Chapter 6

The man nonetheless ignored him. He took his phone from the table and texted someone.

“How is everything going on?” he asked his friend as he glanced at him, then looked outside.

The man sighed and said, “I checked it out, and after testing the waters, the results were that they don’t know that you are here. But are you really going to stay in this city just trying to avoid them? I told you a long time ago to take them out, but you are still soft-hearted toward them.”

“Who said that I am softhearted? It’s just that I avoid trouble. If I were to do anything to one of them, do you think they would continue with the sneaky attacks or go for the aggressive ones?” the man asked.

“Also, grandpa doesn’t want us to fight,” he added, and his friend shook his head.

“You are really lost. You love your old man, but he just loves everyone equally. Also, it isn’t that I don’t know what you are trying to avoid. If you were to take any action on them, your old man most probably will punish you or even take your position in the company,” his friend said, and the man sneered.

“He doesn’t dare. I am the one who revived it after the mess they had caused. Also, if he were to take it, wanting me to submit, then he would be so wrong. Don’t forget one of the reasons I am here,” the man said, causing his friend to sigh, but he didn’t say anything else.

He knew that his friend was already determined, and as long as they didn’t cross the line, he would always tolerate them, but till when? They both knew the only reason why none of their plans ever succeeded was because they were skilled and had a lot of bodyguards guarding them always, but could they be so sure that nothing would happen to them?

Just as he was about to say something, he saw his friend staring so hard outside, and he turned his head to look at what was going on.

“She has changed so much after dressing up. If she were to stand together with those young ladies at the capital, her standing won’t be too low. Too bad, her skin is dark,” he said, and the man didn’t say anything, neither refuting his words nor agreeing with them.

“She looks familiar,” the man murmured as she stared at Scarlet’s face.

His friend looked at his friend with a frown, then turned his gaze to Scarlet, staring at her, and Scarlet frowned and looked in their direction; she could feel some eyes on her. However, she knew that it wouldn’t be to her advantage if she were to ask who was in that room and why they were staring at her so intensity.

Ann and her friends were so shocked when Scarlet walked out. She refused to believe that the person standing in front of her was the country bumpkin she was looking down at.

She had long known that Scarlet was pretty cause she recalled how she looked when she was young, and that was why she followed her here. She had wanted to choose clothes for her good stepsister, who knew nothing, but at the same time make everyone see how disgusting she was.

‘Help to hide the beauty,’ but who knew that the girl was so on guard against her. She felt crisis as at the moment, Scarlet’s skin was darker but what would happen after she went for the saunas?

“Wow. I never expected her to change so much. So it means that if people were to wear well, they can become so pretty,” the man said, causing the other to roll their eyes.

“You talk as if this is the first time seeing someone’s change. Also, why don’t the others change when they dress for the banquets?” the other sneered, making his friend glare at him before they both turned to look at Scarlet.

“Ann,” one of Ann’s followers saw that Scarlett didn’t make a fool of herself, and she didn’t know what to do next; thus, she tapped the latter and called her softly, hoping she would come up with something, as she knew that the girl wasn’t as innocent as she pretended.

The moment they were called, and Ann mentioned that her new sister was going shopping, she knew that the girl must have done something to make Ann hate her. However, she also expected that Scarlet would be so pretty after being doled up. She immediately knew that Ann never wanted anyone to see how pretty her new sister looked as she was outshone.

“What!” Ann shouted, making everyone in the store look at her, while Scarlet smirked as she already knew what was going on in the latter’s mind.

“I have changed my outfit, and I guess you already know that I can choose my own outfits. Please go back, as I am afraid you don’t have enough money for shopping. Though I have enough money, I have a lot of things to do with it,” Scarlet said, stunning everyone as they never expected her to say such a thing. At most, they thought that she would pretend to be innocent and get along with her sister.

“You!” Ann said, unable to refute, as she didn’t have enough money with her. She looked at Scarlet and sneered, thinking that one way or another, she would pay for what she had done.

She turned around to leave, and Scarlet’s eyes turned cold as she watched her walk away.

“Oh, don’t forget to change rooms as soon as possible,” she whispered, but enough for those around her to hear it.

Ann’s face turned pale as she never expected the latter to say such a thing.

“Scarlet!” Ann shouted.

“Shhh. You are behaving like a mad person in a market. We are in an international brand store. You won’t want them to blacklist you for behaving like a mad woman,” Scarlet said, making everyone speechless, though they couldn’t deny that her words were true.

“I know you feel aggrieved for how could they welcome a country bumpkin like me and blacklist you, right?” Scarlet said with a giggle. “Anyways, leave now and behave like the socialite you are known as.”

Lennox, the cold and aloof man seated in the room, chuckled, shocking his friend.

“Did you just laugh?” he asked, and the man stopped, being his usual self, making his friend speechless, but he didn’t dare say anything else.

“Get the manager to gift her the latest jewels,” he said before standing up and turning around to leave.
