Chapter 114
Gavin’s POV
Gavin wasn’t stupid; he knew that Erin and Henry were never married. But he also knew that Henry was in love with her.
Erin looked so upset as she sobbed into her hands.
“I don’t understand. Why would he break up with you?” He asked.
“He accused me of still loving you. Then, he told me to get out,” she explained with slumping shoulders. “I didn’t know where else to go… so I came here…”
Gavin was pleased that she went to him instead of elsewhere. That must mean that what Henry was saying must have been true. At least may be a little true.
“You are always welcome to stay here, Erin,” Gavin said, wrapping his arms around her.
It felt nice to have her there and immediately after Gavin had wrapped his arms around her, it seemed her body had relaxed greatly.
“I’m sorry for piling this on you,” she breathed into him. “I just didn’t know what to do.”
“You don’t have to apologize to me. You never have to apologize.”
She continued to cry as his wolf began chirping in his ear.
“Our mate smells so good. I want to bend her over the desk and have my way with her.”
“Enough of that, Roman. She’s obviously hurting. Now is not the time to be fantasizing about her.”
“Are you seriously going to deny the fact that your cock is growing hard from her very presence,” Roman teased. “She wore a tight blouse and a short skirt. You can practically smell her desires.”
He was right; Erin looked incredibly good in her outfit. She knew what this would do to him; what it’s always done to him.
It was almost like she was doing this on purpose.
She finally lifted her gaze up to him and wiped away the tears that left streaks down her narrow cheeks.
“You don’t mind if I stay here for a little while? Just until I can figure things out?” She asked, biting onto her swollen bottom lip.
She was doing this on purpose.
“You can stay here for as long as you want. My packhouse is your packhouse,” he assured her, trying to keep his tone unbothered, and yet compassionate.
She stepped away from him and grabbed her suitcase off the ground.
“Beta Seth!” Gavin shouted for his Beta who stood outside the door.
Seth was in his office moments later, waiting for orders.
“Take Erin and her belongings to the best guest room in the house. The same one she was in last time.”
“Yes, Alpha,” Seth said with a nod of his head.
He went to Erin and grabbed the suitcase she was carrying. She seemed reluctant to let it go but she eventually handed it over.
Gavin watched as Erin turned away from him and followed Seth out of the office. However, she paused at the doorway and turned back to him, only for a moment.
“Thank you,” she said to him with a hint of a smile.
He nodded to her, and she turned and left his office.
…
Erin’s POV
I was in.
I made up a story about how Henry left me and kicked me out of our home. Gavin bought it just like I knew he would.
Emily was apprehensive about the lie; she didn’t like lying to our mate and honestly, it made me a little uncomfortable too.
I’m glad I learned at a young age how to cry on the spot.
For a moment, I thought he was going to see through my lies. But thankfully, he didn’t.
“I’m sure that little skirt you’re wearing sealed the deal,” Emily chuckled in my mind.
I rolled my eyes at my wolf.
“I didn’t wear it for him,” I told her for the hundredth time.
“Oh, sure you didn’t. It’s not like you knew what it would do to him and his wolf. They were quite turned on.”
My face reddened at the thought; I knew he was turned on and admittedly turned me on too. I was glad when Beta Seth walked in to take me to the guest room.
I walked with Seth up the stairs and down a long corridor until we reached the guest room door, which was down the hall from Gavin’s bedroom.
Seth opened the door and brought my things inside before turning to me.
“I’m sorry about you and your husband,” he said; and he seemed genuine.
Seth and I had an odd relationship. He hated me for a long while up until my last stay at this packhouse; then, we bonded a little.
I wasn’t really sure where we stood now, but hearing his condolences about my fake situation pleased me.
“If you need anything, you know where to find me and the other staff. Make yourself at home,” Seth said, giving me a small yet sad smile before turning toward the door and leaving me alone.
I sighed relieved once I was finally alone. I could finally just be myself and stop crying.
I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and sent a quick message to Henry.
“I’m in.”
I threw my phone on the bed and sat down. I wasn’t lying when I said I was exhausted. It was late in the evening, and I hadn’t really slept well in days. Plus, we just fought a bunch of members of the Killer organization and rescued Jill only a few hours ago.
This investigation might have to wait until the morning.
“We should sneak into Gavin’s room and have a little fun tonight,” Emily chuckled. “Blow off a little steam and destress if you know what I mean.”
“Can you behave yourself just a little bit?” I pleaded with her.
I searched through my suitcase until I came across my silk nightgown.
This nightgown would be perfect to seduce Gavin with. I thought about wearing it many times and showing up at his doorstep with nothing but this on.
I shook my head at the thought, ignoring the growing heat in my features.
I stripped naked and threw the nightgown on. I also took my hair out of its ponytail and allowed it to messily fall around my shoulders.
Just before I slipped into bed, I heard a knock on the door.
My heart nearly jumped into my throat.
I wasn’t decent enough to have any visitors. I went into the bathroom, remembering there was a bathrobe hanging on the back of the door.
Once I put the robe on, I went to the bedroom door and opened it.
It was a young girl in a maid’s outfit.
She bowed her head at me, keeping her gaze fixed on the ground.
“I’m sorry to bother you, but the Alpha asked me to check on you and make sure everything was okay. Also, would you like me to grab you anything? I can get you some tea.”
“Oh, no thank you. I appreciate it though,” I said to her.
“I’ve been assigned to be your personal maid. So, if you need anything at all, please let me know,” she said, bowing her head at me.
I rose my brows and narrowed my eyes at her.
My personal maid?
I wasn’t sure I liked that very much.
“What is your name?” I asked her.
“Anna,” she answered with a small smile.
“Well, Anna, it’s very nice to meet you. But I don’t really have any use for a maid.”
Plus, I didn’t want or need anyone hanging around me for too long because they might catch on to my motives here. But I didn’t say that part out loud.
“It’s no trouble at all,” Anna said, shaking her head with a frown. “I don’t have much to do now since Jill left for that safehouse…”
“I see,” I said, staring around her sunken face. “You were Jill’s maid.”
It wasn’t a question, but she nodded anyways.
“I was shocked when she told me she was going to a safe house. I wanted to go with her, but she said I would be of better use here,” she explained.
“I’m so sorry. That must have been hard. Losing her so suddenly like that…”
She rose her brows.
“It wasn’t very sudden; they’ve been talking about taking her to a safe house for days. She had been packing the last couple of days. I was prepared to lose her, but it still bummed me out.”
Days ago?
But this thing with Judy only happened this morning. How did they know she would need to go to a safehouse days ago?
“I don’t understand… why was she planning on going to a safehouse days ago?”
Anna frowned.
“Oh, I might have said too much. I assumed you knew.”
“Knew what?” I urged.
She was hesitant before she spoke, but her next words made my heart drop into my stomach.
“Somebody is after Alpha’s family.”
