Chapter 4 A second for you

Pulling my training Jersey over my head, I grabbed my helmet, trudging to the front door. Deamon was already standing by the door, his eyes fixated on his phone.

“Ready?” He raised his head, slowly slipping his phone into his pocket.

“Why's that your business?” I scoffed, taking one last look at my face through my phone screen.

“I'm driving. I want you by my side, my little girl, Deamon leered, walking past me.

“You are so annoying!” I snorted, rolling my eyes.

When we got downstairs, he hurriedly went to his car and opened the passenger door for me. “Get in,” he said.

“I know how to get to the field, Deamon,” I snapped, walking past him.

{DEAMON’S POV}

I watched Aliya walk past my car, without looking back. Igniting the engine, I slowly drove behind her. “You’re seriously going to walk?” I called out.

She didn’t act like I was talking to her. “Fine,” I added, slowly driving until we both arrived at the field.

Coach Aemond stood with the clipboard, he held the clipboard in the air, my eyes darting to the players training, and practicing and back at Aliya dropping her bag at the corner.

“Everyone get into position”  Coach called out. The moment he saw Aliya he commented, “You are late Aliya,” and frowned.

“Sorry Coach,” she replied, quickly moving towards the players.

For some reason, I don’t know if he didn’t like Aliya or if he was picky and wanted the best from her on the team.

“Deamon, you’re covering Aliya..” he said as I looked at Aliya and smiled. Aliya rolled her eyes at me, the way she looked at me almost made me start laughing.

“We lost to the Titans last season,” Coach Aemond said, looking at all of us. He continued, “Nobody wants a repeat! It’s either you win or you win!”

He scanned around the field then blew his whistle. “Let’s run the play again!”

In position opposite Aliya, she adjusted her helmet against me. “Don’t even think about it,” she warned.

“Think about what?” I thought, wondering what she meant by that.

The centre back snapped the ball to Aliya and she dropped back looking for an open receiver. As I carefully watched her eye movement, she threw the ball to the middle and I followed, knocking the ball away before the receiver could catch it.

“Good coverage,” the coach shouted as the ball fell.  Her fist clenched as she walked back into her position.

On the next play, I noticed she dropped back and released the ball too quickly when the receiver wasn’t even open. We took a short training pause, so I approached her.

“Don’t start, Deamon,” she let out the moment her eyes met me.

“You’re rushing your throws. Take a second and read the field before you release the ball.”

“I didn’t ask for your opinion, Deamon. Worry about covering for your receiver and leave the quarterbacking to me,” she replied, with one hand on her waist.

“Fine, do whatever you want”.

She opened her mouth to speak but paused when the sound of the whistle came again. “That’s enough for today! Everyone hit the shower.”

Without another word, she brushed past me. I grabbed my helmet and followed others out of the field.

“Deamon!” Mark called, slowly jogging towards me. “What’s up fam?”

“We’re all going to Jake’s place, are you coming?”

“Yeah, why?” I laughed, giving our signature handshake before walking back to where the other guys were gathered.

{ALIYA’S POV}

After practice, I headed back home. My body was tired, but my mind was already stuck on everything that happened during training.

Deamon really had no business correcting me. My fingers curled my door open, taking steps in, I dropped my helmet on the table. My throat felt dry so I headed out to drink water in the kitchen.

“Thank goodness Deamon is not home yet,” I let out, taking a deep breath before gulping down the water.

A knock came at the door. Who was coming over? I hope it’s not Deamon. Pulling the door open, my heart dropped. “What are you doing here?”

I cut him off as he opened his mouth to speak, “How did you even find me?”

“Can we just talk? Please?” I took a step forward, slightly closing the door.

“There’s nothing to talk about, Jay.”

“For just five minutes,” he begged. Studying him, I wondered where he stole the audacity to come back begging after he cheated.

“I don’t have even a second for you Jay,” I replied, quickly shutting the door before he could utter another word. Why couldn’t he just leave me alone?

Moving back to my room, I quickly undressed, in my natural state, I wandered to the living room and then to the bathroom.

I missed living at the female dorm. I could easily walk around naked and sit comfortably as long as I wanted to without any fear.

As the shower cascaded down my skin, I reached for my face wash and my body wash. Gently scrubbing my skin, the front door opened.

I froze.

“Fuck!” I had left the front door open. Scanning around, there was no towel in there. I had left mine in my room and I don’t know why I suddenly felt comfortable and thought Deamon was not returning quickly.

Voices and loud laughter followed and a bang that made my pulse race.

“Why did he come back now and how am I going to get out of here?” I mumbled as I scanned around.

“Man! I’m starving!” One of the guys loudly complained.

“Help yourself in the kitchen,” I heard Deamon reply. Just then, I realised I had not eaten.

“Aliya!” He called my name. I didn’t say a word. Suddenly footsteps got closer. “Are you in there?”

I quickly locked the bathroom door, rinsing myself until the noise died down.

Do I ask him to grab my towel or do I sneak out and run into my room?

Grabbing my breasts in my hands, I opened my door and peeked. There was no one in sight. It seemed they had all gone into the kitchen.

With a deep breath and a short prayer, I quickly took quiet steps out of the bathroom.

“Aliya?”
