Chapter 108

Gavin’s POV

Gavin was about to return to the hospital to see Erin; the doctor had just called and told him that Erin was awake and requesting him.

However, Henry called, delaying Gavin’s plans.

“Do you know where Judy is? She’s not answering the phone I gave her,” Henry said as soon as Gavin answered the phone.

“Last I checked she was at the packhouse with Jill. I’m not there currently. I’m about to head back to the hospital,” Gavin explained.

“I think I made a mistake by letting Judy stay with you,” Henry said; there was something in his tone that Gavin didn’t recognize, and he was a bit worried about it.

“Why do you say that?” Gavin asked, slowing his movements before he strays too far from his pack.

“I had a visit with her husband today. Apparently, Judy is insane and she’s the one that beats him,” Henry explained.

Gavin stifled a laugh; Judy was a small and seemingly kind woman. Whereas Mr. Conrad, her husband, was quite large according to his pictures. He couldn’t see Judy being the abuser in this situation.

“I know it sounds ridiculous,” Henry continued. “But I can’t rule anything out. Apparently, her wounds are self-inflicted. If that’s true, then she’s dangerous and shouldn’t be anywhere near your packhouse.”

Gavin felt frozen for a moment as he let that process. The likelihood of this being true was slim, however, it wasn’t a chance he was willing to take. Especially considering all those who are after his family.

Jill was at the packhouse alone with her; it was probably a good idea to turn back in that direction and just check on her.

“Okay; I’m going back to the packhouse. I’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, maybe you should get to the hospital. Erin just woke up and I think having a familiar face there would be beneficial.”

Henry was quiet for a moment and Gavin knew he was probably irritated.

“How do you know she’s awake?” Henry asked through his teeth.

“The doctors called me.”

“They called you, but they didn’t call me?” Henry asked.

“Are we really going to have this conversation now?”

There was a moment of pause while Henry allowed those words to process.

“I suppose not,” he muttered. “I’ll head to the hospital now. But let me know if Judy is still at your packhouse. If so, don’t let her go anywhere until I can talk to her.”

“Sure,” Gavin said as he hung up the phone.

As he shoved his phone back into his pocket, he couldn’t help the sly smile that spread across his lips. He enjoyed getting a rise out of Henry. Even Henry had to know that Erin will always be Gavin’s. She’s his mate and their bond weren’t going anywhere.

It’s not like Erin was going to let Henry mark her. This was good for Gavin. It meant he still had a chance.

Without another thought, Gavin went back to his packhouse. He was greeted by some of the packhouse tenants and workers, but none of them were Judy.

“Where’s Judy?” Gavin asked one of the workers.

They looked at one another questionably.

“Last we saw her she was with Jill,” the worker shrugged.

Gavin rushed up the stairs and toward Jill’s room. He didn’t sense his sister anywhere nearby and the upstairs was extremely quiet. Too quiet to have anybody lurking around. His heart was heavy as he reached Jill’s room.

He gave the door a courtesy knock, waiting for someone to make themselves known to him, but he was met with silence.

He opened the door, only to find the room completely empty.

This didn’t make any sense; even Jill’s belongings were completely gone. The suitcase that sat in the corner of the room was also gone.

Which meant Jill took off somewhere.

She promised Gavin that she would go to the safe house, but apparently, that was a lie.

He went further into her room, which is when he noticed a small piece of paper on her bed.

It was a note.

I’m sorry Gavin. I know I promised I’d go to a safe house, but I just can’t do it. I hope you forgive me someday. I love you… your sister – Jill.

It was a seemingly normal note, however, Gavin knew Jill’s handwriting, and this certainly wasn’t it. He crumbled the note in his fist and shoved it into his pocket. He had a nasty feeling about this, and he also had a feeling Judy has something to do with this.

He grabbed his phone and called Jill; however, it went straight to voicemail. He called Henry next.

“Did you find Judy?” Henry asked.

“Is that Gavin?” A voice that sounded like Erin said in the background.

It felt so incredibly good to hear her voice that Gavin almost forgot what he was calling about. Henry was saying something to her that silenced her though.

“I think she might have taken Jill somewhere,” Gavin explained. “She’s not here and there was a note saying she left basically. But it’s not Jill’s handwriting… something is wrong.”

“You don’t think Judy kidnapped her, do you?” Henry asked with worry clear in his tone.

“I’m saying someone took her and Judy isn’t here,” Gavin said. “I’m not sure what that means or what she’s capable of.”

“Why would she want your sister?”

Gavin was also questioning that as well. But then, a thought roamed through his mind. April, Gavin’s blackmailer, always said that she has eyes and ears all over the world and they come in different forms. Maybe Judy was one of her spies and that’s why she took Jill.

The thought was sickening and infuriated Gavin, but at least it was a lead.

“I’m coming to the hospital. I need to make sure Erin is okay,” Gavin said as he walked out of his packhouse.

“I’m here and she’s fine,” Henry said in return. “You should find your sister.”

“I have no leads. You know Judy better than me. Where would she take her?” Gavin asked.

“I’m not too sure,” Henry admitted. “Apparently I don’t know her as well as I thought.”

“Maybe her husband would know?”

“Oh yeah; I can try to get a hold of him,” Henry agreed. “Okay, yeah. Come to the hospital and I’ll get a hold of Mr. Conrad. We will find your sister.”

“I know we will,” Gavin agreed.

He hung up the phone without another word and shifted into his wolf form so he could get to the hospital quicker. It felt good to stretch out the legs of his wolf as he ran through the forest at lightning speed. Everything turned into blurs around him as he whipped past his surrounding area.

The hospital came into view quickly and raced through the parking lot until he reached the main doors. He shifted back into his human form and grabbed a pair of clothes that he tucked away.

As he dressed, he smelled something strange in the air. It wasn’t a smell he was too familiar with, but he almost knew what it was. At least he thought he did. But it had to have been his imagination. There was no way there was bombing dust in this location… that would mean—

KABOOM!!!
