Chapter 103
Gavin’s POV
Gavin held Susanna’s diary in his hands with disbelief.
He ran his fingers down the pink exterior and traced his thumb across her name which was engraved in gold, cursive letters.
He had to admit, he was a little sad that she had to die. He had some hope that he would be able to get her back from the Slayers, but now that hope was gone.
“What are you waiting for?! Open it!” Roman growled; he was being impatient and practically panting.
Gavin rolled his eyes and forced the lock on the diary open. He scanned the first couple of pages in wonder. She started this diary a few years ago and it seemed as if she’s been writing in it every day.
Most of the entries were about Gavin and not to his surprise, she was mainly after him for his money and reputation. It seems as if a lot of her behavior were due to her neglectful parents. It was true that Susanna’s parents were incredibly neglectful.
They never cared for Susanna, only her popularity. Her father, being the Alpha of the Shadowmoon pack, only cares about popularity in general. The more popular the Alpha, the more resources they can get for their packs without the need to fight.
The Alpha convention could turn into a bloodbath if certain Alphas aren’t voted for and chosen to collect their resources first. Susanna’s father was one of the most popular Alphas and always got chosen first. He’s used Susanna her whole life to gain even more popularity.
This was why it was so important to Gavin to gain popularity as well; that way he can properly gain resources for his pack. Gavin had everything he needed to maintain his current status; good looks, charm, strength, and fierceness, not to mention the money. But the one thing he didn’t have, which could push him over the edge, was a Luna.
Susanna was always the best choice for him because of how popular she and her family are. But Susanna was never the woman Gavin wanted.
He continued to flip through the pages until he got to the more recent entries.
“This one seems to be the first day she realized her mind wasn’t her own…” Gavin said to his wolf.
Dear Diary,
I’m going insane. Literally insane! I thought I heard a voice in my head. A woman. And no, it wasn’t my inner voice. This voice didn’t sound like me at all.
Should I go to the doctors?
I heard it after I left Gavin’s home; after he called me “Erin.” I have no idea who that woman is and it worries me that there might be something going on.
I wanted to look more into this “Erin” lady and that’s when I heard the voice!
“We have a common enemy, and we aren’t going to let her win.”
After that, I think I fell asleep because I just woke up and I feel so weird. Like my insides hurt. It must have been a crazy dream right?
But then, why do I feel like it wasn’t?”
Gavin stared at the entry in shock. He remembered that night when he called Susanna’s name. She’s been a vessel since that night?
How did he not know this?
He flipped through a few more pages until he reached the end. He realized once he got to the last page that her last entry was only a couple of days ago. She’s been missing for the past couple of days, so, she must have come here.
Deary Diary,
I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m so scared. They are forcing me to do these cruel things and they aren’t giving me any kind of choice. They broke me out of jail and took me to my home. I threatened my father, telling him he needs to pack everything and go, or I’ll burn him and everything around him to the ground.
I had never seen my father look so frightened of me before. He packed up everything, including my mother, and they left.
The voice kept saying that I failed them and now it’s my life on the line.
I’m worried tonight might be my last night alive. I have a feeling something terrible is going to happen…
Gavin closed the diary and placed it back on her vanity. Susanna was frightened up until her very last day.
She wasn’t in control of herself; maybe Erin killing her was just self-defense. Or maybe it was the Slayers that killed her and set it up to look like Erin.
“Alpha!” Seth said through a mindlink. “You’re going to want to turn on the news.”
Gavin furrowed his brows together and went over to Susanna’s large TV across her room. He turned it on and it was already at the new station.
“New footage has been released to the press. It’s the security cameras at the restaurant that was burned. It seems the fire was being created by this woman and then at the end, it seems she breaks her own neck. What a turn of events. I’m sure none of us were expecting that Miss Susanna would snap her own neck after setting fire to a small local restaurant.”
Gavin’s heart fell into his stomach as they played the video. It was a clear video of Susanna starting the fire. It seemed as if Erin was using her abilities to put the fire out and she was trying to reason with Susanna. For a moment, it looked like Erin might have gotten through to her. The fire was stopping, and Susanna was just staring at her with this different expression.
But then, Susanna did the unthinkable. She grabbed her own head and twisted her neck. Ultimately breaking it and falling to the ground. It left Erin stunned in her place and by the time the fire was completely gone, others began to gather around to see the crime in front of them.
Erin looked incredibly guilty but now after this footage was released, it’s clear now that she didn’t do anything wrong.
He knew at that moment that he needed to go see Erin and apologize for ever thinking she could have done something malicious. He sent a quick mindlink to his gammas telling them to back off Erin going forward.
Now, he just had to hope that she would talk to him.
He left Susanna’s house and made his way across town until he reached Erin’s small home. There didn’t seem to be any light through the windows, which was odd because it was a bit later in the evening.
He knocked on the door and waited for somebody to appear.
“Alpha Gavin…” he heard a voice coming from behind him. “I’m sorry, but you won’t find anyone there right now.”
It was a small woman that lived across the street. She was an older woman and had incredibly kind eyes. She gave him a fond smile, but there was a hint of worry in her expression.
“Where did they go?” Gavin asked, furrowing his brows together.
“She fell ill last night. She was coughing up blood and having chest pains. She passed out in the kitchen,” the woman said, shaking her head with dismay written all over her face. “I saw an ambulance take her away a little over an hour ago.”
