Chapter 53

Third Person POV

Many years ago, there were 3 organizations that were developed. The first organization created was the Killers. They are wolves and humans that developed abilities once they turned 18 years of age.

Not all that have these abilities were bad, but many grew worse over time. They used their abilities to torment those who caused them to harm or treated them poorly during their youth. They used their abilities for revenge.

However, there were some with abilities that only wanted to use their powers for good. They wanted to protect those without abilities from those with abilities who wish them harm.

That was when the Moonshadow organization came to be.

A secret organization sought to claim world peace and protect the world from all things evil. The Moonshadow knows all and sees all; to be a member, you have to continuously be good.

You won’t find them; they will find you.

Once they find you and make you an offer, you can choose to deny their request or join them.

Then there is the third organization, the Slayers.

The Slayers are made up of vampires; they feed off those with abilities to strengthen their own powers. They are a danger to both Moonshadow and Killers.

Magnus, the leader of the Slayers, was said to have been defeated years ago during the battle between Moonshadow and the Slayers.

However, Magnus wasn’t going to be defeated that easily.

The Slayers lived on the down low for a long time, waiting and plotting. Watching the werewolf and human worlds and finding out who the strongest of them all is.

Once they find the strongest, they can defeat them and then they can truly dominate.

It didn’t take long to figure out who the strongest one was.

The most powerful of them all happened to be a small-town waitress in the middle of nowhere.

She seems to keep to herself, and she isn’t a part of the Moonshadow organization; however, her husband is.

He isn’t as strong as she is though.

Magnus recognized her as the one who helped defeat him and the rest of the Slayers all those years ago. But it seems now that she has retired from that organization.

But why?

“Once we get rid of her…” Magnus said to one of his followers. “Taking out the rest of the organization will be easy.”

“How do you expect to take her out when she nearly took us all out single-handedly?” His follower asked, nervousness clear in his tone.

They’d been watching this waitress for a long while and Magnus was almost sure he could take her out easily. But he needed to be smart about it. She might seem to be a retired, unhappy waitress, but it could be a front.

“We are going to use her own kind against her,” Magnus answered, sounding almost bored. “She will never expect that vampires are the ones pulling the strings.”

“She’s smart though, Magnus. She might see through us.”

“She might be smart, but from the looks of things, she is out of practice. She isn’t the same one who defeated us all those years ago. She let her guard down, thinking we weren’t returning. But little does she know that we are returning bigger and stronger than ever.”

“Stronger?” His follower asked with a self-loathing laugh. “We haven’t fed off those with abilities in a long time. We are weak in comparison.”

“Maybe you haven’t fed in a long time. But I have my own supply. Once I defeat that waitress, there will be an endless supply for everybody.”

“And you expect to defeat her by using her own kind against her?”

“Exactly. I already have a vessel I have sent to collect her. Once we have her in our possession, we will be undefeatable once again.”

Magnus let out a laugh that echoed through his layer, causing a chill down his follower’s spine.

“You truly are a genius,” his follower breathed. “I just hope it’s enough.”

Erin’s POV

I watched the live broadcast the next morning at work before the restaurant opened. As usual, my coworkers were playing the television loudly. They were fangirling over how handsome Gavin Pierce was.

They couldn’t get enough of him.

Despite the rumors that spread across the kingdom that Gavin was the one who started the fire, my coworkers didn’t seem to care or fear him as much as some others.

In fact, it seemed they liked him that much more.

“He’s so dangerous,” one of the breathed. “it’s so hot.”

“He’s incredibly handsome. I would totally let him set me on fire,” the other chuckled.

I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at them; they were acting stupid, but I wasn’t going to say that to them.

I glanced up at the television and saw Gavin standing at the podium; the press was busy asking him questions that he appeared to be ignoring. Instead, he was staring straight at the camera where I was able to hold his eyes.

It was like he was staring directly at me. My entire heart flipped in my chest.

I tried to keep the worried expression off my face, but I knew I was failing miserably.

“I wanted to address some of the concerns my pack and others might have,” Gavin began to speak into the microphone. “The fire at the hospital was an unfortunate accident. I have witnesses that can state that I was in my packhouse at the time the fire started. We aren’t sure how the fire started but we have reason to believe that it was caused by someone with abilities. Your concerns are valid, and I understand where you come from. I understand why you are worried but I assure you that we are doing everything we can to find the person in charge. We aren’t going to rest until that person is behind bars and justice is served.”

The crowd was silent as they processed what he was saying.

“With that being said I am personally going to make sure each victim and their family members are compensated for physical and emotional damages. We will be having a ceremony for those who didn’t make it and their families will also be given compensation. I know that doesn’t make things better, but I’m hoping that it’ll be enough to get you back on your feet. I have phycologists on standby to help with mental needs as well for anyone who might need it. I will be working day and night to rebuild the hospital.”

He paused again as the murmurs.

“If you have any questions, I would be happy to address them in private. But I ask for your continued support and respect during these difficult times. Whether you blame me for this unfortunate incident or not, I ask that you continue to support and respect me as your Alpha.”

At that point, I turned away from the television. I hoped that was enough to settle some of the nerves for his pack.

Just as I finished cleaning my station, I heard the door chime.

I stared up at a tall and broad man that portrayed himself so delicately and with such importance.

He scanned the restaurant until his dark eyes fell upon me and a smirk appeared on his lips. He was looking at me like he knew me, and it gave me an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach.

“Can I get a table?”
