Chapter 129

Erin’s POV

I didn’t realize the snoring had stopped until I heard his voice.

“What are you doing?”

I froze and looked over at him; he was staring at me with an alarmed expression on his face. He narrowed his eyes once he realized I was holding onto his phone.

For a moment, I thought I saw panic crossing his face, but then it changed to anger.

“What the fuck?!” He asked, quickly getting out of bed and rushing toward me in an attempt to grab his phone from my grip.

I quickly took a step away from him, still holding onto his phone.

“Who is this?” I found myself asking, keeping my tone as calm and confident as I could.

“That is none of your business. Give me my phone back.”

“I know that you are being blackmailed,” I said in a breath, causing him to freeze altogether.

“You don’t know anything about that.”

“I know that she is threatening your family. Making you do things in order to protect them. Did she make you join the Killer organization?”

“You are being ridiculous, Erin,” he growled, reaching for his phone again, but once again, I managed to dodge him.

“Just tell me the truth and I’ll give it back,” I ordered.

He finally stopped and stared around my incredibly serious face.

“Who is this woman, Gavin?”

“I don’t know,” he finally said, lowering his gaze as he went to his bed and sat down, seemingly defeated. “She just showed up.”

‘”You don’t know her name?” I asked, watching his face carefully.

He shook his head and met my eyes.

“No,” he answered. “And she wears a mask whenever I see her.”

“What is she making you do? Is she making you join the Killer organization? Is that why that wolf called you a traitor?”

“No; I’m not joining the Killers. I already told you; I don’t know why he called me a traitor. I’ve never seen him before,” he answered, and I knew from his face that he was telling me the truth.

“Then, what is she making you do?”

I stepped closer to him and his eyes fell to his hands.

“Don’t make me say it, Erin,” he muttered.

My heart fell into my stomach. That was enough said; he didn’t need to say anything else.

My suspicions were right; he’s been sleeping with her to keep his family safe. Whomever this woman was, she was incredibly powerful. Powerful enough to get Gavin to do whatever she wants.

I had never seen Gavin like this before and it pained me incredibly.

I sat beside him on the bed and placed his phone on his lap.

“She’s going to be at the Alpha convention?” I asked, keeping my eyes locked on his side profile as he stared down at his phone with dismay written all over his face.

He nodded once.

“She wants to out me if I don’t do what she asks.”

“What does she want?”

“For us to end our engagement.”

Emily wailed at the sound of that; I had to remind her that this was only a fake engagement, but she didn’t care. She cried and howled; it broke my heart to hear the sounds of her distress. She bowed her head, dismissively, and mourned for this relationship.

“Then, we will end our engagement,” I said, ignoring the painful feeling of my wolf that was seeping into my own heart. “We were going to do so after the convention anyways.”

He met my eyes and I could see the seriousness in his expression.

“I’m not ending the engagement,” he said firmly. “There has to be another way.”

“We can just tell her that we are ending the engagement,” I suggested.

He shook his head.

“It would have to be televised,” he said in a sigh. “Or else she won’t believe it.”

“Then, we will figure it out,” I assured him, grabbing onto his hand and gripping it firmly. “Together.”

He met my eyes and for a moment, It felt like time had stopped. I could hear the ticking of the clock on the other side of the room, so I knew he wasn’t using his abilities.

I had stopped breathing it seemed; he always had this effect on me. He had this effect on my wolf.

He leaned and down and kissed me gently on the lips, making me smile into him.

“Even after this convention is over… I’m not planning on letting you go,” he whispered against me.

My heart was beating quickly against my chest and Emily seemed to have perked up a lot. She liked the sound of that and admittedly, I did too.

But this mission was too important to be distracted now; I had to stay focused until after this convention.

“I’ll be right back,” I told him softly. “I’m just going to run to the guest room really quick.”

He looked curious, but he nodded once, allowing me to leave his room and go straight to the guest room. As soon as I was alone, I grabbed my phone off the nightstand and frowned at the screen when I saw that Henry hadn’t responded to my last text message.

That was unlike him; he was usually quick to respond.

I opened the message thread and sent another message.

“Where are you? It’s unlike you to not respond to me. I told Gavin that I knew about the blackmailer. She’s going to be at the Alpha Convention in a couple of weeks. I might need backup.”

I pressed send and placed my phone on the nightstand. I waited a few minutes, but there was no ding.

I frowned.

That was strange.

Where the Hell was Henry?

I decided to brush the thought out of my mind and return to bed with Gavin.

Third Person POV

An engagement was not part of her plan, and she was furious as soon as she saw the media. She clenched her perfectly formed fists and growled at the TV screen.

Erin looked beautiful as always next to Gavin. She also looked incredibly happy. That speech she gave seemed to have spoken to most of the werewolves at the press conference.

But she knew better than to be fooled by Erin’s good looks and charm.

Erin was a killing machine, and she wasn’t going to stop until she was gone for good.

“You almost got caught. How careless can you be?!”

She growled into the phone at her companion.

“I’m sorry. It won’t happen again. Give me a break; it’s been years and they haven’t suspected a single thing.”

“If she finds out the truth before we are ready, it will ruin this entire thing,” she growled. “Don’t make me kill you like I did the others.”

“I assure you; she won’t find out anything.”

“See that she doesn’t. Also, you’ll need to be at the convention as well. Gather everybody else. It will be a takedown.”

“I’m already on it,” he said, confidently.

She liked that.

“Good,” she said, a glimmer of a smile spread across her lips.

She hung up the phone without another word.

Soon, a knock on her office door interrupted her thoughts. She hissed for whomever it was to enter.

Judy Conrad stood before her.

“I’m glad you got away,” she said to Judy who looked sheepishly at her with her large blue eyes.

“I thought for sure they would have caught me,” Judy said, shaking her head with a grimace. “I’m sorry that I failed in getting her to you.”

“You don’t need to worry. I have a better plan at play,” she said, smoothly. “But unfortunately, Miss Judy… you are irrelevant to this new plan.”

“I’m sorry?”

“You are not needed,” she said, her tone turning ice cold.

Judy’s eyes widened just as a couple of men came out of the shadows and grabbed her by the throat.

Judy let out a scream as she struggled against these men; she watched with anticipation as a loud snapping sounded in her office.

Soon, Judy Conrad fell to the ground.

Dead.
