Chapter 4
“This child shouldn’t exist. He should die.”
Alpha Lucas’s voice was bone-chilling. I stood frozen, staring at him in disbelief.
“Are you insane, Alpha Lucas? This is my child—it has nothing to do with you! What gives you the right—”
“The right?” he cut me off, his golden eyes full of disdain. “Look at yourself. You’re not fit to be a mother. Keeping this child would only disgrace me.”
He lunged forward like a beast hunting its prey, trying to force me into surrendering my baby with brute strength.
I struggled wildly, snarling back,
“My child is an Alpha’s! If you lay another hand on me, Alpha Charles will make you regret it!”
That name sparked a wave of laughter from those around us.
“Alpha Charles? What, from one of your dreams?”
“She actually claimed her pup belongs to Alpha Charles? Delusional bitch.”
“You kidding me? Charles is one of the highest-ranked Alphas in the North, bearer of the Alpha Emblem. And she? She’s not even allowed past the Omega dorm gates.”
“Most likely had a wild night with some rogue. Now she’s trying to pin the pup on someone powerful.”
The pain in my lower belly grew sharper and sharper—I couldn’t even stand.
I clutched at the hem of someone’s pants, sobbing:
“Please… Please, my child really is Alpha Charles’s. He’s always kept a low profile. The bond ceremony was private, only a few trusted allies attended…”
“Just save my pup… He’ll thank you. He will…”
Some of the surrounding Betas began to waver, whispering hesitantly.
But then Bianca stepped forward, heels clicking, voice laced with mock pity.
“Winnie, wake up already. We used to live together—you’ve never even met Alpha Charles. And now you’re spinning this wild story? If you want to protect your bastard pup, at least try something more believable.”
Her words snuffed out the last flickers of sympathy.
The Betas around me fell silent, stepping back as if I carried disease.
I nearly collapsed in despair.
Suddenly, a familiar voice cut through the noise like a blade:
“Alpha Charles has arrived!”
The hall went dead silent. Every eye turned to the entrance.
Tears streamed down my cheeks as I reached out toward the door, crawling:
“Alpha Charles… Please… Save our pup…”
Lucas’s face twisted with fury. He grabbed my arm with such force I thought my bones would snap.
“Winnie, I swear—if you keep this up, I’ll make sure you never bear another child again!”
A new voice echoed—icy cold, trembling with restrained wrath.
“Who gave you the courage to touch my Luna and my child?”
Everyone turned in unison.
A man stepped through the doors, clad in a dark-gray Alpha combat cloak, the golden wolf crest gleaming over his heart.
His aura blanketed the room like winter frost. The air thickened. Even the light seemed to bend around him.
Alpha Charles.
A presence like the Moon Goddess’s chosen sword.
He stopped in front of me, eyes sweeping over the scene—finally landing on Lucas’s hand crushing my arm.
He spoke only two words:
“Let go.”
Lucas flinched, immediately releasing me.
But he tried to save face with a sneer:
“Who the hell are you? This is our Pack’s business. You have no place here.”
Alpha Charles didn’t even dignify him with an answer.
Instead, he knelt slightly and looked at me—his expression softening.
“Winnie… I came straight from the Council. I’m sorry I’m late. Are you alright?”
I sobbed, clutching his sleeve.
“Alpha Charles… Our pup… I was pushed, and my stomach—it hurts. It hurts so much…”
His face darkened instantly.
“If anything happens to her or the child,” he growled, sweeping his eyes across the hall,
“none of you will leave here unscathed.”
He stripped off his Alpha cloak and draped it over my shoulders, then gently lifted me into his arms.
As he passed Lucas, he didn’t even look at him—just left one cold sentence behind:
“If you show yourself near my Luna again, I’ll see you exiled from the Northlands.”
Lucas gritted his teeth.
“You think you can protect her forever? One day you’ll tire of her too!”
But his words left me numb.
All I could remember was that night in the maternity ward—
when I passed out, still clutching his hand.
And when I awoke, I saw the pink ribbon tied around his wrist—Bianca’s new gift.
He had left me in labor—to drink and dance with her in the wine cellar.
Alpha Charles carried me straight to his private Pack Healers’ Pavilion—a space sacred to werewolves, bathed in lunar crystal light and ancient sigils.
The healer examined me thoroughly and finally exhaled in relief:
“It was stress-induced cramping. The pup is safe.”
Charles rested his hand on my belly, his gaze surprisingly gentle.
“Scared us before you were even born, huh? This little one’s going to be a handful.”
I bit my lip, trying to apologize.
But he raised a hand to silence me.
“Don’t. Don’t say sorry, Winnie. You’re my Luna—my fated mate. Marked by me, chosen by the Moon.”
His voice was hoarse—but unwavering.
“Now… I will get justice for you.”
My fingers trembled.
In that moment, I heard Wendy, my wolf soul, whisper in the stillness—
a voice like moonlight breaking through heavy clouds:
“The Moon will clear our name, Winnie. A true Alpha doesn't rule from above us—
he stands between us and the world.”
I closed my eyes, and for the first time in a long, long time, the tears falling from my face weren’t from pain—
but release.
