Chapter 65
Erin’s POV
“His Luna?” I whispered again, staring at the paper in disbelief.
“He doesn’t have a Luna,” Emily said with wonder. “Could he be talking about Susanna?”
The thought made me feel ill on the inside. I wanted to pretend I didn’t see this, but I took a picture of it anyways. Everything I found going forward was evidence and I needed to document literally everything.
I placed the invitation under a few others documents before departing from the office.
Thankfully, nobody saw me enter the office and nobody saw me leave. The halls were still vacant, but I could hear the light chatter of Gavin on the floor below and Beta Seth approaching the stairway.
It wouldn’t be long before he found me. I went straight to my room with my backpack and grabbed my old laptop.
I hadn’t opened this thing in a long time. As I propped it up on the desk across the room, I saw that it was dead.
I sighed, grabbing a charger and plugging it into the wall.
Once the laptop has a little more power, I’ll be able to go into it and upload the photos.
There was a knock on my door, making me stand to my feet quickly. I kicked my backpack under the desk and went to open the door.
I wasn’t surprised that it was Beta Seth.
He had grown on me the last couple of days, so I wasn’t displeased to see him.
“Glad to see you’ve returned,” Seth said, raising his eyebrows in my direction. He folded his arms across his chest as he took in my face. “You got me in a load of trouble.”
“That wasn’t my intention. I’m sorry for any trouble I caused.”
“Sneaking out the window was a bad look,” Seth said, shaking his head with dismay written all over his face. “But I’m glad that you’re okay.”
I was honestly surprised by his words; was he worried about me?
“You are?”
“Yes,” he said, turning away from me. “But don’t do that shit again. It made me look bad and I can’t have that.”
“I promise I won’t,” I lied again.
I hated lying to him, but I had to keep my identity sealed. I couldn’t let them be suspicious of me.
“Seth?” I called after him, making him pause at the door. “Did you find any new information on the woman of fire?”
“The woman in the red cloak,” Seth corrected with an eye roll. “And not much. It seems a lot of victims noticed her though. She emerged from the fire, and it didn’t touch her at all.” K
“I see…” I say thoughtfully. “Well, if you find out anything more, can you let me know?”
There was amusement on his face.
“Just let Gavin do his job, okay?” He said, turning away from me once again.
He left the room without another word.
…
Gavin’s POV
“The security cameras have all been destroyed,” the security man from the hospital said. He was the same security man from the hospital that burned down. He was working as part of the security team at a new hospital.
Gavin stood in the security room with a deepening frown on his face.
“There’s nothing you can do to recover any footage?” Gavin asked, feeling a world of impatience.
“I might be able to recover some if you give me some time and space to do that,” the security man said with a shrug.
“That’s perfect. Then, report it to me as soon as you can.”
“Yes, Alpha.”
Gavin left the hospital without another word. He’s been away from the packhouse for a few hours, and he couldn’t help but think about Erin and how she’s been doing since she returned. He wanted to find out what she was talking to Henry about, but he didn’t want to come off as jealous or needy.
He was anything but either of those things and he wouldn’t portray himself as such.
Gavin shifted into his wolf form and began racing through the busy streets until he was in the nicely enclosed forest.
“Did you really think you could get rid of me that easily?” A familiar voice said from a distance.
Gavin turned his head in time to see Bane walking toward him. He was also in his wolf form, and he was looking furious.
“What are you doing back here?” Gavin hissed, trying not to get the best of him.
“I told you; I want what you have. I want the girl.”
“You aren’t going to get her,” Gavin said, gritting his teeth as he glared at Bane’s dark wolf.
“She’s incredibly powerful. You wouldn’t even know what to do with her,” Bane teased, a sharp laugh echoing through the night.
“Like you do?” Gavin said in return. “You are delusional if you think she’d ever go with you.”
“I wasn’t planning on asking her,” Bane said, his tone darkening, giving Gavin an intense chill down his spine.
Soon, Bane was lunging at Gavin.
Gavin was too quick for Bane though and managed to dodge the attack; there was a dark aura swirling around Bane. It was too dark to be a natural wolf’s aura.
There was something different about Bane that Gavin was just noticing, and it wasn’t just his dark aura. It was everything; his fur was the color of midnight, and maybe it’s always been dark, but not this dark.
His eyes were also black with no speckle of any colors; typically, a wolf’s eye wasn’t all black.
It made Gavin feel uneasy.
The two of them continued to fight and wrestle in the forest; Bane was out for blood and Gavin only attempted to defend himself.
For a moment, Bane had Gavin pinned to the ground and was growling in his face, but with ease, Gavin managed to get out from under him and pin Bane in return.
They were both breathing heavily, blood spilling to the ground. Bane swiped at Gavin, only missing by a hair. Gavin struck Bane with his claws, getting banes fur stuck in his nails and shedding more of Bane’s blood.
This only seemed to make Bane angrier; his aura was darkening even more if that was possible.
“You are going to regret this,” Bane hissed, lunging at Gavin once again.
“It doesn’t have to be like that,” Gavin said in return, watching as he grew winded. “We could settle this like men.”
Bane only laughed.
“You really think it’s that simple? Nothing is that simple anymore. I’m taking the girl whether you allow it or not. I’ve been given orders and I will full my duties.”
Gavin frowned, unsure of what he meant.
“Orders?” Gavin asked; before he could ask any more questions, Bane was tackling him to the ground, pinning him once again. Only this time, Gavin let him. “Ordre from who?” Gavin asked, trying to maintain his breath.
“Are you really that stupid that you don’t know?” Bane laughed.
It was then that the darkness in his eyes began to transform and now there was a dark tint of gold lingering around his pupils.
The gold represented a vampire, but Bane wasn’t a vampire so how did he have gold In his eyes?
Then, realization dawned on Gavin the longer he looked into Bane’s strangely colored glare.
“Oh, goddess,” Gavin spoke out loud as he managed to get free from Bane’s weak grasp. This wasn’t Bane. Or maybe he was, and this form was being taken over… controlled.
A smile appeared on Bane’s wolf lips.
Then, Gavin placed the final puzzle piece.
“Your being controlled by a Slayer.”
