Chapter 81

Henry’s POV

The meeting with Henry’s recent client seemed to be going on forever.

She was a middle-aged woman, human, with fair skin and curly blonde hair. She sat across the table with tear-filled eyes, wiping them with a white handkerchief.

They’ve been going back and forth over the recent settlement she received from her soon-to-be ex-husband, but it doesn’t seem to be enough for her.

It was obvious to both Henry and the judge that she had only married this man for his fortune and now that she was getting divorced, she was trying to milk every penny out of him. He had agreed to pay a certain settlement, something Henry had agreed upon with him directly, but it seems his client is reluctant to take the money knowing that there is a chance that she could get more.

“Ms. Conrad—”

“Judy,” she clarified. “I would prefer if you’d call me Judy.”

She didn’t want to be called by her maiden name or her married name.

“Judy,” Henry corrected. “This is a large sum of money that he is offering you. You can take his offer and leave it at that, or it’ll end up going to trial and you will be spending a fortune on that.”

“If we win then it’s a small price to pay,” Judy said in return. “I don’t think you understand how rich my husband is, Mr. Henry.”

“I’m well aware of his fortune. However, getting a dime from him will be difficult considering he is an incredibly powerful man with connections.”

“I came to you because you are the best lawyer in the world,” Judy said, narrowing her cold blue eyes at him. “Otherwise, I wouldn’t be speaking with a big bad wolf.” She said that teasingly, but it made Henry sigh and shake his head as he stared down at his notes.

This was why he always says that you should sign a prenup before marriage; to avoid things like this.

Her husband was stupid to not do so.

“Look, Mr. Henry. I understand your concerns. I could lose everything in this trial. But I could also gain everything. The amount of abuse that went on in that marriage, I deserve to be paid accordingly. I don’t wish to take his hush money… I want his fortune and I want to ruin him.”

“The problem is you don’t have liable proof that any abuse went on, Judy,” Henry tried to reason with her for the hundredth time. “Without documentation and proof to show the judge…winning this case is slim to nothing.”

Judy was quiet for a moment as she leaned across the table, keeping her eyes locked on his.

“I have my word,” she told him firmly.

“It’s your word against his.”

“Then I guess his chances are equal to mine,” she said, raising her brows.

She had a point, and he was a very good lawyer, the best in the world. He couldn’t deny his client her wishes so he just sighed and closed the folder that held her husband’s offer.

“Okay, Judy,” he said, reaching out to her to shake her hand. “Then we will bring this to the court.”

All Henry wanted to do was return home to his wife. Well, his sort of wife. It’s not like they were actually married and there was a large part of him that didn’t think she actually loved him. But it would be better than spending another minute in his law office speaking to an impossible client.

He had a lot of work cut out for him; he needed to figure out how to prove to the judge that Judy Conrad was abused in her marriage and was offered money to keep quiet about it. It was going to be impossible without any actual evidence to back up her claims.

He shook his head at the thought; his stomach growled violently.

Henry hoped that Erin would be making dinner tonight. He was too exhausted to slave over a stove. He took out his phone and sent her a quick message, requesting that she either cook something or order something tonight.

Once he pressed send, he got into his car. He threw his belongings on his passenger side before shifting the car into drive and peeling away from the large brick building that sat over the city.

He had got to work early that morning, before sunrise, and was leaving after sunset.

As soon as Henry got back to the house, he felt something was off.

He glanced at his phone with a frown and saw that Erin hadn’t opened his message. His brows knitted together as worry and curiosity began to surface. He got out of his car and went straight into his house, only to find it completely empty.

“Erin?” He said out loud, a deepened frown decorating his lips as he searched their small and simple home.

She wasn’t there at all.

Where could she have gone?

She hasn’t returned to work yet, so he knew she wasn’t there.

He couldn’t help but be worried about her whereabouts.

He heard the burner phone on the living room table ring and his heart fell into his stomach. The only reason why the burner phone would be ringing is if Theo needed to get a hold of him.

This phone was untraceable; a new addition to the Moonshadow organization and Henry was lucky enough to be the tester of this phone.

So far, it’s been working great and it’s completely untraceable to everyone and anyone.

“Hello?” He said into the phone with a racing heart.

“We have a problem,” Theo said on the other end of the line. “Erin’s heart monitor was going crazy, so I went to track her and see her whereabouts…”

“Okay?” Henry asked; his heart weighed heavily in his chest.

“She went to the woods… I think she’s trying to find the Slayer hideout… and I think they found her first. She’s in trouble.”

Gavin’s POV

Gavin was holding onto a deep secret that he couldn’t share with anybody. It would destroy Erin if she knew the truth.

As soon as he felt that Erin was in trouble, he was already getting dressed.

The woman he bedded with remained in bed asleep. She had fallen asleep after their many rounds of sex. He shook his head at the thought as he zipped his pants and left the hotel room.

Erin was in trouble and his wolf knew exactly where to find her.

They went straight into the forest and searched most of the perimeters until they came across a figure in the distance.

It was Erin.

His heart was racing in his chest as he went toward her.

He could instantly smell her blood and he knew that wasn’t a good sign. Once he got closer, he realized her clothes and the ground around her was covered in her blood and her body was draining quickly.

There was a large wound on her chest that looked to be from a dagger of some sort.

He could smell the silver essence from the dagger.

He knelt beside her, touching her unconscious face, hoping that she would wake up, but she didn’t. She was hardly breathing, and her pulse was incredibly faint, but she was still alive.

He lifted her into his arms and held his hands above her chest; closing his eyes, he took a deep breath, channeling all his powers to his fingertips.

The palm of his hands warmed, and he allowed the warmth to circulate through Erin’s body. Her heart rate started to strengthen while his heart rate weakened; the wound on her chest began to close, while a wound on his chest formed and grew. The pain she felt subsided while his intensified.

Not before long, her eyes were fluttering open, while his eyes were being shut.
