Chapter 7
“Huh? Wait for me,” his friend shouted when he saw the latter leaving. He immediately stood up and walked hurriedly towards the door, but then halted.
“You heard what your boss said,” he said to the man who had been standing outside the door.
“Young master Owen, the master instructed you, not me,” the man retorted, though he had heard everything his boss had said. However, how could he just give in and follow whatever this man in front of him was saying?
“Hmph. He isn’t my boss. If the words won’t be delivered to the manager, do you think that I would lose my salary, or is it you?” the young man replied, making the other furious and glare at him hatefully, but there was nothing he could do.
Even if the words were instructed to the man, he couldn’t deny and do as he wished, as he was still right.
Scarlet, who was still choosing clothes, saw the man’s back as he left and halted her actions. She felt the man was familiar, but she couldn’t tell where she had seen him. However, she was so sure that it was someone whom she had once seen and not so familiar with, cause in her past life, her life was always monitored by her family, who never allowed her to have any friends.
Since she had decided to change everything, she understood that she needed to find someone way more powerful than her family who would keep them on track.
Without someone behind her, she knew that she might walk through the same path she had in her past life. She recalled a few of the famous people or the heirs who will become powerful in the future, but she failed to recognize the man by his back only, no matter how much she thought about it.
“Young miss, have you picked everything, or are there some things that you want to add?” the salesperson who had been following Scarlet asked when she saw her standing and seemed deep in thought.
“When will your next release be?” she asked the young lady, who was stunned as she never thought that the latter was thinking about that.
“Two months later, miss,” the young lady replied, making Scarlet nod her head.
“The clothes are always released in every season. It’s currently the summer, two and a half months to winter, thus the winter outfit will be in the store at that time,” the shop attendant explained further.
“Okay, I will come to pick the winter outfits then,” Scarlet said as she turned around to walk to the counter.
She had just wanted to come out of the house, and she wasn’t really interested in shopping. She wanted to complete whatever brought her out as soon as possible before going back. She felt so tired and still wanted to go back to the mansion and recall everything that had happened in her past life.
She felt that the outfits would be enough for a month as she still had to go to school, and she would be wearing a uniform. She had picked enough outfits for herself and her aunt.
The woman at the jewelry section received a call from the boss, making her look at Scarlet in shock, but she still did as told.
After Scarlet paid the bill, she walked towards the window as she wanted to see whether the driver was still there. As she had guessed, the car wasn’t where she had left it. She chuckled as she thought that this stepsister of hers was somehow stupid.
“Send them to this address, fifteen minutes later. My Aunt, Sophia, should receive and sign the delivery receipt,” she said to the shop attendant, who nodded and immediately wrote the address down.
Scarlet walked towards an electronics shop, bought two latest phones, two headphones, two iPads, and two laptops. After that, she borrowed the seller his phone and dialed a familiar number.
“Hello, who is this?” a cold and confused voice sounded on the other side.
“Dad, it’s me, Scarlet. I recall the number you called yesterday,” Scarlet said who she was and how she got the number, not to raise any suspicions.
Mr Jenkins was surprised when he heard who he was and wondered why she was calling. When he recalled that Scarlet had left for shopping, his expression darkened as he thought that the latter had already used all of the money he had transferred to her.
“What is it? Where are you?” he asked coldly, making Scarlet roll her eyes as she could tell what he was thinking.
“I am still at the mall. Sister Ann was here a few minutes ago with her friends. I have just finished shopping, but upon walking out, I found the driver wasn’t where I left him. I have been told that he had left with some girls. After the descriptions, it's Ann and her friends. I am still unfamiliar with the city, so how am I supposed to come back now? This phone, I borrowed from someone. Dad, could you please send someone to come for me?” Scarlet said, causing the man’s expression to become darker than before.
He felt that he had been humiliated. However, he also understood what was going on. With Ann’s temper, she would indeed do that. But he never expected that the latter won’t suffer even a bit; instead, he called him and complained. Even if he didn’t want to do anything, could he really pretend that nothing happened?
The latter had already said that she borrowed the phone thus it might be possible that there were people who were listening to her at the moment, if he didn’t send someone to fetch her, who knew what the news tomorrow would be reading? Still, he didn’t dare get angry at her but thought of the person who had caused all of this mess.
“Then stay where you are. The driver will be there in fifteen minutes. Come back immediately,” Mr Jenkins said.
“Dad, I initially wanted to keep the shopping bags in the car before going and buying casual outfits for going to school and out. I have also seen beautiful dresses which I have been told are called gowns for parties,” Scarlet said, pretending to be unfamiliar with even the names portraying a country pumpkin as they thought she was.
“Just come back immediately when the driver comes. I will also call some brands to come home and take your measurements before bringing the gowns,” Mr Jenkins said with a sigh as he thought he really couldn’t let her buy those clothes, as she might make a fool of herself there, and it was better if he called the designers at home.
“Does that mean that my sister will also get new clothes? She has so many clothes, unlike me. She even left with the driver cause she…” Scarlet said as she started crying, making Mr Jenkins believe that there was something else that Ann did.
He glared at his wife, who was seated opposite him, thinking that she was the one who had not taught their daughter well. Hearing Scarlet crying loudly on the other side, he felt disgusted and, and panicked at the same time, as being in the mall meant that there were people who were watching her cry. If they knew that she was his daughter, won’t they say that they had bullied her on the first day she arrived? Just the thought of it made a cold shiver run down his spine.
