Chapter 335

Judy’s POV

“You got a lot of your color back,” Eliza said as she entered the hospital room. It’s been a few hours since I woke up the first time. I’ve been in this hospital for about 15 or so hours now, and I was ready to see my mate. My wolf was restless, and yet I could still feel that she was weaker than usual. I didn’t like the feeling of my wolf being weak, and it made me feel vulnerable.

“Have you heard from Gavin?” I asked.

She nodded, looking a bit uncertain for a moment.

“He had some natters to take care of. But he’ll be here soon,” she assured me.

“What kind of matters?” I asked.

“It’s nothing for you to be concerned about…” she told me, patting my hand gently. “You just need to focus on recovering you, your wolf, and the protection of your unborn pup.”

I nodded, though I wanted to argue some more about it with her. My phone buzzed on the bedside table; I hadn’t even noticed it was there. Eliza had it on the charger, which made a small smile tug at my lips. I reached over and grabbed it while Eliza changed out my IV bag.

I saw that I had a few missed texts from both Nan and my mother. They didn’t bother calling me, knowing that I was in the hospital, but they sent me words of love and encouragement so I wouldn’t forget that they were thinking of me. They’d be here with me if Eliza would allow visitors, but she was being cautious, which I couldn’t blame her for. I came close to losing my baby, and if it weren’t for her… I probably would have.

The newest message was from Nan; she sent a photo along with a caption that read: Um… what the fuck happened?

The photo was of Gavin… he was covered in blood.

My entire heart fell into my stomach, and it felt like the wind had been knocked out of me.

I typed a message back.

Me: When was that photo taken?

It only took a second for Irene to message back.

Irene: Woah, wasn’t expecting a reply right now? How are you feeling? Still in the hospital? Can I come visit? We’ve all been so worried.

I rolled my eyes at the fact that she ignored my question, but I knew she and everyone else were worried, so I couldn’t blame her for firing off all these questions.

Me: I haven’t been cleared for visitors yet. I’m feeling okay, though. I found out a lot of stuff I’ll have to catch you up on later. But was that picture you took recent?

Irene: I just took it now. He just got home. He’s in the shower. He was muttering something about some asshole as he stomped up the stairs.

My heart weighed heavily in my chest.

Why was Gavin covered in blood?

“What’s wrong?” Eliza asked once she was done changing the IV.

I showed her the picture of Gavin, and her face went pale.

“Do you know why he’s covered in blood?” I asked, my brows furrowed as I looked up at her.

She bit her lip and looked away. I knew at that moment that she did, in fact, know why he was covered in blood.

“What do you know?” I asked. “Why am I being kept in the dark about what’s happening outside of this hospital?”

“Because I don’t want to stress you out… You can’t handle the stress right now,” she told me, trying to keep her tone calm.

“Not knowing is stressing me out even more,” I told her firmly. “Please, tell me the truth, Eliza. He’s my mate… why is he covered in blood?”

She sighed and sat at my bedside.

“Okay, look… I’m telling you this because you deserve to know what actually happened to you,” she told me, making my heart stutter. What did she mean by that? What actually happened to me? I waited silently for her to continue. “You were drugged…”

I frowned.

“I already knew that,” I told her. “By the doctors… they gave me Moonshade.”

She shook her head.

“Not just that… you were drugged at the party last night. Someone dosed your juice with Wolf’s bane…”

My entire body froze, and my eyes grew wide.

“Wait… what?” I gasped.

She nodded, meeting my eyes; I could see the seriousness in her gaze.

“Yeah… you were drugged at the party, and the distress of it weakened your wolf and almost made you miscarry your baby,” she explained. My lips wobbled as I suppressed the tears. “Gavin found the waiter who drugged the drink, and well…” She motioned for the picture. “Something tells me the waiter didn’t make it.”

I felt sick to my stomach to the point where I thought I was going to throw up.

“Why would someone want to drug me?” My voice was coming out hoarse and unfamiliar.

“Taylor told me that they think it was because of Daisy Baldwin…” she explained, folding her arms across her chest.

“What does Daisy have to do with any of this?”

“She was the one who stole the Moon Gem and sent it to the auction. She got paid by Alpha Levi, but they think they bribed her in other ways as well…”

I put my hand on my belly.

“It was a condition…” I whispered. It wasn’t a question because I already knew what I was saying was factual. “She wanted both me and the baby gone… that was her condition for Levi. That’s why I’m here… It’s all their fault.”

“I’m so sorry,” Eliza said softly, lowering her gaze. “If I hadn’t come when I did…” Her voice trailed off, unable to finish that sentence.

“You saved me and my baby,” I said, looking up at her, tears glistening in my eyes. “Thank you…”

She wrapped her arms around me and hugged me tightly.

“Nobody is going to hurt you again. Levi was sloppy, and so were the rogues he used… he’s not going to hurt you again. He’s running out of options at this point…”

I nodded, hating that tears were burning in my eyes. I suddenly felt so tired and I lay back on the bed, exhausted from all the information I had received.

She gave me a soft smile and adjusted my pillows and blanket.

“Get some more rest,” she told me. “You’re still working all the drugs out of your system, so I know you are tired. When you wake, you’ll feel stronger, and your mate will be by your side.”

“Okay…” I told her softly.

Soon, she was leaving the room.

I hated that I couldn’t feel Gavin’s emotions through our bond; he was still blocking them from me, probably because he knew I was recovering, but I wondered if he could feel my emotions. I wanted to reach out to him and tell him that I loved him. I wanted him to hold me and tell me that everything was going to be okay.

I needed to be near my mate. But sleep overcame me, and I suddenly couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer.

When I slept, it was dreamless, though thoughts of Gavin covered in blood remained in my mind.

I wasn’t sure how long I had been sleeping for. I barely registered the sound of the door opening and shutting; the soft click jolting me slightly, but not enough to wake me entirely. I thought for a moment that it was Eliza. She mentioned locking the door earlier and that she only had access to open it unless she gave it to someone she trusted. But I don’t remember her locking the door when she left the last time.

My wolf stirred uncomfortably, which made me uncomfortable as well. A pit of anxiety formed in my chest as I opened my eyes slightly to see who my visitor was.

My heart stopped in my chest when I saw the person standing over me. I had to be seeing things; there was no way he was here… he was supposed to be banished and gone for good. But instead, he was standing over my hospital bed, with a darkened look in his eyes and a crazed expression marring his features.

“Ethan?” I asked, my voice coming out barely above a whisper. “W…What are you doing here?” There was a slight tremble in my words as I stared up at my ex-mate.

“I came back for you…” He said, his tone dripping with malice. “I came back for what is mine, and I’m not leaving unless you are with me.”

“What are you talking about?” I asked him, shaking my head. “I’m not yours anymore.”

He grinned, but it didn’t meet his eyes.

“That’s where you are wrong, Judy. You will always be mine, and I’m about to show you just how much I own you. But first…” he reached into his back pocket and took out a knife, a long silver blade that sparkled under the lighting and made my body shudder. “I’m going to correct a wrong… that baby shouldn’t have ever existed… it should be mine. Don’t worry, I’ll get you pregnant as soon as this one is gone.”

With that, he lunged at me, the blade aimed directly for my stomach.
