Chapter 3

Scarlet looked at the man, then nodded, but her eyes were cold.

She recalled the kind of room she had been given, and this time, she was determined to get the best of the best. Not to suffer silently.

She held Sophia’s hand and followed the man. Ann and her mother glanced at each other before following them, but John just sat there looking at their departing figures, seeming to be deep in thought. He had a feeling that his new sister wasn’t what she was portraying; he thought he would have to keep an eye on her and see what she was really up to so that she couldn’t ruin their plans.

When Scarlet and the rest reached the first floor, her father started going to a room that seemed to be secluded, and Scarlet sneered.

“Dad, where are you going?” Scarlet asked, causing everyone to halt and look at her.

At that moment, she held her head pretending to be in pain. ‘Aahh, it hurts,” she shouted, startling everyone, and Sophia held her tightly.

“Are you okay? What’s happening?” Sophia asked while the other family of three stood at the side, wanting to watch the drama.

After a few minutes of Scarlet screaming and holding her head, Mr Jenkins understood that Scarlet wasn’t pretending; she was truly in pain, and he looked at the butler with a frown and said coldly, “Call the doctor immediately.” The man nodded and hurriedly walked away.

Scarlet stood up slowly as she looked everywhere in confusion and then at her father.

“I am sorry and didn’t mean to cause such a commotion. It’s just that I have seen something and some memories started to come by full force,” Scarlet said in a low yet fearful tone, stunning everyone. Sophia stared at Scarlet and sighed, feeling like she could slap the latter due to making her panic when she was just plotting against them.

“Oh. What do you remember?” Mr Jenkins asked as he was really interested in what the latter recalled.

“That I used to play in this house and the garden. The first floor is for the butler, a storeroom, music room, library, some guest rooms, and the gym. My room is on the second floor, but I really cannot recall where it is. Dad, where were you going? Shouldn’t we go to the second floor?” Scarlet asked, making the family of three freeze while Sophia lowered her head immediately as she understood what the latter was trying to do.

Without waiting for a reply, Scarlet continued walking up the stairs, causing Ann’s expression to turn ugly as she was the one who had taken Scarlet’s room after the latter was chased away. She tensed as she didn’t know what to do. They had all planned everything carefully, but never expected the latter to be so hard to please.

By the time the family came back to their senses, Scarlet and Sophia were about to reach the second floor, and they hurriedly followed them.

Scarlet pretended not to remember the rooms as she walked while standing at the front of each room. She then stood in one of the rooms then opened the door, which she had not done in the other rooms. Ann looked at Scarlet coldly, but she was trembling and then looked at her father with pleading eyes.

“I really can’t recall whether this is my room or not, but I really want this room. I feel connected to it,” Scarlet said as she walked in as if it were her room.

“Uhm, sister, you can pick another room cause this is one is mine,” Ann said when no one stood up for her, and Scarlet turned to her.

“I am sorry, but I really want this room. You can take the room which dad had prepared for me,” Scarlet said, then looked at her father nervously and innocently.

“Didn’t you say that when I came back, I could get anything I want? Were you lying? You can’t even let me stay in this room?” Scarlet asked her eyes full of eyes when she didn’t hear anyone respond, making her father massage his temple as he didn’t know what to do.

“Scarlet, this room belongs to Ann. Choose any other room,” her father said in a stern voice, but Scarlet cried out more.

“I remember my aunt’s room used to be opposite mine, so this room was originally mine. You guys chased us out, leaving us to die there, but you gave your daughter my things,” Scarlet said as she cried, but the family of three was shocked.

“You said you would treat me the same way you treat your kids, but you're all bullying me cause my mother isn’t alive. You helped your daughter snatch my stuff, and now that I have come back and I am asking for them, yet you lie and say that it’s her room? Dad, why are you lying?” Scarlet said, making the man’s expression turn ugly.

“I have now realized that whatever the villagers said was true. When one gets a stepmother, she gets a stepfather too. Look, my father isn’t even siding with me,” Scarlet said as she cried, making her father stare at her, then look at his wife coldly.

“Ann, you can choose another room. She is right, this room originally belonged to her, you should give it back to her,” her father said, stunning everyone, including Scarlet, as she never thought the man would give in so quickly.

“But, Dad. I have been in this room for many years, it’s mine!” Ann shouted, making her father glare at her.

“Are you now shouting at me? Your sister has suffered outside, and you should give her anything she wants as compensation. Weren’t you happy to know that you have a sister and she is coming back? Why has everything changed?” her father asked coldly, but looked at Ann as if he was hinting at something. Ann just stared at him, then looked at Scarlet coldly as she was now sure the latter was just pretending.

“But it's…”

“Sister, my mother had specifically renovated this room for me. I have now remembered. This room is mine. You want to take everything that is mine, but you say that I am the one? You already have my dad, and you made him throw me out. Even after coming back, why can’t you let me live peacefully?” Scarlet asked, looking at Ann with a heartbroken expression.

“I have always wanted a sister who is about the same age as me so that we can share everything, but it seems that you don’t like me,” Scarlet said as she bit her lower lip, looking wronged.

“Enough. Scarlet, this room is yours,” Mr Jenkins said as he didn’t want to hear them again.

Scarlet nodded her head, then looked at the door opposite hers, and Mrs Jenkins had a premonition in her heart. Ann, on the other hand, realized that things weren’t going as she had thought and planned to use her triumph card on her father, but before she even started, she heard…

“That room belonged to my aunt. She is my mother’s sister, so she is also taking her room,” Scarlet said as if she was stating facts.

“No! That’s your brother's room,” Mr Jenkins said coldly. It was one thing for Scarlet to take Ann’s room, but he won’t let her take his son’s room. That was his heir and his only son; he deserves the best of everything.

Ann watched her father coldly but didn’t say anything as she already knew the position she held in that man’s heart.

“I am sorry. Aunt, they snatched everything that belonged to us. We have nothing here, and they don’t even let us take back everything that belonged to us. We aren’t welcome here, let’s just go back,” Scarlet said with a pained look as she looked at Sophia, who nodded her her, but Mr Jenkins was stunned.

“Okay, if that’s what you want, then let’s go back,” Sophia said with a sigh.

“I am sorry. This mansion belonged to my sister, and she left everything to her daughter, but now you have taken everything. Since we aren’t welcome here, we will leave at this moment. Please don’t contact us again,” Sophia said, then she took Scarlet’s hand and they started walking away, leaving the stunned three there, wondering what had just happened.
