Chapter 75
Susanna’s POV
“Please get out of my head,” Susanna cried, curling up on the hospital bed. Her entire body was trembling; the woman, the leader of the Slayers, was placing thoughts in her mind. Telling her she needed to use her powers for bad; hurt people she didn’t want to hurt.
She wanted Susanna to get rid of both Gavin and Erin.
“I’m begging you,” Susanna cried again, placing her hands on her ears, and trying to keep her body steady. “Just leave me alone.”
Up until that point, they gave Susanna some free range. But now the Slayers were done playing games and they intended to use Susanna as a full vessel.
“I’m not leaving you alone until you either complete the mission or die trying,” the woman hissed.
She didn’t know the woman’s name, or what she looked like. But the woman was channeling herself into Susanna, giving the powers she never thought would be possible.
“What do you need me to do?” Susanna asked as tears escaped from her closed eyes.
“We are getting you out of this hospital bed and you are going to take care of the Erin problem. Just like I asked,” the woman growled.
That was the last thing Susanna wanted to do; she might not have liked Erin, but she didn’t want her dead. She didn’t want any of the ones she hurt dead, but it didn’t look like she had a choice.
Either she took care of Erin, or the Slayers were going to take care of her.
“I don’t know if I can leave the hospital without someone signing a release form,” Susanna said between tears, wiping her face with the back of her sleeve.
“Trust me… they’ll sign the form. Just leave it to me. Get dressed and go to the front desk.”
Susanna did just as she said, she got dressed and pulled her long hair into a ponytail. Just before she left the room, the woman’s voice stopped her in her tracks.
“Before you leave, I need you to take your red cloak and shove it into your mattress. For safe keeping.”
“That doesn’t seem safe,” Susanna pointed out. “What if someone finds it?”
The woman was quiet for a moment.
“Are you going against me again, Miss Susanna?” The annoyance in the woman’s voice was evident.
Susanna shook her head quickly.
“No, mam,” Susanna said quickly as she grabbed her cloak out of her belongings and went back to her bed to shove it into the mattress.
Susanna wouldn’t dare go against this woman; she has seen and witnessed what she was capable of doing and the thought of her doing any of those things to Susanna, brought a world of fear to her.
Once the cloak was inside the mattress, Susanna left the room and went to the front desk. She could feel the Slayer still hooked to her brain, holding on for dear life.
“Miss Susanna?” The woman said, raising her brows. “You shouldn’t be out of bed. You should be resting.”
“I need to leave,” Susanna said, keeping her eyes locked on the nurse.
The nurse looked surprised by this but then she shook her head.
“I’m afraid you can’t just—” her voice trailed off as she continued to stare into Susanna’s darkened gaze.
Susanna was no longer in control; she had given her mind, body, and soul over to the slayers. They were the ones in charge now.
“I’ll sign the release form right away,” the nurse said as she shuffled through her papers. She uncovered a release form and filled it out, signing it on the bottom before turning it to Susanna to review and sign.
…
Gavin’s POV
Gavin stood frozen in Susanna’s hospital bed as he stared down at the cloak that remained in his hands. It belonged to Susanna unless it was planted here. But the likelihood of that happening was slim.
Susanna was the woman in the red cloak.
But wouldn’t Gavin have known if she had abilities? He was usually good at telling normal from specials.
He supposed Susanna was always special in her own way.
She somehow got released from the hospital, which meant she could quite literally be anywhere.
All those people had died, including Susanna’s best friend. It was hard to believe that Susanna was responsible for it all.
Gavin’s heart was thudding violently against his chest the more he thought about it; wherever Susanna was, he had a feeling she was most likely searching for Erin.
He needed to warn Erin that she was probably in grave danger; much more so than he could have ever imagined.
He pulled out his phone and began calling Erin right away. However, it went straight to voicemail.
He tried again, but it did the same thing.
“God damnit, Erin,” he muttered. “Where the hell are you?”
This time, instead of calling Erin for the third time, he decided to call Henry.
“Never thought I’d live to see the day when Gavin Pierce is calling,” Henry said mockingly into the phone. “What exactly do you want? Oh wait, let me guess. You want me to convince Erin to live with you again?”
“No,” Gavin said firmly; his blood was already boiling. “I’m calling to warn you that Erin might be in danger.”
There was silence for a moment as Henry processed that.
“What are you talking about?”
“It’s Susanna… she’s the woman in the red cloak. she’s the one who burned down the hospital and killed all those people. She escaped from the hospital last night and now I have reason to believe she might be going after Erin.”
…
Erin’s POV
I waited in the office for a short while before I had the feeling that Gavin had left. I didn’t bother going through his things to find out more information; I think I had everything that I needed. Now I just hoped that Seth wasn’t anywhere in the packhouse.
The last thing I wanted was to have any awkward encounters with Gavin’s Beta.
I brushed the thought out of my head and went for the door.
I managed to get outside undetected; I snuck through the window in the halls and scurried across the packhouse grounds until I reached the gates.
I looked back at the packhouse feeling a sense of emptiness.
I didn’t like being away from Gavin any more than he did, but it was something that I had to do. I needed to complete my mission and I couldn’t be distracted by having Gavin as my mate. I could never truly be truthful to him and that wasn’t fair.
He deserved somebody that could be 100 percent real and honest with him.
“Don’t walk any further,” a voice said from behind me.
It was a familiar voice and it caused me to freeze right away. I took a steady breath and turned my body to face the owner of the voice.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t let you get away. I’m going to end you once and for all,” she said through her teeth.
Her jaw tightened and her icy blue eyes poured into me, sending a chill down my spine that I didn’t make obvious.
She held out her hands and I saw a flash of flames crossing her fingertips, I gasped as I stared at the flames that were now forming into a ball. I couldn’t believe my eyes.
I finally found my voice enough to speak her name out loud, “Susanna…”
