Chapter 130

Gavin’s POV

The memory of Gavin’s childhood had always been foggy for him. But he knew that the Slayer organization had been after Gavin’s family for a long time.

He didn’t grow up with a lot of money; he had to work for everything that he got. But his family had something that the Slayers always wanted, power.

They were incredibly powerful beings not only because of his Alpha father but because Gavin’s parents had incredibly strong abilities.

Gavin’s memory stemmed back from when he awoke in the middle of the night; he was only a small boy, but he remembered hearing the murmurs coming from his parent’s room. His mother sounded worried, and his father was trying to reassure her.

Gavin slipped out of bed and made his way out of his room and to his parent’s room. He didn’t make himself known to them; instead, he pressed his ear against the door to listen to their conversation.

“We can’t get ourselves involved with them. We have to do what’s best for our son,” his mother said in a broken whisper.

“If we don’t, the Slayers will kill all of us,” his father said, a bit louder.

“Ssshh. You are going to wake him up,” his mother scolded.

“Good; he should know that we are in danger. It’s not just us, it’s our entire pack.”

“He’s only a child,” his mother said. “We have to protect him from this. We need to get out of here.”

“We can’t run… you know they will find us,” his father said in return, lowering his tone. “They will always find us. We also can’t abandon our pack. As long as that leader is around, we are never going to be safe.”

They both fell silent, and Gavin stumbled away from the door. That was the first moment he realized that his entire family was in danger.

He heard crying in the room next door, and he knew his sister had woken. It wouldn’t be long before his parents found him in the hallway.

Gavin quickly scurried back to his room.

The Slayers will call all of us.

The words of his father played repeatedly in his mind. There was no way he would be able to sleep again that night. Or any night for that matter.

It was only a matter of time before the Slayers appeared and slaughtered him and his family. He couldn’t let that happen; one day, this will be his pack. He needed to protect his pack at all costs.

Without another thought, Gavin found himself sneaking out of his window. He was on a mission to find the Slayers before they found him. He wanted to convince them to leave his pack alone.

Even at a young age, Gavin was strong and incredibly brave. He was convinced that he could speak to the Slayer’s humanity and get them to back off.

But what he didn’t account for were the Slayers being one step ahead of him and being much smarter.

They had no humanity.

It started with a young girl in a dark alley that was crying for help. She didn’t sound much older than Gavin at the time and he ran to her rescue, being the noble boy that he was.

He saw a bunch of tall figures surrounding this young girl; she had shimmering red hair and fair skin decorated with freckles.

She caught his eyes and held them for a long while; he could see the utter fear in her misty eyes and knew right away that she was in some serious trouble.

“Let her go!” Gavin growled, putting his foot on the ground, and gritting his teeth.

The tall figures turned to him, and their auras were so dark that Gavin got a chill down his spine. He had no plan until that point; he thought he could be intimidating enough to get them to go away.

He was the son of an Alpha after all and nobody dared to mess with him. He was still in the compacity of his pack, so this was his territory.

But it was no surprise to them that Gavin had no abilities and no wolf.

It didn’t take long for Gavin to realize that they were not a part of his pack or wolves for that matter.

They were vampires.

“You are the ones who are after my family?” Gavin asked, keeping his eyes locked on them. “Why?”

The vampires looked at one another with grins before turning back to Gavin.

“The son of the Alpha we assume?” One of them asked, stepping forward. “Powerless and weak.”

“I’m anything but weak and one day, this will be my pack. I demand that you leave.”

This made them laugh.

At that moment, he realized the young girl was gone and he was being surrounded.

“Your family has something we want, and we aren’t going to stop until we get it.”

Not before long, the vampires were taking him.

Everything he endured while under the captivity of the Slayers was wiped from his mind. Not because they did something to erase his memories, but because it was so tragic and horrifying, that Gavin’s brain no longer wished to remember the details of the events.

He wasn’t sure how long he’d been held captive, but he could barely imagine the torment his family had gone through when they found out he was taken by the Slayer organization.

Gavin woke in the hospital with his mother by his bedside. She had been crying and lost a great amount of weight.

“I prayed to the moon goddess that we would find you,” his mother cried, bowing her head to him, and grasping his hands firmly. “I’m so glad she didn’t let us down.”

Gavin’s heart ached knowing that he let her down so greatly. This was his fault entirely.

“We gave up our abilities to get you back…” she whispered. “The Slayers took everything. They raided our packs and wiped the members of all abilities as well… one day they will be back to take yours once they develop.”

Years later, when Gavin reached high school, he met the popular, rich, and incredibly beautiful Erin.

He was lucky enough to get her attention even when he felt he wasn’t good enough for her. His father might have been an Alpha, but they were only middle class. They didn’t come from money like Erin did.

With the loss of their abilities, his father also lost respect and ranking. They barely had the recourses and investments to keep their pack going.

However, Erin never seemed to mind that about him. She still went to every one of his football games and supported him in every way possible. He was so in love with her. Even before he obtained his wolf, he knew she was going to be his mate.

But when he brought her home to meet his parents, his mother was quick to judge.

“I don’t want that snobby girl hanging around you,” his mother said one evening while washing the dishes after their family meal.

“She’s going to be my mate. I’m sure of it,” Gavin told his mother in return.

“She won’t make a good Luna to our pack. She’s too snobby and stuck in her ways. I don’t like her or her family.”

“It’s not up to you to decide,” Gavin said through his teeth.

“I almost lost you once…” his mother said, lowering her tone and gazing up at him. “I won’t lose you again. Not to her. Not to anyone.”

Gavin knew it wasn’t because of Erin’s snobby ways that his mother didn’t want him dating her, it was because she was worried, they’d be labeled gold diggers.

She didn’t want handouts from the rich.

A few years later, after Erin left him, and long after Gavin had developed his abilities, word had gotten out that the Moonshadow organization had killed the leader of the Slayer organization.

This came as a relief to Gavin and his family; this meant that Gavin and his abilities were safe.

But years later, when Erin came into his life, so did his blackmailer. She threatened the lives of his family and he felt there was no other choice but to send them away to a safe house.

Back in the present moment, Erin sat on the bed, staring at her hands, and listening to his story with sadness.

She soon gazed over at him.

“I don’t know what her endgame is,” Gavin admitted. “But everything I do is for my family.”

“This blackmailer came around while these killings started. At the same time, a new leader rose from the Slayers…” Erin said, deep in thought. “What if the blackmailer and the leader of the Slayers are the same person?”
