Chapter 39
Gavin’s POV
This couldn’t have been happening.
Word has already gotten back to the packhouse about this pregnancy. Beta Seth was exceptionally happy about this news.
“I’m glad you finally came to your senses and decided to do something about Miss Susanna,” he said with a proud smile.
“I didn’t do anything with her,” Gavin growled furiously, shocking Seth to his core. “I don’t believe she’s telling the truth.”
“Miss Susanna wouldn’t do something like that,” Seth said, shaking his head. “How could she even fake a pregnancy…?”
“I don’t know, but I’m going to find out,” Gavin said in return, going toward his office.
He no longer wanted to speak about this matter.
He was always careful when having sex with Susanna.
He only slept with her a couple of times; both times he wore a condom and both times he didn’t even finish.
He shook his head at the thought. He didn’t want to think about fathering any kid that Susanna had.
But of course, if it were true, then he would protect that kid at all costs.
But he still didn’t wish to be with Susanna, even if it turned out she really was pregnant.
He needed to make it clear to her that he wasn’t interested in her romantically. Whatever they had between them was over and he no longer wished to pursue her.
Susanna arrived at the packhouse shortly after; she entered his office casually as she did a thousand times in the past.
She was quiet for a moment, unsure of how to approach him and what to say. She knew the word had traveled around like wildfire.
“You must have a lot of questions,” she finally said, lowering her gaze to the ground. “I never meant for the word to get out like this…”
“How does everyone know this news except for me?” He asked, eyeing her carefully.
She met his eyes; but only briefly before she lowered her gaze back down to her lap, tugging at her fingers nervously.
“I wasn’t sure whom to turn to. I wasn’t sure if you still cared for me and I thought I would end up being a single mother…” she breathed. “So, I went to Mr. Henry and asked him to represent me.”
Henry.
Erin’s husband.
The name made Gavin’s blood boil.
“Represent you for what?” Gavin dared to ask.
“Represent me in a custody battle,” she finally spat out, meeting his eyes once again. “I thought you would leave me and take our child. So, I wanted him to help me get full custody. I know you might not love me, Gavin. But I love you dearly and I love our unborn child…”
“How do you even know it’s mine, Susanna?” Gavin asked, keeping his eyes locked on hers.
Her eyes widened and any color that was in her face was long gone; she was as white as a ghost. Staring at him with disbelief.
“You don’t believe the child is yours?” She asked; her voice sounded distant as she continued to stare at him.
She was at a loss for words.
He didn’t want to say it out loud, but no. He didn’t believe this child was his at all.
“Gavin…?” She urged, narrowing her eyes at him. “I haven’t been with anyone else.”
“I want a DNA test,” he finally said, staring into her soul. “I want proof that this baby is mine and if it’s true, then we will figure out what to do going forward.”
She stared at him for a long while; disbelief all over her face.
“You’re serious…?” She asked, tears welling up in her blue eyes.
“We haven’t been together in over a month, Susanna. Even then, we were careful. You can’t blame me for being suspicious.”
“I suppose not…” she breathed.
“DNA test,” he said again with finality in his tone.
He heard her swallowing a lump in her throat before she turned away as well. She said nothing as she walked away.
“Alpha!” A mindlink came through from one of Gavin’s gammas. “We are being invaded by another pack!”
…
Erin’s POV
I shouldn’t have been here; I felt like such a stalker. Though, I guess technically I was a stalker. There was no other way of putting it.
I needed to find out the truth about Susanna and following her was the only way I could do it. I called out of work, claiming that I was sick, just so I could watch her for the day.
I got lucky that she had no idea that I was following her.
She went to the doctor and spent the last couple of hours there.
I wondered what she was doing; this was a small office, and I knew ultrasound photos wouldn’t take this long.
Once she left, I didn’t find myself following her. Instead, I decided to go inside the office and see what I could find out about this appointment.
“Good evening,” the woman at the front desk said. “Do you have an appointment with us this afternoon?”
“No. Actually, I’m here on behalf of Miss Susanna,” I said, giving her a kind smile in return.
Her perfectly shaped brows lifted upward.
“You actually just missed her,” she said, glancing at the door behind me. “She was just here, and she left.”
“Oh yes, I know,” I said with a light laugh. “Actually, I’m her lawyer’s assistant. He’s representing her in a custody battle for when this child is born, and I told him I would collect as much information as I can. Ultrasound, and other test results; that kind of thing.”
The woman frowned staring around my face.
“Oh, I see,” the woman said, uncertainty in her tone. “Well, I can get you what we have, but It’s not much.”
“I don’t understand,” I said, furrowing my brows together. “Wasn’t’ she just here for an ultrasound? I’m sure the office has a record of many of those done over the last couple of days.”
“No, she hasn’t had any ultrasounds done. At least not yet.”
The woman turned away so she can type something on her computer; she was pulling up Susanna’s current records.
“But I do have pregnancy test results and her current procedure documented,” she said, still looking at her computer. “I can get those printed for you.”
“Procedure?” I asked, raising my brows. “What procedure would this be?”
“Her pregnancy procedure,” the woman said. “She’s been trying to get pregnant using Alpha Gavin’s sperm.”
My heart dropped into my stomach at her words. But I tried to keep that shock off my face as she continued.
“She seemed a little desperate if you ask me… but you didn’t hear that from me,” the woman murmured.
She went to grab the papers.
“She was upset when she saw these results. She had another procedure done today; she’s spent a lot of money to not get pregnant,” she shook her head in dismay. “I’m not sure how this will help in her future custody battle.”
“We just need to document everything we can,” I said, taking the documents in my hand and scanning them briefly. “We can never have too few records. I really appreciate your help.”
I couldn’t believe what I was reading.
It was a negative pregnancy test.
Susanna was faking it.
