Chapter 28
Erin’s POV
I stood frozen as I stared at my younger self breaking Gavin’s heart. I didn’t need to relive this to see the damage I had done to him. I already knew.
He has no idea how hard it was for me to come up with this excuse to break up with him. I made myself look like a complete monster in hopes that he would just hate me and move on with his life.
However, I had no idea he was days away from proposing to me. I had no idea that he had gone as far as to buy the most gorgeous ring I had ever seen and was planning on giving it to me right after graduation.
My heart ached.
I watched as young Gavin’s heart shattered before our eyes. His face had fallen, and tears formed in his eyes. I don’t remember the last time I saw Gavin crying; I don’t think he’s ever cried prior to this.
Young Erin’s eyes were filled with tears as well, but she waited to shed real tears until after she walked away from Gavin. Young Gavin had fallen to the ground and began to cry in his hands; he pleaded to be forgiven for whatever it was that he had done.
Little did he know, it wasn’t anything he had done.
This wasn’t his fault.
I glanced over at Gavin who was watching the scene with sad eyes; I knew this was painful for him to watch. I wanted to protect him from this view, but I could only imagine how many times he had come back to this very moment and watched this play out.
He can only see what he knows; he can’t see the moments before I made this decision. He can’t see how this affected me because he doesn’t know any of that information.
I closed my eyes and allowed stray tears to escape from me and fall over my features. By the time I opened them again, we were back in the hotel room.
Gavin was sitting on his bed, staring down at his hands. I was crying and biting onto my lip to keep from sobbing loudly.
I finally found the strength to move my legs and I went to sit with him on the bed.
“I’m sorry,” I managed to say in a broken whisper.
He doesn’t say anything in response; he continues to stare at his hands.
I reached over to grab his hands, holding them into mine and bringing his attention to me.
“I know I hurt you,” I say to him. “I’m sorry for how badly I treated you…”
He looked me over carefully for a moment, like he wanted to say something but refrained from doing so.
Without much thought, I leaned up and kissed him. I didn’t want to talk anymore, I didn’t want to think, I just wanted to feel.
I was allowing my wolf full control and I knew exactly what it was she wanted; it was Gavin. It’s always been, Gavin. I was foolish to think that I could move on from our mate so easily without a second thought. I was foolish to think that I could get rid of him completely without being marked by another.
Gavin’s arms wrapped around my waist and pulled me onto his lap. I deepened the kiss, allowing my tongue to explore his mouth curiously. This time, it was me that bit onto his lip and nibbled on it.
He tasted so good, and he was just so familiar and comfortable.
He pulled my shirt over my head, tossing it to the ground beside us. I played with the seams of his shirt until it was also tossed to the floor, revealing to me his incredible body. Even when we were young, Gavin had always had an incredible body. It was something I wasn’t sure I would ever get used to.
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to get used to it if I’m honest.
He was so amazingly handsome that it made my mouth water and my wolf howl within my mind. He gazed up at me, as I sat on him, with a hunger in his eyes. There was a playfulness on his face as he took in every appearance.
I leaned down and kissed him, hard, and hungrily. I couldn’t get enough of him. My body trembled as I pressed myself against him. His skin felt so soft against mine and his fingertips tracing my spine caused goosebumps to form across my flesh.
He broke his kiss from my lips and began to kiss down my neck and across my shoulders, sending a wave of warmth to spread across my body. I breathed him in, basking in his scent and loving the feeling of his nearness.
He brought my breast into his mouth and tugged at my nipple with his teeth. My nipples grew hard in his mouth as he continued to suck and flick them with his tongue. He would play with one with his fingers while biting the other and then switch them periodically. He did that for a little while longer as I draped my fingers in his thick hair, tugging at it and causing him to moan softly.
He released my nipple from his mouth and brought his kisses up my chest until his lips were pressed against mine again. His tongue explored my mouth curiously.
I felt him playing with the buttons of my pants, wanting to get them off. I knew this was a bad idea; there was a small part of me that kept thinking about Henry and how upset he would be if he knew I was here with Gavin, once again.
But then another part of me didn’t care.
I continued our kiss, allowing him to touch every corner of my body and unbutton my pants. I pushed him so he was lying flat on his bed and kissed down his abs, licking and flicking every ounce of his body.
My heart was racing wildly in my chest.
Oh, goddess, I needed him more than I thought.
I felt Emily itching to be released; begging me to lose control.
A small growl escaped from my throat, and I saw the excitement in his eyes as he wrapped his strong arms around my body, pulling me close to him and kissing along my neckline. His sharp claws dug down my back, leaving marks in their path.
Something I would have to explain to Henry later.
I shuddered at the very thought.
I tugged at his pants, playing with the buttons until they snapped apart. His bulge grew large and excited within his pants.
What was I doing? I shouldn’t be doing this.
“If it was so wrong, then why does it feel so right?” Emily purred.
Just as he was about to release his erection from his boxers, the sound of his phone interrupted us.
We were both frozen and breathless. At first, I didn’t know what that sound was and I was a little startled. But one look at his face, and I saw the annoyance in his eyes as he rummaged through his pant pocket to uncover his phone.
“This better be good,” he said into the phone; he couldn’t hide the annoyance in his tone.
I grabbed my shirt off the floor as he continued his conversation; I had to admit that I was impressed he sounded so put-together this quickly, while I was still fighting to catch my breath.
“What?” He gasped, glancing over at me. “I’ll be there in a few.”
He hangs up the phone and stands to his feet quickly, fixing his pants.
“What is it? What’s going on?” I asked, growing worried.
Without looking at me he said, “Somebody in my pack was murdered.
