Chapter 133
Gavin’s POV
They knew where Jill was.
This was the blackmailer’s way of threatening him once again.
Why the hell were they doing this?
What more did they want?
As far as they knew, he was planning on breaking things off with Erin during the convention. That was the blackmailer’s recent and only request.
So, why the added threat?
Gavin knew that he couldn’t keep Jill there knowing that she was being watched by the blackmailer and her followers.
However, he wasn’t sure where he could hide her without the blackmailer knowing about it. It seems regardless of what he does and where he hides his family, she always finds them.
They weren’t going to be safe.
He stared down at the paper he’s kept of all the possible members of the Moonshadow organization.
Gavin had crossed Erin’s name off because she would have told him by now if she was a member of this organization.
He gave her enough chances to come clean.
He knew one thing for sure; he was never going to be able to keep his family safe without their help.
…
Erin’s POV
I woke up the morning before the Alpha Convention to Anna in the guest room. She had a bunch of gowns picked out and she was spreading them across the bed before I was fully awake for the morning.
The Alpha Convention came quickly, and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous. I was finally going to find out who the leader of the organization was and find out for certain what they were after.
I also needed to make sure that Gavin gave a great impression to the important investors during this convention.
Not that he wouldn’t if I wasn’t there.
But I couldn’t mess this up for him.
I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and sat up in bed; peering over at Anna who was hard at work. She hadn’t noticed that I was awake yet until I cleared my throat, startling her.
“Oh, good morning, Miss Erin,” she said with a pleased smile. “Alpha had these dresses picked out for you and he wanted me to have you choose which one you liked best.”
“None of them,” I said, sliding out of bed.
She turned to face me, watching as I went to grab my jeans and a T-shirt.
“But you didn’t even look at them,” she said with a frown.
“I don’t need to look at them to know that I don’t like them.”
“But Alpha Gavin said—”
“I don’t care,” I said quickly, turning to face her. “I’m going to take a shower, and then I’m going shopping. I’ll pick out my own dress.”
She looked at me uncertainly for a moment before glancing down at the dresses she had laid out on the bed.
“Alpha is not going to like that…” she said, seemingly nervous.
I knew it would be her that got in trouble over this, so I had to reassure her that I wasn’t going to let that happen.
“I will speak to him later and tell him that I insisted,” I told her. “He knows how stubborn I can be, so he won’t blame you for this.”
She looked relieved by this, and she nodded.
This convention was a huge deal to Gavin, so I had to look the best I had ever looked before. I was confident that I could make that happen without a problem.
I knew someone who could help me with this.
Once I was done in the shower, I made my way downstairs, running into Anna on my way.
“Would you like to come with me shopping?” I asked just as I passed her. “I could use the company,” I added.
She looked surprised by the offer.
“Are you sure?” She asked.
“Of course.”
She nodded eagerly and together we went into the nearby city. We used my car to get there; neither of us said anything to Gavin or Beta Seth out of fear that they would stop us.
We went into a small boutique that only had a few dresses; it was like a hole-in-the-wall type of place. I could tell from Anna’s face that she was displeased by my choice of boutique.
“Do you think there’s something good enough for the Alpha Convention in here?” She asked in a low whisper.
“Sometimes smaller places have better stuff,” I assured her.
Not before long, the owner of the boutique came out from the back room and gasped when she saw me.
I smiled broadly at her.
She looked at me as if she had seen a ghost; it’s been a long time since I’ve been here, so I didn’t blame her for being surprised.
“Erin?” She said, rushing over to me.
I could tell that Anna was surprised that she knew me.
“I can’t believe it’s actually you,” she breathed. “I haven’t seen you since you were a teen.”
She wrapped her arms around me and hugged me tightly.
“It’s good to see you again, Gretta,” I said, hugging her back.
Gretta worked for my father for a long time before she opened her own boutique. But she used to style clothing for my parents and me.
“I’m so sorry to hear about your family…” she breathed, looking me over. “Their deaths were such a tragedy. I remember crying when I heard the news. I always wondered where you went after that. I tried to reach you but your number changed and it seemed you moved.”
“I got married,” I told her.
She gasped again.
“Oh, I’m so glad,” she cooed. “You and Gavin were always so great together. I hear he’s very successful now.”
“Actually, it wasn’t Gavin I married… it was someone else,” I told her. She frowned at my words. “His name is Henry and he’s an incredible lawyer.”
“You married a lawyer?” She asked, raising her brows.
I nodded.
“He became an amazing friend and husband to me,” I explained. “But sadly, the relationship ended recently.”
“You got divorced?” She asked, clearly in shock over all the information I’d been giving her.
“I’m afraid so,” I responded. “But Gavin and I have reconciled, and we are working on our relationship currently.”
“I don’t see why you broke up in the first place,” she said shaking her head.
“It’s a long story,” I told her, lowering my gaze.
“Were there children involved?”
“Thankfully, no.”
“OH, that’s a relief,” she said with a sigh. “What are you doing here? What can I help you with?”
“As you know, the Alpha convention is soon, and I need the perfect dress for the occasion. I’m accompanying Gavin to this event, and we all know how important it is for an Alpha. I couldn’t think of a better person to design my dress.”
“For you? Anything,” she said with a wink. “I already know the perfect colors to use for you.”
Gretta was the fastest when it came to making gowns and I knew she’d be able to have it done by tomorrow.
The convention was being held tomorrow night and this dress needed to be perfect. She’s the only one I trusted with this job.
Despite my interaction with Gretta, Anna still seemed uncertain.
“Are you sure she has what it takes to make a dress before tomorrow? A dress that’s good enough?”
“Trust me,” I said confidently.
After Gretta finished taking measurements, she got to work.
We must have spent the entire day in the boutique while she stitched around my body. Anna watched in amazement as the light pink gown came into shape.
It was a gown that had straps that went around the back of my neck, and she had it so the torso portion of the dress pushed my breasts up to make them look bigger. She had the dress expanding around my waist and delicately falling to the ground around my feet like a wedding gown, only in pink.
Around my waist she used a different type of fabric; it was a clear pink with sparkles and pearls impounded throughout it, giving the dress a unique style.
By the time she was finished, I was wearing the most elegant dress I had ever seen. Anna was in complete shock over the glorious details.
“It’s perfect,” I breathed.
Gretta beamed at the compliment.
I was able to get the dress back to the guest room without Gavin noticing it; I wanted it to be a surprise and Anna promised not to say anything.
Gavin was busy with work stuff for most of the night anyways.
By the next morning, I woke up feeling a little odd.
My stomach felt uncertain.
Just as I was about to get dressed for the day, I found myself hunching over the toilet and releasing the contents of my stomach.
