Chapter 6: Such a Fiancé Is Unnecessary

"Emily, do you even know what you're saying?"

James couldn't believe she had said "break off the engagement" so casually. His face darkened as he questioned her.

Emily remained indifferent, "When..."

"Emily..." Bianca interrupted urgently before Emily could finish.

A flash of joy passed through Bianca's eyes, but she continued to speak with concern, "Emily, you can't be impulsive. Don't let your disagreement with James affect things. Apologize to him quickly. He cares about you so much; he'll surely forgive you for your thoughtless words."

Bianca then tugged at James' sleeve, "James, Emily is just speaking out of jealousy. It's partly my fault. Can you forgive her and not break off the engagement?"

Compared to Emily's cold and indifferent demeanor, Bianca appeared much more kind and understanding.

Why couldn't Emily be more like Bianca?

But at least this gave him an out.

"Alright, for your sake, I won't hold it against her."

James nodded, his gaze softening.

However, when he looked at Emily, his expression turned icy, "Emily, as long as you apologize, I won't break off the engagement."

James still thought she was just speaking out of anger, not realizing her determination.

"Apologizing is out of the question," Emily said firmly.

"How can you be so ungrateful and stubborn?" Hayden was furious and snapped, "Look at you and then look at Bianca. If you could be even a fraction as sensible as Bianca, we wouldn't have this family turmoil."

"Exactly, Emily. We're giving you a chance to apologize because Bianca is kind and generous. If it were anyone else, you'd have been kicked out long ago. Everyone's been lenient with you because of Bianca," Finn chimed in.

Emily sneered internally.

Even though the truth was out, she wasn't the one who had harmed Bianca; she had actually helped her.

But because Bianca felt her reputation was slightly tarnished, Emily was now the villain.

Once a heart is biased, there's no straightening it out.

Finn then turned to James, "James, I think Emily is doing this on purpose, thinking you won't really break off the engagement. If you agree to break it off, she'll back down immediately."

James' eyes flashed as he looked deeply at Emily.

"James, don't..." Bianca started to speak, seemingly wanting to persuade him.

Seeing Bianca's selflessness, James' attitude toward Emily hardened, "Since you're so ungrateful, I'll break off the engagement when we get back."

Emily's fingers curled slightly.

She had already decided and was mentally prepared.

But at this moment, a wave of pain still washed over her.

Eli's heart sank when he heard about breaking off the engagement and was about to speak.

Emily raised her eyes and suddenly said, "Wait!"

James' eyes flashed with a smug smile, thinking: Of course, she wouldn't want to break off the engagement.

"What, regretting it now?" He smirked, his eyes full of mockery.

Eli also breathed a sigh of relief.

Hayden scoffed, "I knew it, just another tactic to exploit Bianca's kindness and softness. James should stand firm and break off the engagement, not give you a chance to backtrack."

James' face turned cold, clearly agreeing with Hayden.

Emily sneered, "James, you and Bianca both love demanding apologies. You two are a perfect match. I'm more than happy to let you be together; there's no way I'd regret it."

"Then what do you want to say?" James asked coldly, his face darkening.

Emily pulled out a necklace she had kept close to her heart. It was cheap and not valuable, but it had been precious to her because of who gave it to her.

Now, without hesitation, she threw it into James' lap.

"Let's not drag this out. Let's break off the engagement now. This was the token of our engagement; I'm returning it to you. Give me back the ring you gave me, and we can officially end it. From now on, we're done."

James instinctively caught the necklace.

His heart felt a strange pang, as if something precious was slipping away.

But he couldn't grasp it before it vanished.

Thinking of the token he had given her, and how she so heartlessly threw it back, he was furious.

How dare she!

James felt his blood boil, glaring at Emily, "Fine, fine, fine. You, being so unreasonable and complicated, are indeed unworthy to marry me. We'll break off the engagement. But I don't have the ring with me today. I'll have it sent to you as soon as I get back to the Smith Villa."

Emily frowned slightly, then nodded, "Alright. I trust the Smith family won't go back on their word."

She then smirked and held up her phone, "Of course, I'm not worried because I recorded everything."

"You, you're really something!"

James couldn't believe she didn't trust him and even recorded their conversation.

When had she become so cunning and calculating?

At this moment, she felt like a stranger to him.

Eli saw that James was really angry and feared he might take it out on the Johnson family. Unable to hold back, he sternly reprimanded, "What nonsense are you talking? James chose you and agreed to the engagement; that's your good fortune. You don't appreciate it and cause trouble?"

Emily looked at Eli, who always prioritized benefits.

She bluntly revealed his true intentions.

"Don't worry. Even though I'm breaking off the engagement, Bianca will take my place. Isn't that what you wanted?"

"Emily..." Bianca's eyes welled up with tears, her voice choked, "I didn't realize you misunderstood me so deeply. My closeness to James was because of you.

Bianca gave James a longing glance, as if she had made a great psychological effort, "To ease your concerns, I'll avoid James in the future, as long as you don't resent me or the Johnson family and don't hurt James."

A brilliant move of retreating to advance.

James' expression changed slightly.

He quickly held Bianca's hand, "It's not your fault; you don't have to do this."

He then looked coldly at Emily, "If there's no trust, this engagement shouldn't exist."

He spoke without hesitation, his gaze icy as he looked at Emily.

Emily thought to herself, perhaps he had wanted to say this for a long time.

"Indeed, a fiancé like you isn't necessary either." She smirked coldly.

This made James' face darken.

The air inside the car seemed to freeze.

Eli was furious.

He knew that if she stayed any longer, she would only anger James more. He decided to show his stance and help James vent.

"Unrepentant brat. Driver, stop the car." Eli ordered, then coldly told Emily, "You've grown bold, huh? Get out and reflect on your actions!"
