Chapter 4
“Dad, don’t forget why she is back in the first place,” Ann said as she panicked when she saw her parents frozen.
She was happy that she won’t be losing her room alone. Her brother has always acted highly and mightily; thus, when she heard Scarlet’s words, she was secretly happy that, for once, her brother was also not getting what he wanted.
Mr Jenkins stared at Ann coldly, and Mrs Jenkins sighed.
“Why are you looking at her like that? Isn’t she telling the truth? Even if you love John so much, don’t forget that Ann is engaged to the Carters' family. She is as important as John is. If Ann fails to get married to the Carters successfully, then how will John get the Carters' support when he takes over the company?” Mrs Jenkins asked, stunning her husband, who stared at her for a while, then glanced at Ann before nodding.
“I had forgotten,” Mr Jenkins said before looking at the ground floor, but he couldn’t see Scarlet and Sophia. He frowned, then he saw them walking on the stairs slowly.
“Scarlet, you can come back. Daddy has thought everything through, and you guys can take the rooms back,” Mr Jenkins said, making Scarlet smirk as she had known that they won’t really let her go when they had a reason why they had brought her back. How can they let her go so easily? She was just making things difficult for them, wanting to see how far they could go.
John was stunned when he heard his father’s words and looked at Scarlet coldly. He had a bad feeling, causing him to stand up and walk to them.
“Excuse me, uncle. Can you please send someone to take their things from our rooms?” Scarlet asked the butler who had been watching the commotion.
The man looked at Mr Jenkins, who nodded his head as he hadn’t thought that Scarlet would do such a thing. However, it was a good thing as he knew how Ann and John treasured everything in their room. Ann also sighed, feeling that Scarlet may not have known what was good for her.
“Scarlet, this card contains ten million. Go do shopping with it and get everything you need for your room,” Mr Jenkins said when Scarlet got where he was. “It’s a compensation.”
“Just ten million?” Sophia sneered. She had been worried that Scarlet would be bullied, but now that she had seen Scarlet’s attitude towards the man, she didn’t care anymore.
“My sister had saved money for Scarlet. She had warned you before dying and told you that Scarlet’s monthly allowance should be two hundred and fifty thousand. If we were to count the ten years Scarlet has been away, the money you should be giving her as her allowance should have already amounted to thirty million,” she added, making the four stare at her coldly never expected that she would exploit them on the first day they arrived.
“Why look at me like that? You want her back, thus she should also have everything that belongs to her. If you aren’t ready to provide her with everything that belongs to her, then there is no need for us to stay here,” Sophia said coldly.
“Who are you to speak here?” John said coldly, making Sophia and Scarlet sneer.
“I am the sister to the legitimate wife, unlike you, who is the son of a mistress!” Sophia answered.
“Sophia!” Mr Jenkins shouted as he felt the latter had gone too far.
“What? I am just stating facts. Anyways, give the thirty million to Scarlet, if you don’t have it then prepare for it,” Sophia said, not intending to back down. “The ten million you have given her is for renovating the room; it was supposed to be done before she even came, so you won’t be giving up that ten million.”
Mr Jenkins looked at Sophia coldly and felt fearful. However, he still added thirty million to the card he had given Scarlet as he didn’t want such a small money to be the reason he lost his grip on the two. They were even worth billions.
After getting the money, Scarlet was in a very good mood.
“Uhm, where are my mother’s belongings?” she asked her father when she remembered that her father’s wife and Ann would sell her mother’s belongings when they realized their value. She thought that now that they had not discovered anything, it was better if she took them all as her own.
“In her room, why?” Mr Jenkins asked, staring at Scarlet.
“I want to use her things,” she said, making Mr Jenkins frown. “You know, I don’t even remember her. I want to feel close to her. You won’t refuse that right? I promise, after that, I won’t ask for anything else.”
“Honey, let her have them. It’s the only way to be close to her mother,” Mrs Jenkins said as she and Ann felt that it was worth it, if it meant for the latter to stop causing trouble, then it was okay. The stuff wasn’t worth anything.
At the same time, she wanted to portray her kindness in front of Scarlet.
“Okay,” Mr Jenkins said when he saw that his wife had agreed.
Scarlet smiled brightly, causing Ann to be jealous, seeing the bright smile that made Scarlet look prettier than before.
“Uncle, after everything is taken out, please clean the room thoroughly, then use my mother’s furniture. Everything in her room should be kept in my room,” Scarlet said, not caring whether her words had offended anyone.
The butler nodded and walked towards that room.
“Aunt, we should go shopping. We don’t have enough clothes to wear,” Scarlet said to Sophia. However, she inwardly hoped she could go alone as she needed to do something. That way, she would have a backup without fearing the Jenkins since they insisted in letting her stay.
“No need. I will stay back to supervise the work and make sure everything that belonged to sister has been placed in your room,” Sophia said as she didn’t trust that family.
Scarlet nodded before walking away.
“Scarlet, you don’t know the city, take the driver with you,” Mr Jenkins said as a good father he was but he just wanted to see whether Scarlet lied about not recalling anything.
Scarlet didn’t argue with him and nodded.
When she arrived at the mall, she walked to the largest store, knowing too well that she was being followed and wanted to prove to them that she was really shopping.
As soon as she walked, everyone’s eyes turned to her, including a man who was in another room. He could see her, but Scarlet couldn’t; he frowned and then gestured for someone to serve her.
