Chapter 80

Erin’s POV

“You’re a vampire,” I said, staring at the man before me. It wasn’t a question, but he answered it anyways.

“It looks that way,” he sneered, taking a step toward me. “And you must be Erin; the pesty werewolf who can’t seem to let things go.”

“How do you know who I am?” I asked, furrowing my brows together.

“Oh, trust me… we’ve all heard who you are,” he laughed. “You are all the organization talks about.”

“You mean the Slayers?” I asked. “I thought this was where their hideout is. Where is everybody?”

He laughed again, only his laugh was dark and chilling.

“I can’t believe you fell for that. Did you really think it was going to be that easy?”

“What?” I asked; I didn’t like where this was going and suddenly, I started to feel vulnerable.

“Bane… you really think we’d let you meddle in his mind and have him reveal our secrets? Not even your Alpha’s abilities can do that.”

My heart fell into my stomach.

Was he saying what I think he was saying?

“Are you saying that Bane is still under the control of the Slayers?” I asked.

“That’s exactly what I am saying,” he said in return, sounding bored. “He’s not the only one,” he added.

I was assuming he was talking about Susanna, but I didn’t ask. Gavin was right about locking her away; It was a good idea.

“What do you guys want? What are you after?”

“We want an endless supply of blood from those with abilities. You make that quite difficult… both you and your little boyfriend do. So, we need you out of the way to get what we want.”

“We defeated you once, we can defeat you again,” I said, keeping my eyes locked on his.

“I don’t think you know the kind of power you are dealing with, young wolf,” the vampire hissed. “You are much weaker in comparison to our leader. You have no idea what you are up against.”

“Who is your leader? What is her name?” I demanded to know.

He laughed again, shaking his head.

“As if I would give you that information,” he sneered. “But trust me when I say, you are fucked.”

“I’m not afraid of her and I’m certainly not afraid of you,” I growled, clenching my fists together.

I was ready to fight him; I no longer wished to speak.

“You should be…” he said. “But I don’t wish to fight you right now. Our time will come when we are ready for a battle. But until then, I was sent as a warning. Stop looking for us. You will never find us.”

He began to turn away and walk in the opposite direction, but I wasn’t going to let that happen. I felt my wolf nearly losing control and this time, I was going to let her.

I shifted into my wolf, growling into the night sky, and allowed my growls to echo through the forest grounds. He didn’t seem phased though as he continued walking away; this only made me more infuriated.

I ran toward him, lunging through the air and I was inches from biting into his neck and tearing him apart limb from limb.

With one quick motion, he swung around and that’s when I noticed the silver dagger that he held firmly in his grip. Before I could grasp what was happening, he was plunging danger deep into my chest and every fiber of my being was screaming in agony.

Silver was highly fatal to wolves, and we could die in seconds. I gasped as the pain was too much for me to handle and my wolf could no longer keep up with her form.

I shifted back into my human form and fell to the ground with the dagger still sitting out of my chest. With another quick motion, he removed the dagger, allowing blood to seep through my flesh and soak into the ground around me.

I shivered as I felt cold; I could feel the life draining from me and I had never felt this weak before. My vision was growing hazy, but he stood over me and knelt so only I could hear his words.

“Don’t worry, your boyfriend will save you soon enough. Then, I’ll come back and finish the job.”

With that being said, he turned away and disappeared through the forest.

Gavin’s POV

Her fingers traced the bareness of Gavin’s back as he sat up in bed. He gazed down at the woman that lay naked beside him; he loathed her more than anything. The thought of her made his skin crawl, but he would do anything to protect those he loved, even if it meant bedding with his enemy.

Her fiery hair fell over her face and her breasts were large, revealing themselves to him. They had sex twice already and he was no longer in the mood for another round. She looked exhausted anyways, so he figured he could use that as an excuse to leave.

But that didn’t work out the way he had hoped.

“Are you leaving already?” She asked, grabbing onto his arm before he could fully slide out of bed. Her long slender fingers wrapped around his large biceps and her long lashes were batting in his direction.

“I’m afraid I have business elsewhere,” Gavin explained. “Other meetings to attend.”

He referred to whatever this was a meeting; This type of meeting happened once a month and he couldn’t get out of it even if he tried.

“Just one more?” She asked with a puffy pout. “Please?”

“The deal we had never mentioned multiple rounds.”

“I didn’t hear you complaining a moment ago,” she muttered. “You aren’t so clever you know…” she said, narrowing her eyes at him.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, I know where you are hiding your family…” she seethed. “Do you really think I’m that stupid? Did you think I don’t have eyes and ears all over this world?”

His heart fell into his stomach.

“I’m not the same girl you once knew, Gavin. I’m much smarter now and I can track down anyone. You might think they are safe… but believe me, they are in the exact location that I need them to be in. I’m in charge, Gavin. Me. I have the upper hand. So, you might as well give me what I want before I tell my men to kill them.

He wasn’t able to get out of this one; the life of his parents was counting on it.

She kissed his chest and wrapped her legs around his waist, propping herself up on him. The sex was quick, much quicker than the last round. She seemed to have gotten off easier and she didn’t seem to mind that Gavin didn’t climax this time around.

Once she finished, she laid back in the bed beside him, gasping for air.

“That was so nice,” she breathed, reaching over to touch his hand. “I want us to do this more often. Maybe even every night. We should be living together by now. It’s been months since we reconciled and started having this incredible sex. I want us to be together.”

“You know it can’t happen,” he said, trying to remain unbothered but her threat to his parents was still fresh in his mind.

He slid out of bed and started to put on his clothes.

“I don’t see why not. You care about those you love, so you’ll do what I say…” she said, narrowing her eyes at him and pressing her lips in a thin line. “I don’t ask for much… I want a commitment out of you.”

“I want my family to be untouched. Until you can guarantee their safety, our relationship starts and ends here.”

“That’s not how this works,” she said, folding her arms across her chest and peering up at him with her big green eyes. “As I just said, I’m the one in charge. I call the shots.”

Gavin went to say something more, but a jab of pain in his chest made him recoil backward. It was an excruciating pain he had never felt before. It happened so quickly and so randomly; he couldn’t comprehend what was going on.

“Gavin?” She said, rushing out of bed and toward him. “Are you okay? What happened?”

He wasn’t sure what happened; at least not until his wolf spoke and explained it to him.

“It’s our mate!” His wolf growled with desperation. “She’s been hurt!”
