Chapter 115
Erin’s POV
“Somebody is after his family?” I asked, staring at Anna in disbelief. “Who?”
This was my first time hearing this information and I couldn’t believe it. How could he not tell me something as serious as this?
“I’m not sure and I don’t think Alpha Gavin knows either,” Anna said with a timid frown. “But they’ve been after his family for months. His parents are currently living in a safe house and—”
“His parents??” I asked quickly.
I knew his parents weren’t in town, but I didn’t think for a second that it was because he sent them away to a safe house.
“Yes,” she said with a single nod. “They are currently living in a safe house for their protection. He finally convinced Miss Jill to go to a safe house as well. I think this whole thing with Mrs. Conrad convinced her even more though.”
I must have looked as shocked as I felt because Anna, who was examining my face, spoke again in a softer tone.
“I’m sorry to have told you this, mam,” she said, lowering her gaze. “Please don’t tell Alpha Gavin. He’ll be so upset.”
“You can call me Erin,” I told her, bringing myself to the current moment. “I won’t tell him anything. But thank you for telling me.”
She looked relieved to hear that and she nodded her head in response.
“I will let you know if I need anything else. For right now, I’m going to get some rest.”
“Of course,” she said turning away from me and walking toward the door. “Enjoy the rest of your night.”
She was gone in moments.
I sat back down on the bed, still in disbelief over the information I had just found out.
So, Gavin’s family was being targeted. But for what reason?
Gavin is incredibly powerful, so whomever they were must have been even stronger. If not, then Gavin would be able to fight them easily.
But he didn’t fight them because his parents were in a safe house.
Why wasn’t he fighting them?
I brought Theo’s name up on my watch and brought it to my mouth to say a message to him.
“Gavin’s parents are in a safe house somewhere. Apparently, there is somebody after his family. I’ll keep you posted when I know more.”
I pressed send.
…
The next morning.
Gavin wasn’t in the packhouse the next morning. I’ve been told he had a few meetings and an appointment, so he wouldn’t be home till much later.
Beta Seth was with him, so I had to fend for myself for the day.
Anna had breakfast prepared for me in the dining hall.
“Alpha Gavin wanted me to make sure you ate this morning,” she explained with a shrug. “He cares greatly for you. I can tell.”
If only she knew our history. But that wasn’t a story I wanted to share with her.
“There’s only one plate here,” I said with a frown. “Are you not joining me?”
Her eyes widened and she let out a laugh.
“I’ve eaten by myself earlier. I’m not supposed to eat with those above me.”
I frowned, staring around her face.
“I’m afraid I’m not that much above you, Anna. I’m only a waitress.”
“Something tells me you’re way more than that to Alpha Gavin.”
“See… even a complete stranger can tell that Gavin is your mate. You can’t hide your feelings for him,” Emily cooed.
I had to stifle an eye roll.
I was only here on a mission, and I needed to stay in character or this whole mission will be compromised.
Once I finished eating, Anna cleared the table.
I thanked her before dismissing myself.
I didn’t want her following me, so I gave her a couple of tasks to do to keep her occupied for a few hours.
In the meantime, what I needed to do was get into Gavin’s office and find information about his family and who might be after him.
I made my way through the packhouse until I reached the long corridor that led to his office. I wasn’t surprised that his office door was locked. Thankfully, I was a skilled locksmith, trained by the Moonshadow organization.
I used a hairpin to unlock the door and I did so quickly and without anyone noticing.
Once I was inside the office, I turned on the light and made my way to his desk. He had papers scattered all over the place. It was a complete mess.
Gavin had never been one to be disorganized like this; I could imagine his mind must be all over the place knowing his family was in danger.
Some of the papers I noticed were his research on the Moonshadow organization. I knew he was looking into them in the past and he even suspected that I might have been a member. Not that he was wrong, but he can’t know that just yet.
It seems he desperately trying to find the members of this organization for whatever reason.
Could it be because he’s working with the Killers?
I continued searching through his papers and came across another list. They weren’t names that I recognized, but they were all female.
The list was labeled “Blackmailer.”
I narrowed my eyes at the list, unsure of what that could possibly mean.
“Is he being blackmailed?” Emily asked, worrisome in her tone.
“It’s a possibility; but who could possibly be blackmailing Gavin Peirce?”
They would have to be stupid to do such a thing.
“Maybe there’s something on his computer that can give us a hint?” Emily suggested.
I’m sure his computer was passcode protected, but it wasn’t anything I couldn’t crack. I sat down in his desk chair and started typing up all possible passcode solutions, including his birthday.
When that didn’t work, I tried Jill’s birthday.
I did a few other important dates I knew meant something to him, along with some of his favorite numbers.
“What else could he have used for his passcode?”
“Maybe an anniversary. Try the first time you’ve met,” Emily suggested.
I doubt he would use a passcode that reminded him of our relationship. But it didn’t hurt to try.
I typed in the date that we first met and to my surprise it worked!
I couldn’t help the gasp that left my mouth; he used our anniversary as his passcode to his computer?
“Of course, he did; he’s in love with us,” Emily said with a chuckle.
My face reddened but I chose not to respond to that comment. I had to search his computer and figure out why he was being blackmailed and what they are getting him to do. I had a feeling he was being blackmailed into joining the Killer organization.
If that’s the case, then none of this was his fault and I can help him get out.
There was a folder labeled private; I wondered what it contained.
Just as I was about to click on it, the door of his office opened, and I quickly stood to my feet.
Gavin stood at his office door with wide and curious eyes; he scanned my face for a moment, seemingly confused.
“What are you doing in here?” He asked, raising his brows.
“I… uh… I wanted to surprise you,” I said, forcing a smile.
“Surprise me?” He asked, furrowing his brows together. “Who let you in here?”
“Please… you think I can’t get into a locked room?” I asked with a laugh. “I learned to pick a lock when I was a child.”
“Is that so?” He asked, raising only one brow this time.
“Yes,” I said, eyeing him carefully. “I heard you coming, and I wanted to catch you before you dove into your work for the afternoon.”
A smirk played on his lips as he came around his disk and stood only inches from me.
“And why exactly did you want to surprise me?” He asked, lowering his tone to a mere whisper.
A smile played on my own lips as I ran my fingers up his torso through his shirt.
“Because I’ve been thinking a lot about you lately,” I said in a low and husky tone. “Henry was right when he said I still have feelings for you… I can’t deny that any longer.”
He was quiet for a moment as his breathing deepened. Then I felt his arms wrapping around my waist and he pulled me closer to him, closing the small gap between us.
“Do you have any idea how badly I want you right now?” He said in his own low and husky voice.
After a beat of silence, I whispered, “Show me.”
