Chapter 5

“Sir, why are you paying attention to such a person?” his friend asked when he saw his gaze still on the young lady.

The man just glanced at his friend, then shook his friend as he had a gut feeling. That’s why he even noticed her in the first place when she walked in.

Ann walked into the shop with her friend, looking at Scarlet in disdain.

“Ann, is this your sister who came from the countryside?” one of the girls asked in a low tone, when she saw how Ann looked at Scarlet. Also, the outfit Scarlet gave her away. It was out of place.

Ann didn’t answer but walked towards Scarlet.

“Sister, I was afraid that you would get lost or not know which are the latest fashions and follow you here. Hope you aren’t mad for overstepping boundaries,” Ann said in a loud voice, making everyone look at her.

Even the two men looked at her. One frowned, displeased as he knew what was going on, he had seen such scenarios. While the other looked at the scene with excited eyes, as he really loved to watch dramas.

“Sister, please. You just came back from the countryside, so…” Ann said, but when she met Scarlet’s cold eyes, she stopped feeling fearful.

“First of all, how can a bastard child like you, born of a mistress, brought by your mother into my family, become my sister? Actually, are you even worth talking to me?” Scarlet said coldly as she was displeased.

When she saw Ann, she knew what the latter was about to do. In her previous life, she had been too naïve. When Ann volunteered to show her around and go shopping, she was so happy and agreed, but what was the result? She was humiliated in the mall and became the city’s laughingstock immediately she arrived.

She knew that Ann must be dissatisfied with what happened at home and brought her friends to trouble her while humiliating her in the name of helping her. The clothes Ann chose for herself in her past life were outdated outfits. When she wore them, everyone couldn’t stop laughing at her.

After saying those words, Scarlet walked towards the shelf and started picking out the clothes that she recalled her classmates had mentioned which were the latest fashion in her past life.

Seeing her picking those outfits, Ann’s face turned ugly as she recognized them. She had already visited the shop, but she didn’t have enough money to purchase them and had planned to purchase them after getting the money from her mother.

Who knew that even before she got the money, this country pumpkin would take them all? However, she was puzzled about whether Scarlet knew that they were the latest fashion or not. If she knew, how did she know. If not, was her taste in fashion that good?

Her friend mistook that she was angry with what Scarlet had said, and one of them hurriedly walked towards Scarlet. She went ahead of touched Scarlet’s shoulder, but the latter, as if she knew what the lady wanted to do, turned around all of a sudden, grabbed the girl’s hand, and twisted it, causing the person to scream loudly out of pain.

“Scarlet, what are you doing? Let her go,” Ann said angrily, as she never expected Scarlet to hurt someone all of a sudden. Inwardly, she was happy at the commotion as she believed everyone who was at the store would get a bad impression on Scarlet.

“Oh, sorry. I just felt someone trying to harm me and just reacted by instinct. I didn’t know that she was with you,” Scarlet said innocently, making Ann grit her teeth as she knew that Scarlet was just pretending.

“How could you not know? Didn’t you see her with us before?” one of Ann's friends shouted.

“Well, as she said, I just came from the countryside, how would I know who you are? Also, when you guys came, did you see me turning around to look at who Ann was with? Please refrain yourself,” Scarlet said coldly, making the girl speechless.

“Scarlet, you shouldn’t hurt anyone. Apologise before Dad hears about it and sends you back,” Ann said, panicking. Her tone showed great fear, which made Scarlet scoff.

“Ann, maybe I should remind you of your identity. Who the hell do you think you are? Also, please stop pretending that you are here to help me. I am sure that you are mad after having being forced to give up your room,” Scarlet said, shocking Ann’s friends as they never thought that Scarlet had such power.

Ann glared at Scarlet as she wondered why the latter didn’t do as expected.

Scarlet stared at the outfits she had picked and felt that maybe everyone was looking down on her cause of her dressing. She had long sensed that there were some people hidden who had been following her every move.

It wasn’t that she was paranoid, but she felt that they were keeping an eye on her as they thought that she wasn’t worthy of shopping in such stores, and maybe was there to steal.

“Please keep an eye on them. I am coming back,” Scarlet said as she picked a navy blue skirt and a cream blouse before walking towards the shoe sector, picked a black six-inch heels.

“Hahaha. Do you think that you will be able to walk in them? Stop underestimating yourself. I am even sure that you choose them cause they seem so appealing to you and you have never seen such shoes,” the girl next to Ann said mockingly, making the others laugh at her. Even Ann had a smile on her face, though she had her head lowered as she didn’t want anyone to see it.

“Tsk, tsk. That girl really knows how to act,” the jovial man in the room said, looking at Ann with disdain, as he had seen many people who behaved like that.

Scarlet ignored them and walked towards the jewelry section. She pointed at a pair of earrings that were made of white crystals, a gold necklace with a sapphire pendant, and a bracelet made of blue agate stone.

“Miss, these jewels combined are more than fifty thousand,” the salesperson said, feeling hesitant as she could tell that Scarlet wanted to go and dress up. However, she was afraid that even after dressing up, she won’t be able to pay for them, after all, they had all heard that the young miss was from the countryside.

“You heard her. More than fifty thousand, I am sure that you have never seen such a large amount in your life,” someone said mockingly.

“Oh? Then why don’t you ask Ann how much I have?” Scarlet said with a knowing smile while winking at Ann, whose face darkened, but she didn’t dare say that their father had given her more than thirty million in the morning.

Seeing Ann not talking, the others understood what her silence meant. The salesperson gave Scarlet a sorry look as she handed over the jewels. Scarlet didn’t say anything or beat around the bush. She took them and walked towards the dressing room.

“How do you think she will look?” the jovial guy asked his friend, who was watching the commotion with him. At first, he had thought that the latter won’t pay attention to such drama, but found that he was wrong. This made him believe more that his friend must be interested in a young lady whose skin seemed darker than the rest.
