Chapter 17
Gavin’s POV
“You broke up with her?!” Seth asked, shocked, as he stood in the entryway of Gavin’s office.
Gavin didn’t even look up from his computer when he responded.
“You saw the news report. I can’t have a Luna who will lie to the kingdom in such a way.”
“But Alpha she’s—”
“I don’t care who she is,” Gavin said with a growl. “I won’t have that kind of trouble. Now leave me. It’s not your say whom I marry.”
Seth straightened his stance, clearing his throat like he was going to say more. But one deadly glare from Gavin silenced him. Gavin was not one to be messed with; not now.
He soon left the office, only to return a few moments later with a worried frown on his face.
“Uh, sir. You have a visitor,” he said.
Gavin glanced up from his computer.
“Who is it?”
“It’s… uh…Henry. That waitress’s husband…”
…
Third Person POV
Back at the restaurant, Susanna was just humiliated by that bitch, Erin. But she’s realizing quickly that she can’t retaliate because Erin has powers. The kind of powers that only those who belong to the Moonshadow or Killer organizations.
She was about to call Gavin to not only tell him off but tell him about his little miss-perfect waitress until she heard a gentle voice from nearby.
“Miss Susanna, may I help you?”
She glanced up to see a beautiful black Bentley pulling up to the curb beside her. The window was rolled down and inside she saw a handsome man, dressed in a dark blue suit, thick-framed glasses, and a kind smile.
Susanna was still on the ground, struggling to keep her stance as the floor was still completely iced over. Her bodyguards were also struggling to get to their feet, crawling to a more stable area. Erin had been long gone by that point.
Susanna recognized the man to be Henry, a very noble lawyer whom her father entrusted to handle a family property dispute and spoke highly of Henry.
Henry has always been kind to Susanna and those he encounters, so she’s had a very good impression of him already.
He quickly got out of the car and went toward her.
“Be careful. The ground is completely iced over,” she warned.
He frowned as he stared at the ground and then he glanced up at the restaurant, furrowing his brows together. It was like he was lost in deep thought about something, but then he quickly recovered and reached his hand out to her to take.
She took it and was able to stand to her feet, making her way over to the dry portion of land near Henry.
“Mr. Henry,” she said once she recovered. “What are you doing here?”
“I just happen to pass by and saw a beautiful young lady here who seemed to need help.”
Henry smiles kindly at Susanna, once more, and hands her a small packet of tissues he kept in his pocket. Susanna realized her makeup was smeared when she shed a few tears during her outburst in the restaurant.
Her face grew warm with embarrassment as she accepted the tissues and worked to fix her face.
“This is so embarrassing…” she said, giving him a sheepish smile.
It wasn’t often that Susanna was nervous around a guy, but there was something about Henry that caused her heart to flutter. It’s been a while since she’s seen Henry and she certainly didn’t remember him ever being this handsome.
But at this moment, the sunlight was hitting his features almost perfectly where it outlined his broad body and danced off his fair complexion. His dark eyes poured into as he removed his glasses; his smile never leaving his face.
“No need to be embarrassed,” he said to her. His deep voice acted as a melody to her ears. “You also don’t need to be so nervous.”
She’s ever only had eyes from Alpha Gavin, but at this moment, she felt captivated by this other man. She started to feel less nervous and less embarrassed and started feeling nothing but relaxed and comfortable.
She continued staring into his eyes, feeling as if she couldn’t look away.
The events of moments ago were soon forgotten the longer she stared into him. The memories of Erin and her powers were gone from her mind. Henry glanced over at the bodyguards who were also in a trance, staring at Henry. Soon, they had forgotten about the events as well.
He looked back at Susanna, giving her a small head nod.
“You should be going now, Miss Susanna. It was nice to see you again. Give my best to your father for me.”
“Yes, Mr. Henry. I will,” Susanna said, her face reddening as she was broken from the trance.
She looked around, confused for a moment as she stood in the empty parking lot. Her bodyguards stood nearby as well, looking around confused.
Henry was there a moment ago, but now he is not. Susanna has no memory of seeing Henry and she has no memories of what happened in the restaurant, nor do her guards.
She glanced at her guards with a frown.
“Why are we here? Take me home this instance!”
…
Erin’s POV
I have made a huge mistake. I shouldn’t have unleashed my powers like that in front of Susanna. She just made me so incredibly mad that I couldn’t control myself.
“But you have to admit, it felt great to use your powers again,” Emily teased.
“It might have felt great, but it was still stupid. I need to be more careful.”
Once I returned to work, I kept getting strange glances from those around me. They all heard and saw the scene that Susanna caused. Now they were thinking I was some kind of home wrecker.
Maybe I was.
I heard the door chime sound through the restaurant, averting my attention from those around me and fixating my gaze on the familiar gentlemen that stood, looking at me.
I gasped as Henry stood before me.
At first, he gave me a cocky grin as he looked me over. I couldn’t believe that he was standing there. That meant the mission went well and he was unharmed.
I ran to him, wrapping my arms around his neck, and pulled myself close to him. He hugged me back, tightening the embrace.
“I’m so glad to see you,” I whispered to him.
“I ran into Susanna outside,” he said, playfulness in his tone. I met his eyes and saw how dark they were; he must have just used his powers. My face reddened. “We had a nice chat. I sent her on her way; she seemed a bit confused about where she was.”
I gave him a smile in return.
He broke the embrace and glanced around at some of the wandering eyes before looking back at me.
“I could erase the memories of everyone in here if you’d like,” he offered.
I shook my head, standing on my toes so I could kiss his cheek gently.
“You being here is enough to undo all the damage Susanna had done,” I told him.
He gave me a kind smile, but it didn’t reach his eyes.
“What is it?” I asked, staring around his uncertain face.
He stepped back from me, reaching into the pocket of his suit, and pulled out a diamond-encrusted ring. The same ring that once sat upon my finger.
My heart fell into my stomach as I met his eyes.
He spoke in a low and almost pained tone, “I got your ring back for you…”
