Chapter 97

Erin’s POV

I couldn’t stop staring at her; she was absolutely stunning. She looked much older, but she was so beautiful and well-kept.

Most importantly, she had her arms wrapped around Gavin’s like they were an item. A knot formed in my stomach as soon as I saw the two of them together.

I had never seen her in any of our packs before and I didn’t have any research on her from the organization. But as they got closer, I realized why that was.

She wasn’t a she-wolf at all.

She was a human.

I must have looked as stunned as I felt because Gavin’s eyes darkened when he saw me and then a smirk appeared on his lips like he was testing me or something. I felt a wave of fury washing over me.

What kind of sick game was he trying to play?

I shook the thought out of my head and straightened my stance. I knew Kelsey was watching with curious and worried eyes, but I didn’t say anything to her. I kept a fake smile on my face as I went to greet them.

“A table for two?” I asked.

“Yes, that would be lovely,” the woman said in such a kind tone, I had to stifle an eye roll.

I grabbed a couple of menus and walked through the dining room of the restaurant until I came across an empty booth. They both took their seats; Gavin’s eyes never left my face and I tried hard not to look at him in return.

“Can I start you off with something to drink?”

“Do you have wine here? I would love a chardonnay,” the woman said with a faint smile as she glanced up at me.

“Yes, of course,” I said with a head nod.

This time, I managed to look at Gavin.

“And for you, sir?”

“Beer would be fine…” he said in return. When I went to ask him what kind of beer, he spoke again, silencing me. “You know the kind I like, Erin.”

My mouth instantly shut and now the woman was looking between the two of us curiously.

“I wasn’t aware you knew each other,” the woman said with raising brows. “How exactly do you know each other?”

“We go way back,” Gavin answered as vaguely as possible, but our eyes were locked.

I swallowed the lump that had formed in my throat and tried to force a smile on my face again.

“I’ll be back with your drinks,” I said to them, scurrying away and toward Kelsey who was watching me with curiosity.

“Who is that with Gavin?” Kelsey asked as I began pouring their drinks.

“I’m not sure…” I admitted with a frown. “Maybe the woman he’s been seeing.” I shrugged it off like it was no big deal and that I wasn’t bothered. But I knew it could be seen on my face.

“But she’s human,” Kelsey said, scrunching her nose. “I didn’t think Alpha Gavin dated humans.”

“You’d be surprised what he would do,” I said, grabbing the glasses and walking toward Gavin’s table.

I was dreading waiting on them, and I almost thought about asking one of my coworkers if they would mind taking their orders. But that would mean Gavin was winning and I wasn’t going to let that happen.

“Are you still deciding what you’d like to eat?” I asked, trying to maintain my professionalism.

“I think I’m just going to get the house salad. Hold the dressing,” the woman said, batting her long and gorgeous lashes in my direction.

I nodded and glanced at Gavin who was giving me his normal playful and incredibly sexy smirk. My heart did a flip in my chest as I stared into his amazing eyes.

“I’ll have the steak,” he said without even looking at the menu. “But you already knew that.”

It was true that I did; he gets the same thing every time he comes here.

The woman was staring between the two of us curiously and then she gave us an awkward and nervous laugh.

“I feel like I’m interrupting something,” she said. “Am I?”

“No,” we both said at the same time. “I’ll go put your orders in.”

As I walked to the kitchen to put the orders in, I heard some whispering by some of the kitchen staff. They had seen Gavin Pierce walking into the restaurant with a gorgeous woman on his arm and they were astonished by her beauty.

But they weren’t surprised that Gavin could pull such a woman.

I tried my best to not roll my eyes, but I couldn’t help myself.

“I thought that Judy was married?” One of the kitchen staff asked. “Are she and Mr. Conrad splitting up?”

“Who knows…there’s always some sort of drama with that family.”

Mr. Conrad?

From the Conrad estates?

One of the richest humans known to mankind?

That woman Gavin was with was Judy Conrad?

I peered out of the kitchen and saw how engrossed they were in their conversation. She was giggling at whatever he was saying, and he was staring at her with a grin on his face.

I felt sickened watching them.

Soon, Gavin and Judy’s food was ready, and I brought them their dishes. They both thanked me; this time, Gavin didn’t look at me.

He started to eat his food while Judy seemed to be droning on about something. She was talking about getting to know his sister better while she was staying at the packhouse and she was also thanking him for his kindness and hospitality.

I bit onto my bottom lip, chewing on it vigorously. I wanted to pull him aside and say something, but something inside of me was telling me not to.

“Gavin! There you are! I was looking all over for you!”

I heard a familiar female voice coming from the main entrance.

I staggered backward when I saw Jill stalking toward her older brother. Gavin looked incredibly annoyed by her presence and fought hard to not look at her.

“What do you want, Jill,” Gavin said, shaking his head.

“I wanted to talk to you in private about your little arrangement,” she scoffed, folding her arms across her chest.

“Arrangement?”

“Yes. I saw the documents on your desk, Gavin. I’m not stupid…”

“What were you doing n my office?” Gavin asked, finally peering up at his sister. “That wasn’t for you to see.”

“So, it’s not true? You aren’t trying to get me sent away against my will?” Jill asked, staring at him.

“I didn’t say that…” Gavin said in return. “I will explain everything to you later. But for right now, I’d like to enjoy my meal.”

Jill glared at Judy for a moment before looking back at Gavin.

“Your taste in women is terrible,” she muttered. ‘As she said that, she noticed me standing nearby and her face lit up.

“Oh! Hello, Nora! I didn’t know you worked here,” she said with a bright smile.

“Nora?” Gavin asked, that smirk returning to his face.

He leaned back in his seat and folded his arms across his chest as well.

Jill looked around my face and then at Gavin.

“What’s wrong?” She asked with a frown.

“Why don’t you tell her what’s wrong… Nora,” Gavin said teasingly.

I didn’t want to do this right here; especially when I knew others were around and could hear this entire conversation. But they were all looking at me curiously and I wasn’t sure what else to say.

I looked at Jill and gave her a small smile.

“I lied to you…” I said, lowering my gaze. “My name isn’t Nora…I just didn’t want you to know who I really was…”

“I don’t understand,” Jill said, furrowing her brows together.

“My real name is Erin,” I told her.

She was quiet for a moment and then I saw the realization flashing through her eyes.

“Oh, my goddess…” she breathed.

“I still don’t get it,” Judy said, shaking her head. “Who is Erin?”

At that point, I saw a flash of hurt and then pure anger in Jill’s eyes as she answered Judy’s question.

“My brother’s bitch of an ex-girlfriend.”
