Chapter 33

Gavin’s POV

“Alpha, is it really necessary to return to the restaurant? You’ve been doing so well these last few days staying away,” Beta Seth asked as they neared the restaurant.

“I need to speak with her,” was all Gavin managed to say.

He’s hated not being able to speak with Erin these last few days. He’s been so wrapped up in his work that he’s hardly had time to think about anything else.

“What about Miss Susanna? How would she feel about any of this?”

“There isn’t anything between Susanna and me,” Gavin said to his Beta. “I don’t wish to be with Susanna. It’s Erin I want, and I need her to know this.”

Seth knew better than to argue with Gavin, so he remained quiet the rest of the drive. As soon as they pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant, Gavin could smell Erin’s scent and it was glorious. His wolf was nearly ripping from his flesh, trying to get to Erin as quickly as he could.

However, he could feel that Erin was also in distress.

Something was wrong.

They quickly parked the car and Gavin ran through the parking lot and into the restaurant. He got there in time to see a strange man tugging at Erin’s skirt, ripping it. A flash of fury went through Gavin, and he was about to step in and beat the man in front of everybody there.

But then he watched as Erin’s eyes went across the coffee cup that sat on the table and the contents of the cup went all over the man’s lap.

The man stood quickly to his feet, yelling obscene things to Erin who couldn’t keep the grin off her face.

She asked him twice to leave and he refused to do so both times; he continued to order Erin to bring him napkins and kept calling her a bitch.

“I believe she asked you to leave,” Gavin said, standing behind Erin with his eyes pouring into this man.

Erin hadn’t noticed him there and seemed startled to see him standing behind her. He paid her no attention though; his attention was on the creep in front of him.

The man looked shocked and then frightened that he was there. Anyone who encounters Gavin was often fearful of what he may do. That was the perk of having a reputation like Gavin’s.

Gavin’s eyes darkened as he kept his eyes locked on this man’s eyes.

“Apologize for your behavior and then leave,” Gavin spoke in his mind to the man.

Without hesitation, the man turned to face Erin, bowing low, and apologized. Without another word, he scurried out of the restaurant.

He was finally able to fixate his attention on Erin. She stared up at him with wide and startled eyes; traces of confusion outlining her features. It was taking everything he had not to bend down and kiss her right then and there.

He knew she had questions about where he’s been these last few days and it hurt him to know that she was probably worried and upset.

He was pleased when she agreed to speak with him outside and as predicted, she acted out of pain. It was obvious she was trying to keep that pain to herself though. She played it off like she was worried about his well-being, but he knew it was jealousy over what she had seen between him and Susanna.

As they kissed, she leaned into the kiss, breathing him in and basking in everything he had to offer. Her body was pressed against his as his arms wrapped around her, pulling her close to him. Cradling her in his arms felt right; it was comfortable. It was like no time had passed between them.

A few tears had escaped her eyes, of which he used his thumb to wipe away.

“We shouldn’t…” she whispered to him, her words quivering. Her eyes remained closed, and her lips were so close to his.

“We should,” he teased playfully. “We always should.”

He closed the gap between them and kissed her once again.

Susanna’s POV

Susanna sat on the patio outside her large home just on the off-coast of the city. The moon was large in the sky and shining its rays down on the patio furniture, keeping it light for Susanna’s viewing.

She hadn’t heard from Gavin since he sent her home yesterday. He’s been great at taking care of her as she mourned the loss of her friend, but once the tears stopped spilling, he sent her on her way.

She knew something was distracting him and he had a feeling it had to do with that waitress, Erin.

Her phone ran suddenly, and she frowned as she stared at the collar ID.

It was Mr. Henry.

How strange for him to be calling at this hour. Susanna thought to herself.

“This is Susanna,” she said into the phone.

Mr. Henry was requested to speak with her at a coffee shop in a few minutes. She couldn’t help but be worried; it was odd that he wanted to meet with her so last minute. He sounded very serious; maybe even a little hurt.

Out of curiosity, she agreed to this meeting and hung up the phone.

If she wanted to meet with Henry, she would have to leave shortly.

Susanna ordered her guards to get the car ready to take her to the coffee shop; they agreed and went on their way. She sighed as she peered over at the horizon; her home overlooked the glorious ocean.

The moon reflected in the sparkling waters making the view look even more beautiful. She sighed as she stood to her feet and made her way to the front of the house. Just as she got outside, she heard footsteps rushing toward her, making her freeze.

Her bodyguards were quick to jump in front of her, shielding her from whatever creep was lurking in the midst of the night.

But then she saw his face she shooed her guards away; she recognized this man.

“Mr. Hannigan,” she said, surprised to see him stumbling through the streets.

It’s been clear he’s been drinking. He leaned against the railing of her front porch so he wouldn’t fall over.

“I’ve come as soon as I could,” he said in a drunken slur.

Susanna frowned, staring around his face curiously.

“Well, what did you find out?”

“That waitress is a real freak,” he announced, shaking his head at the memory. “I don’t know what is about her. But she isn’t normal.”

“I hired you to spy on her, Mr. Hannigan. Tell me what it is you found out about her,” Susanna ordered, crossing her arms over her chest.

She glanced down and noticed that his pants were incredibly wet; she scowled in disgust.

“What happened to you?” She demanded to know.

“I told you, she’s a freak. She did this to me,” he explained, waving his arms dramatically. “I don’t know how, but she did this.”

“What are you talking about?”

“She has some kind of powers, Miss Susanna! She’s not normal!”

“What?” Susanna gasped as she continued to pour her icy eyes into him. “Are you saying this waitress has some kind of special ability?”
