Chapter 150

Erin’s POV

I often ask myself, if I could go back in time, what’s the one thing I would change?

When I was a teenager, I would have said not kissing Gavin as nearly as much as I wanted to. I wanted him to know just how much I loved him and how badly my heart ached for him when I wasn’t there with him.

Even before I had got my wolf, I knew Gavin was my mate. He has always been the kind of boy you could never forget.

I loved him deeply and I would forever love him until my last breath.

When I broke up with him, it was like my entire world had fallen apart. But my father gave me an ultimatum that I couldn’t ignore.

If I didn’t break up with him, Gavin would never be able to attend that incredible college he’s been wanting to go to. I couldn’t be the reason that Gavin’s dream didn’t happen. I never wanted to stand in his way.

I did the only thing I could at that time; I broke up with him.

That would later be my biggest regret in life.

However, if we hadn’t had these experiences throughout these years, then I wouldn’t be here right now. I certainly wouldn’t have been the woman I am today.

Being a strong and independent woman who was now a Luna.

I looked up at Gavin, my Alpha.

“I’m the happiest I’ve ever been,” I said to him, nuzzling my nose against his neckline. “I love you so much.”

“I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you,” he said in return, kissing the top of my head.

“Okay, you love birds. I hate to interrupt, but the new Luna has to take some photos,” Jill interrupted as he draped her arm through mine.

I pouted, not wanting to part from my mate. Ever since he marked me, Emily couldn’t get enough of him.

I went with Jill and allowed the photographer and the press to take a lot of pictures. Pictures of just me and pictures of me with my new family.

Theo watched me from a distance, and I saw a perplexed and distant look in his eyes. It worried me. I made a mental look to check in on him later.

“Oh, my goddess, Erin,” one of my coworkers said as she approached a couple of others.

I’m so used to their bullying, that their being nice to me just felt incredibly fake.

“You look amazing!”

I only invited them because I wanted everyone to be included, but I was hoping I wouldn’t have to talk to them.

“The ceremony was beautiful!” Another said.

“Ladies, please don’t crowd the Luna. She’s had enough people hassling her for one day,” Jill said, stepping in front of me.

I was thankful that she was there.

My coworkers all pouted with disappointment on their faces and I turned away from them to address some of the other guests.

Once everyone was settled and enjoying themselves, I decided now was a good time to have that talk with Theo.

He was staring at some food questionably and sipping on some red wine when I approached her.

“You look indifferent,” I pointed out right away as I stepped next to him.

He gave me a low laugh and shook his head.

“I was just thinking,” he explained.

“Thinking about what?” I found myself asking him.

He met my eyes, but only for a moment.

“Henry flew right under my radar. How could I let something like that happen?” Theo asked with dismay written all over his face.

“It wasn’t your fault. He used his abilities on you—”

“I should have been smarter than that. What kind of leader lets something like that happen?” He asked, cutting me off.

“You can’t blame yourself, Theo. It will eat you up inside. You did the best you could. Henry had us all fooled.”

“I should have been better than that. Because I wasn’t, I put us all in jeopardy. This could have been prevented if I acted with brains,” Theo sighed. “I guess what I’m saying is, I’m sorry for my part in all of this.”

I placed my hand on his arm, causing him to meet my eyes.

“I promise you, Theo. None of this is your fault,” I assured him. “Henry was good at what he does. I worked closely with him for years and I never suspected a thing. You weren’t the only one he fooled and I’m sure you aren’t the last.”

Theo gave me a fond smile.

“I blame my old age,” Theo said with a low laugh. “Maybe I’m starting to be too old for this job.”

“What are you saying?” I gasped. “You want to quit? The organization needs you, Theo. I need you.”

Theo was like a father to me and the thought of losing him felt unbearable.

“I’ll always be a part of the organization no matter what happens. This place is my life; it’s my family,” he said thoughtfully. “I’ve raised it and watched it grow. But a good leader always knows when to take the backseat and let someone else take the reins for a little while.”

“Someone else?” I asked with wide eyes. “You want to make someone else the new leader?”

When he didn’t answer right away, I spoke again.

“Nobody could be a better leader than you,” I said to him, hoping that I could convince him to not leave.

He was quiet for a moment longer as he processed my word and fought to compose his own.

“I don’t want to give the organization to just anybody,” he finally said. “I want to make it’s taken care of. It needs a leader that it can count on.”

I nodded, agreeing with him.

“I think the best possible leader for this Moonshadow organization, is you Erin.”

My heart nearly jumped out of my chest, and I had to take a step back to collect myself.

I couldn’t have heard him correctly.

“What?” I asked, my voice suddenly sounding far away.

There was a small twinkle in his eyes as he spoke.

“You are the best this organization has, and you care about it just as much as I do. I might have been blind when it came to Henry, but I know I’m not blind when it comes to you. I know I made the right choice, even under Henry’s influence, when I brought you on as a member of the organization. I truly believe that you will do great things.”

I was speechless.

My eyes were beginning to betray me as they welled up with tears.

He wanted me to be the new leader of the Moonshadow organization. Theo was leaving behind some huge shoes to be filled and I wasn’t sure I had what it took.

“Hey, what are we talking about?” Gavin asked, draping an arm around my waist and pulling me close to him.

Theo grinned.

“I just asked Erin to take over the Moonshadow organization. She’s the only one I trust for that job.”

Gavin raised his brows and then looked down at me.

“That’s incredible news,” he said with a fond and loving smile.

“I haven’t accepted yet,” I told them both, still deep in thought.

“Why? This organization is your life. Why wouldn’t you accept it?” Gavin asked, staring between the two of us questionably.

“Because it’s Theo’s organization. I don’t feel right taking it,” I admitted.

Theo sighed as he met my eyes.

“Then, think of it as a favor. I need this organization to be cared for by someone I trust long after I’m gone.”

I stared up at him; he was so serious that it tugged at my heart.

Soon, the music changed, and I recognized this song as the song I chose for Gavin and me to celebrate our life together.

“Erin, Gavin! It’s time for your first dance!” I heard the sounds of Gavins’ mother from her table. I looked up at Gavin who gave his mother a warm smile before reaching his hand out for me to take.

He turned his warm smile to me, making my heart melt on the spot just as the babies started to kick wildly inside of me.

I turned back to Theo who was still waiting for me to answer his question.

I didn’t answer him, but I didn’t need to.

He knew from the look on my face what my answer was and that was enough for him to step away just as I took Gavin’s hand in mine.

I allowed Gavi to pull me away so we could share the first of many dances and finally live our lives happily together.
