Chapter 122

Gavin’s POV

“I have to be honest; I’m a little surprised you asked me out. Especially when you didn’t call me after our last time together,” Cassie said, draping an arm through Gavin’s as they made their way through the gardens outside of the packhouse.

Gavin pretended to listen to the things Cassie was saying, but he couldn’t bring himself to care that much. All he could think about while he was with her was Erin.

He wondered if she knew that he was on a date and what she was thinking. He wondered if his plans to make her jealous were working or not.

His wolf was angry with him for deceiving their mate like this, but in reality, it was Erin that was deceiving him.

She was playing hot and cold with him, and it wasn’t fair. He had to teach her a lesson.

He wanted to see how she truly felt for him, and this was the only way he could think of to do that.

“Alpha?” Cassie said, peering up at him. “I’m sorry if I’m talking so much, I’m a little drunk. I’ll be quiet now…”

Gavin gave her a smile and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close to him and spinning her around. She chuckled at the speed and laid her head against his chest as she recovered from being dizzy.

“You are so handsome,” she breathed. “Not to mention you smell so good. I’m surprised you are single.”

He wasn’t about to tell her that his mate was currently inside his packhouse.

He peered over at the house and up at the window he knew led to Erin’s room. Her silhouette was near the window, but he knew she couldn’t see him.

He turned back to Cassie, a darkened look in his eyes as he spoke.

“Would you like to come inside for some wine and quality time?” He asked.

Her eyes beamed at the thought, and she nodded eagerly, taking him by the hands.

“I would love that,” she breathed.

He gave her another award-winning smile before guiding her into the packhouse.

It was fairly empty because most of the staff were sleeping at that point. Only a few night guards remained, but they paid him no attention.

Cassie seemed in awe of the packhouse; only those invited were allowed inside his house. This was the first time Cassie had been invited.

“It’s everything I thought it would be,” she breathed, staring around at all the artifacts that made up the packhouse. “I can’t believe this is all yours.”

“It was once my father’s, but it was passed to me after his retirement. I’m forever grateful to him.”

He slammed the door of the packhouse shut once they were inside. Gavin made himself loud; mainly to get the attention of Erin, which he knew was accomplished because he could sense her nearby.

Cassie chuckled, peering up at him.

“Thank you for taking me out; you were amazing tonight,” she breathed, touching his arm.

He automatically flexed his bicep and gave her another warm smile as she placed her other hand on his other bicep.

“I believe it’s been long overdue,” he told her, keeping his eyes on hers.

“Are you going to invite me to your room?” She asked, batting her long lashes at him.

He knew Erin was on the stairwell and he used this opportunity to really sell himself and make her jealous.

He gave Cassie a flirty smile before wrapping his arms around her thin figure, pulling her close.

At first, she looked surprised by the advance, but then she relaxed, widening her smile at him.

She wrapped her arms around his neck and began kissing the nape of his neck. Her tongue slid across his skin, and he felt her nibbling gently at him.

“You smell so good,” she managed to muster against him.

His eyes found Erin’s and they held onto one another for what felt like an eternity. Her eyes were glazed over as she watched the two of them embracing.

Her face showed no emotions; she almost appeared cold.

Roman was furious with the games that Gavin chose to play with their mate and refused to speak.

It was never a good sign when Roman didn’t speak.

It was like the calm before the storm.

Gavin finally pulled his eyes away from Erin and cupped Cassie’s face in his hands, planting his lips firmly against hers.

She tasted like cigarettes from when she smoked only a few moments before entering the packhouse. He could also smell the rose perfume that she put way too much on.

It wasn’t a pleasant scent or taste, and it only caused his wolf to become agitated.

He could feel Erin’s presence lessening as she went back up the stairs. The small footsteps she made getting quieter, and then the shutting of her door.

Gavin released Cassie, seeing that she was in a daze. She was drunk, no doubt.

“Beta, Seth!” Gavin ordered his Beta to appear to him, knowing he wasn’t too far away.

This brought Cassie out of her trance, and she frowned at him as Seth appeared nearby.

“Can you make sure Cassandra gets home safely,” he asked, turning away from a stunned Cassie.

She looked like she wanted to say something in protest, but she knew better than that. Instead, she stared at the back of his head with shock and disappointment across her face.

“Yes, Alpha,” Seth nodded, escorting Cassie out of the packhouse.

Erin’s POV

“He did that on purpose!!” Emily cried out in agony. “How dare he think he has the upper hand. I should rip his throat out with my teeth.”

I knew she didn’t mean those words and I placed my hand on my chest to calm my wolf. But I could feel her heartache seeping into my own chest.

I have been separated from Gavin for a long time; I have been with Henry. I knew Gavin had many lovers since we were together in high school. I shouldn’t have been feeling this type of way about him with another woman.

But being in this packhouse, making love to him these last couple of days, brought back these old feelings that I couldn’t ignore.

However, I couldn’t let him see that on my face.

I sat on the bed, pressing my knees to my chest and burying my face in my lap.

I’m sure he was in his room right now, having sex with that she-wolf.

She was quite beautiful and way more in his league than I was.

I felt like I couldn’t compete with someone like that.

“Are you kidding me?” Emily scoffed. “You have way more to offer. You aren’t just a waitress you know.”

Speaking of waitress, I had to return to work soon after having the last couple of days off. I wondered how I was going to get through a normal workday.

There was a knock on the door and Anna appeared with a worried frown.

“Sorry to bother you… but Alpha is requesting you in his office.”

I frowned, unsure of what she meant.

“Isn’t he with a she-wolf?” I asked, raising my brows.

She shook her head.

“Beta Seth is taking her home.”

My heart began to beat rapidly in my chest as I stood to my feet. I could feel Emily perking inside of me at the sound of that.

He had his date sent home?

For what reason?

I didn’t ask those questions out loud; I thanked Anna before heading to Gavin’s office, wondering what he could be wanting to see me for.

He was sitting in his office, staring at his computer, when I entered.

“You wished to see me?” I asked, closing the door behind me.

“Why were you watching me on the stairwell earlier?” He asked, pulling his eyes away from his computer to look at me.

I stared at him, silently for a short while.

“Excuse me?” I asked, raising my brows at the question. “What kind of question is that?”

“This is my packhouse, Erin. I require a certain level of privacy. If I bring a woman back to the packhouse, I expect everyone to respect my privacy. I don’t appreciate being spied on.”

“Is that what you wanted to say to me? You wanted to yell at me for spying on your date?” I asked, folding my arms across my chest.

“I also wanted to know why you were snooping around my office the other day. Also, why are you asking around the packhouse about me?”

My heart fell into my stomach; Beta Seth sold me out.

“I don’t know what you are—”

“Don’t lie to me. I need to know the truth. What are you up to?”
