Chapter 134

Erin’s POV

“Miss Erin! Are you okay?” Anna asked, knocking on the outside door.

I was feeling fine, and this came out of nowhere.

Oh goddess, don’t tell me I’m getting sick right before the Alpha Convention.

This couldn’t possibly be happening to me right now.

I held onto my stomach as I vomited again into the toilet; I couldn’t answer her right now.

I stared at my gorgeous gown that hung on the back of the bathroom door and I felt a sense of dread. If I got sick in that dress, I could kiss this convention goodbye.

Gavin would be so upset with me.

This convention meant everything to him, and I couldn’t let him down right now. Not like this.

“Miss Erin?” Anna asked again with another knock. “What’s going on?”

I flushed the toilet and grabbed a towel off the counter; I wiped my mouth just before pulling myself to my feet and opening the door.

Anna stared at me for a short while, examining my face and my every feature just before looking over my body. I realized I had a little vomit on my nightgown, and I instantly felt embarrassed.

“You were throwing up?” She asked, raising her brows.

“I’m not sure what happened,” I admitted. “I was fine one minute and the next I couldn’t stop vomiting.”

“Okay, you should lie down,’ she said, grabbing onto my arm and pulling me out of the bathroom and toward the bed.

“I can’t,” I said, struggling against her weakly. “I have to start getting dressed for tonight. It’s incredibly important and—”

“You aren’t going to be good for anyone if you are sick. Trust me,” she said, motioning for me to get into bed. “I’ll be right back.”

She started to rush toward the door.

“Where are you going?” I called after her.

“I need to get some stuff,” she said in return over her shoulder.

Without another word, she was slamming the door shut behind her. I sighed as I slid into bed; I didn’t have the time to lie in bed like this. I needed to get ready for the convention; it was going to take me at least a few hours to do so.

“It’ll be okay,” Emily assured me softly. I’ve noticed that she’s been quiet until that moment. “We are going to that convention, and we are going to be fine.”

I hoped she was right.

I placed my hands on my stomach; I still felt a little unsettled, but I didn’t think I was going to throw up again.

I felt a sudden warmth that went through my body though and it was almost comforting. I had no idea what that meant, but Emily seemed to have relaxed within me.

Soon, Anna was running back into the room with a platter of tea and a bag of stuff.

“I got some supplies,” she said. “Just some stuff to soothe your stomach.”

I was relieved to see the tea; that would certainly help me.

I sipped the tea without anything added to it and my stomach was starting to feel better already. She shuffled through the bag and pulled something else out.

“I got you some medicine too to help with nausea…”

I felt Emily tensing from inside of me and I knew she didn’t like the idea of taking medicine.

“I think the tea is enough,” I said to Anna with a kind smile. “I’m already feeling better.”

“Are you sure?” She asked. “Don’t you want to take it to be safe?”

“I think I’ll be okay. If I need it later, I’ll take it.”

“Well, I also brought your saltines and ginger ale,” she said, placing the bag on the bed. “Is there anything else you’d like me to get you?”

“I’m all right. I just need to get dressed for tonight,” I told her, placing the tea on the bedside table. “I’ll be fine… I promise.”

She looked relieved to hear that.

“What do you think was wrong?” Anna asked with a timid frown.

“A stomach bug,” I said with a shrug; but even I wasn’t believing those words. “Please, don’t mention this to Gavin. He’ll only worry.”

“I won’t say a thing,” she promised.

As soon as she was gone, I got out of bed and went back into the bathroom.

I needed to take a shower.

I breathed in the steam of the shower and allowed the hot water to soothe my body.

I felt better already and even Emily was starting to feel stronger with each passing moment.

Once I was out of the shower, I wrapped my body in a warm towel that Anna had left for me and stared myself over in the mirror. I hadn’t done my hair and makeup properly in years, but today was the day to do just that.

I started by brushing out the knots in my hair and then I took a blow dryer and dried it, making it fluffy and with extra volume. I took a curling iron next and curled it around my narrow features before putting it up in a high ponytail. I curled the rest of the ponytail and then curled some of the strands I left down the front of my face. I put some hair spray in it to keep it in place.

Once I was done with my hair, I did my makeup. I went with warm colors that not only blended in with the natural coloring of my face and skin but also matched the pink coloring of my dress.

It was finally time to put on my dress and shoes.

I allowed Anna to pick out the perfect shoes while we were shopping.

It took me a few hours to finish dressing altogether, but once I was done, even I was taken away by how beautiful everything came together.

I was just in time too because not before long, Gavin was mindlinking me to meet him downstairs in a couple of minutes.

Taking in a deep breath, I grabbed my bag and made my way down the stairs and into the front foyer. Gavin stared at me with wide eyes; his mouth was hanging open; I could see the admiration on his face.

“Holy shit,” he said nearly under his breath. “You look amazing…”

I couldn’t help but laugh at his shocked face.

“Do I clean up well?” I teased.

He narrowed his eyes to me.

“That’s not one of the dresses I got for you,” he said, raising his brows as he met my eyes.

“Nope… I got one better,” I shrugged.

He laughed and offered me his arm.

I took his arm and allowed him to lead me to his waiting car out front. Beta Seth was already there with the doors open.

The Alpha Convention was held only a half hour away in the next back, but it took what felt like an eternity to get here.

But once we were there, I was in awe of how glorious it looked. Everything looked pristine from the low-hanging lights of the crystal chandelier. The floors were marble, and all the tables were made from glass with white tablecloths.

The food looked amazing and made my mouth nearly water from looking at it. There was music playing lightly in the background from a live orchestra and everyone was dressed like they were preparing for their own weddings.

Men and women dressed in white uniforms walked around with plates of food and others were walking around with platters of champagne offering them to guests.

My father used to talk about the convention when I was younger, but I never imagined it to be this elegant.

I shouldn’t be surprised; these were incredibly important people.

I looked over at Gavin in wonder, but he wasn’t looking at me or the rest of the scenery around him. He was looking in a certain direction and his entire body was tense.

I followed his gaze and saw exactly what he was looking at; or rather who he was looking at.

It was a woman in a black dress; she reminded me of a black swan with how elegant her dress was. She wore a matching black mask, and her shimmering red hair was flowing evenly around her shoulders and down her back.

I looked at Gavin curiously and his next words left me feeling numb.

“It’s her…” he said in a low murmur. “My blackmailer.”
