Chapter 111

Erin’s POV

A glimmer of a smile spread across Judy’s lips. I stood frozen in the center of a small town in the human world. It wasn’t far from the border into the werewolf world.

Jill remained tied to a pole, struggling to get herself free. I could see the pure horror on her face and the tears forming in her eyes once she realized how serious this situation really was.

Judy had the ability to form bomb dust from her fingertips and this entire town reeked of it. Jill reeked of it.

There was enough bomb dust to explode most of the human world. All Judy had to do was flick a match and everything would turn to dust.

I could use my abilities to wash the dust away, but not quickly enough and not without Judy noticing.

I glanced around the town; there weren’t many people outside, but there were some passing by. However, they were frozen in place. Which meant Gavin used his abilities to freeze time without me even noticing.

“I’m sorry to deceive you Henry dear. But I made a promise to a dear friend that I would say nothing. I needed to get close to you… that way I can get close to those two,” Judy continued to explain, glancing in my direction.

I stared at her in disbelief. I didn’t understand what she wanted from me and who her friend was.

“Release Jill,” I demanded. “She has nothing to do with anything. She’s an innocent bystander.”

“Oh, she’s not so innocent,” Judy chuckled. “Besides, she’s Gavin’s sister. She has value to me. I can use her to get what I want.”

“What exactly do you want?” Gavin asked.

His demeanor was calm; I could tell he wasn’t worried at all and I’m sure that made Jill feel a little better. There was no way he was ever going to let Judy hurt his sister.

“I want her,” Judy said, staring at me. Her eyes darkened as her smile widened. “I want her dead.”

“Why?” I asked. “What did I do to you?”

“It’s not what you did to me… but to her,” Judy said with a shrug. “She’s paying me a lot of money to take you out.”

“Who?” I demanded to know. “Why aren’t you telling me the full story? Who is paying you to take me out, Judy?”

“Don’t you already know?” Judy asked, raising her brows. “I thought you would be a lot smarter than that.”

“Answer my question,” I said firmly.

“The leader of the Slayer organization,” she finally answered.

This didn’t make any sense. I knew the Slayers wanted me dead because I was the reason their last leader died. They’ve been after me for a while, which was another reason why I tried to keep a low profile for the last three years.

However, the Slayers and the Killers never worked together.

Why were they working together now all of a sudden?

“I don’t understand. You’re working with the Slayers?” I asked, still in disbelief.

“As I said… she’s paying me very well,” Judy chuckled. “So, you can either come with me, or Gavin’s sister and this entire human world will cease to exist.”

My heart thudded violently against my chest as I made eye contact with Jill. Tears were running down her cheeks, leaving mascara streaks in its place. Her body trembled and I could see the pleading in her eyes.

I went to take a step toward them; I would go with them if it meant that Jill and the rest of the human world lived. I didn’t want anyone to get hurt because of me. I’ve already lost so many people in my past; I wasn’t going to lose anyone else.

But just as I took a step toward them, Gavin held his arm out, stopping me from going any further.

“She’s not going anywhere,” he said in a low and threatening tone.

He was still oddly calm, which made me think he had a plan.

Judy rose her brows at him; she obviously wasn’t expecting him to choose me over his sister. I wasn’t expecting it either.

“Pardon?” She asked, staring up at him. “You’d rather your sister die?”

“Nobody is going to die,” Gavin growled.

Without warning, he was shifting into his wolf and lunging at her. I thought she was going to take out a match and light the bomb dust on fire, but she surprisingly didn’t.

A smirk appeared on her thin lips and soon, other wolves appeared from the trees and bushes. They were part of the Killer organization; they were there to help Judy upon her request.

But how were they not frozen in time? Gavin’s abilities should have worked on them too.

Henry was also shifting into his wolf and running toward them. Henry and Gavin as a team were undefeatable. They were two incredibly strong wolves and I had to admit that I was impressed that they were able to put up a fight with so many other strong wolves and make it look effortless.

I would have typically shifted as well and fought alongside them; I wasn’t the kind of she-wolf that would sit on the sidelines. But somebody needed to get Jill free and while those two were fighting, that somebody had to be me.

I took off in Jill’s direction and she noticed me coming towards her.

Just as I reached her and started untying the rope that kept her attached to the pole, I felt a sharp stab in my leg, and I looked to see Judy kneeling on the ground behind me. She had plunged a dagger into my leg. The sting of the dagger was almost too much for me to handle and I fell to the ground.

It was a normal silver dagger, fatal to a wolf, but she only plunged me in the leg, so it wasn’t a fatal attack. However, the pain was unreal. The dagger must have been laced with something because I could feel this burning sensation coursing through my body.

Soon, I felt fangs digging into my collarbone and I realized another wolf was attacking me.

I screamed out, trying to get myself free.

I attempted to shift into my own wolf, but Emily was far too weak to do so. I could smell something rancid on this wolf’s breath, making me gag. The same sensation I felt from the dagger, I was feeling from the fangs of this wolf as well.

They must have laced them both with something.

Jill was screaming through the tape that kept her mouth closed, trying to get Gavin and Henry’s attention.

Gavin looked over immediately when he felt I was in danger.

It was our mate bond; he could feel my pain and I saw the utter fear in his eyes when he noticed I was hardly moving.

They weren’t trying to kill me, only weaken me and damage me so they can drag me away to the one person who wants to kill me more than anything.

The leader of the Slayer organization.

Whoever she might be.

Gavin lunged toward us, dodging the attack of the other wolves.

I felt the warm blood pooling under my fragile body; I was losing blood quickly and I knew it was only a matter of time before I completely passed out.

But I was trying to hang on just a little longer.

Judy was attempting to dodge the attacks of Gavin and trying to get her matches out of her pocket. But Henry came out of nowhere, knocking her to the ground, spilling the unlit matches in the process.

Gavin was by my side quickly, wrapping me in his arms and lifting me against his chest.

“Stay awake,” I heard his distorted voice. “You’ve been poisoned with wolfbane. Those bastards laced themselves and their weapons. That’s why my abilities didn’t work on them.”

Everything around me was starting to fade. My body was numbing.

I felt Gavin’s warm touch against my skin; my body was relaxing against his and I felt my heartbeat quickening its pace. My breathing was becoming stronger, and I could no longer smell the blood that oozed from me.

“He’s transferring our injuries,” Emily weakly explained as she started to become stronger with each passing moment.

“Transferring our injuries to who?” I asked in return.

She didn’t have an answer, but I soon figured it out when I lifted my head and watched as every wolf around us began dropping to the ground and screaming in agony.

They were all dropping like flies and dying as I was growing stronger. We both watched as the chaos came to an end.

I went to look at Judy to see if she dropped as well, but she was already gone.

The wolf that had bitten me was the last to fall; I could see the life draining from his eyes as he realized that he was dying. But just before he died, he narrowed his eyes at Gavin and spoke lowly words through his canines.

“Traitor…”
