feet but the floor was too slippery from the water.
The waitresses were confused as to where this water had come from all of a sudden. Erin was mopping the floor on the other side of the restaurant. How could she have gotten this water to them so quickly?
They looked around frantically, trying to see if there was a leak or something.
“Did that bitch splash water at us?!” One of them hissed once she finally managed to get to her feet.
They glanced in the direction of Erin but then realized that she was gone.
…
Gavin’s POV
Gavin spent the better part of his day in his office. He made a complete fool of himself with Susanna that previous night.
He royally fucked up.
“Because you want Erin’s sweet—”
“Shut up,” Gavin stopped his wolf before he continued his sentence. Though, he knew what his wolf was saying was true.
“Beta Seth, did you find anything out about Erin’s husband?” Gavin asked in a mindlink.
Per usual, Seth responded quickly.
“Yes, sir,” Seth said, sheepishly. Gavin knew that Seth was hoping that Gavin would have forgotten about this request. He doesn’t want Gavin to get mixed in with this simple she-wolf. Even Gavin knew he shouldn’t get mixed in with this she-wolf. But he couldn’t help himself.
He remembered how Erin had made him feel all those years ago. Back in their high school days. She was so beautiful and carefree, but she was also very proper, and she knew what she wanted out of life. The lifestyle she had envisioned for herself, certainly wasn’t’ the lifestyle she had currently.
Gavin couldn’t help but wonder what went wrong in her life to cause her misfortunes. Perhaps it was her husband. He must be poor and treat her terribly.
“Her husband’s name is Henry. He’s a very well-known Lawyer and incredibly rich,” Seth continued to explain.
There was a jab of pain in Gavin’s chest that he couldn’t explain. It wasn’t a feeling he was familiar with.
So, if her husband was rich, then why did Erin insist on making herself appear poor? It wasn’t making any sense.
“I see,” Gavin replied with a little hesitation as he processed that information.
“I hope that doesn’t change your mind about Miss Susanna. Even if this she-wolf does have a wealthy husband, that doesn’t make her a proper lady. She doesn’t fit the image we are trying to create of you.”
Gavin knew his Beta was right, but he still couldn’t help but think about Erin often.
“I’m hungry. Can you get the car ready? I’m thinking of going to dinner this evening.”
“Yes, Alpha,” Seth said before the mindlink was disconnected.
“What do you expect is going to happen when we show up at her place of work?” Roman asked curiously.
Gavin didn’t justify that with an answer; instead, he stood and left his office.
Seth was already waiting by his car by the time he got outside.
“Do you know what you’d like to eat?”
Once Gavin told him the name of the restaurant, Seth frowned, staring around his face for a long while.
“Are you sure you wouldn’t want something with more privacy and security? That restaurant is also very mediocre at best,” Seth said, raising his brows.
Seth wasn’t stupid, he knew exactly why Gavin chose that restaurant.
“No one has the right to interfere with where I go for dinner,” Gavin said coldly.
“But—”
“No buts, I’m in charge of my pack. You can shut up.”
“Yes, sir,” Seth said, sounding defeated.
…
Erin’s restaurant was across town; but with Seth’s quick driving, it didn’t take long to get there. By the time they reached the restaurant, Roman was over the moon excited to see the she-wolf that was once his mate. Gavin was admittedly excited too, though he tried to keep that excitement off his face.
“I can already smell her,” Roman breathed, sniffing the air. “Goddess, she smells so good.”
Her scent alone was enough to make Gavin’s member shift in his pants. He had to adjust himself before getting out of the car. Thankfully, Seth didn’t notice.
As they got into the restaurant, her scent was all over the place making his mouth water. The restaurant also smelled of greasy foods, which was something Gavin tried not to eat a lot of unless he was drinking.
“Are you sure about this?” Seth asked, scrunching his nose at the scent.
Gavin ignored him and went straight toward the back corner of the restaurant; the most secluded area.
“She’s coming!” Roman breathed.
Gavin turned his attention to those who occupied the restaurant, glancing around to see if he could get a glimpse of the gorgeous Erin. The one who had broken his heart and the one he evidently couldn’t stop thinking about.
She wore her black waitress uniform; it hugged her body perfectly, fitting around her every curve. Her hair was tied up in a bun and dampened from the sweat. She was working hard, rushing around to each table. Beads of sweat formed on the nape of her neck and Gavin couldn’t help but lick his lips, wanting to taste her that much more.
He found her captivating. She hadn’t yet noticed him, or maybe she was pretending to not notice him. She had pretended to not know who he was in the city when he was with Susanna; would she continue that ruse in her place of work?
Another waitress went to their table; she looked average but she stared at him eagerly. She knew exactly who he was; everybody knew who Gavin Pierce was.
“Hello, Alpha,” she breathed. “Can I get you started with any drinks? Maybe an appetizer?”
“I want another waitress,” Gavin said without hesitation.
Her eyes widened and he could see the pure disappointment on her face.
“This is my section…” she said with a pout.
“I don’t care,” he said, glancing at Erin. “I want that one.”
The waitress turned and narrowed her eyes at Erin. She stayed still for a moment; her entire body was tense. He could see the annoyance clear on her face as she turned back to him.
“Of course. I’ll go get her,” she said through a tightened jaw.
Just as she walked toward Erin, Gavin could feel intense stares from Seth from across the table.
“What are you doing?” Seth nearly growled.
“I’m doing whatever I want to do,” Gavin shot back, silencing Seth. “Mind your place, Beta.”
Gavin glanced back at Erin who was now looking in his direction with a pale face. The other waitress was walking away from her, and Erin looked furious as she narrowed her eyes at him.
She folded her arms across her chest and stalked over to him.
“Hi, Erin.”
He greeted her with his mouth curled up as he always had since high school. She could never resist his smile. He was sure he still had the same effect on her even now.
Their night in the hotel proved that.
But in this case, she looked anything but intrigued by him.
She stopped at his table, keeping her eyes locked on his.
“Gavin, you need to leave, right now.”
