Introduction

“I kiss you when I want to,” he murmured against my ear, his voice rough enough to send a shiver down my spine. “I fuck you when I want to. So don’t make the mistake of denying me again.”

Evelyn Jonas was the definition of perfection… top of her class, straight A student, and captain of the college cheerleading squad. Her future was already mapped out: graduation, a dream job, and a life every girl envied.

Until one night changed everything.

One invitation. One party. One blackout she can’t explain.
And she wakes up drenched in the blood of one of the most influential hockey players on campus.

Within hours, Evelyn’s perfect life collapses.
Within days, she’s convicted.
Within a month, she’s sentenced to prison with no chance of parole.

Until Him

Adrian Rossi… one of the most feared and deadly Mafia lords in Italy walks out of prison after six years with nothing left but vengeance. His sister is dead, and the only family he had left—his nephew, the child she entrusted to him—was taken from him under suspicious circumstances.

And now he has a name to blame.

Evelyn Jonas.

But Adrian doesn’t come for her with bullets first. He comes with a plan.

Disguised as her court-appointed lawyer, he is the man holding her fragile freedom in his hands.

Evelyn has no idea that the person who got her out of prison is the same man plotting her ruin.

And Adrian Rossi doesn’t believe in mercy.

Chapter 1

Evelyn's POV

My ringing phone drew me from my sleep as I stretched my hand lazily to pick my phone up.

Without staring at the screen, I picked up and was greeted with Nina's voice. “Where the hell are you?” She screamed into the phone so loud I had to push it out of my ears a bit.

My head hurt so bad and I wasn’t really in the mood of any of her dramas

I scoffed and rolled my eyes. “I’m with __” I stopped mid sentence as a loud banging sound filled my head.

“Eve what the fuck did you do!” She shrieked.

My eyes fluttered open trying to shake of this bad headache only for me to freeze at the sight before me.

I jumped off the bed, falling on the floor with a loud thud and a pain shooting up my back but I ignored it.

“Eve? Are you okay ?” I heard Nina asking but her voice sounded distant. I couldn’t think properly not with… not with a dead man in front of me and my body covered in blood.

I remembered spending the night with Dylan, Boston Bruins hockey team center. Every college girl dreams man, now here I am staring at his dead body covered with his blood and I don’t know what’s happening and my memory is blank.

My hands shook greatly how was he dead? What the fuck happened last night? my eyes glued to his body, his intestines out as a line was drawn on his body as I puked on the floor, my breathing coming rapidly.

“Look Eve get the fuck out of there now!” I could hear the desperation in Nina's voice but I couldn't bring myself to say anything

“Eve!” Nina yelled snapping me back to my sense” There’s a video of you trending online right now. you lying close to Dylan body with a knife in your hands girl get out of there now!”

I stood up and rushed into the bathroom, trying to scrub off the blood on my body but it had stuck no matter how hard I scrub it just won’t come off. I scrub for a longer than fifteen minute but the blood won’t come out.

Fuck! I screamed.

Tears rolled freely down my cheeks. I walked back into the room, picked my things like Nina said I had to get out of here as fast as I can. As was about to step out of the room when I began to hear the police sirens.

My heart dropped.

My breathing hiked up and my palms became sweaty. I quickly strolled through my phone and tired to dial Nina’s number.

Once. Twice. Three times it still wasn’t going through.

Fuck! Fuck! Nina where the fuck did you keep your phone.

I ran my hand through my hair. Thinking for a way out but nothing.

I scrolled through my contact again hesitating as I stared at my mom contact. Scared to call..

Suddenly a loud bang came from the door made my legs go weak as I panicking ran to the balcony looking for way out. But I couldn’t jump down the hotel room as it too high.

A voice came from the door.

“Miss Jonas, you've been surrounded and I advise you step out with your hands in the air.” I heard the voice of a police officer but I couldn't bring myself to walk. I fell to the floor, curling myself up as tears streamed down my face.

I didn’t need a soothsayer to tell me.. my life.. is Over!

. My scholarship, the job waiting for me, my position as the cheerleader, everything… gone. How do I explain myself.. how do I tell the police I hadn’t killed him. My sobs grew louder and so did the voices of the police men.

With a loud thud  the room door fall to the floor. “Oh my goodness, you didn’t have to be this brutal to him..” I heard a female voice say.

Before I could respond

Two more officers entered after her . The air in the room shifted instantly… tight, and, suffocating.

“Stand up and hands where we can see them,” one of them ordered.

My throat went dry. “I didn’t— I don’t know what happened—”

“Ma’am,” the female officer cut in, stepping closer, “you are not required to explain anything right now.”

A pause. Then her tone changed… her eyes cold looking at me like I was some monster.

“You are under arrest.”

My stomach dropped.

Before I could speak again she cut me off.

“You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.”

My breath hitched.

“You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford one, one will be provided for you.”

Metal clicked softly as my hands were cuffed without giving me room to explain myself.

“You have the right to have that attorney present during questioning.”

My knees weakened slightly, but I still couldn’t take my eyes off her as she finished talking. A voice inside me yelled to say something but I couldn’t… no matter how much I tired words wouldn’t come out.

“If you choose to speak without a lawyer present, you may stop answering questions at any time.”

A beat of silence passed.’

“Do you understand your rights Miss?”

“Yes.” I whispered softly. My heart shattered and tears streaming down my face.

How did I end up in this mess?

Instead, my fingers curled into his shirt, clutching the fabric as though it was my only anchor. Something in him snapped—something he had been holding back for too long. His mouth found mine in a kiss that wasn't tender, but hungry, desperate.
I gasped into him, his hand sliding up to cup my jaw, holding me as if afraid I might vanish.
"You drive me insane," he breathed against my mouth, his lips trailing to my throat. "I can't lose you, Ella. Not you."
My head fell back, a soft sound escaping me as his fingers memorized my waist. My anger melted beneath his desperation.
"James..." I whispered, more plea than protest.
His hand caught mine, fingers threading together tightly. "I'll bring him back. I swear it. Just... don't turn away from me. Please."
The word please—low, ragged, almost broken—undid me more than anything else could have.
