Chapter 4

Actually, during the day, I had already figured out why he drunkenly confessed the truth last night.

While handing over work to the deputy general manager at the company,

he told me that Raven Moonbane was back.

This deputy general manager was also our classmate and had joined the company from the very beginning.

So he knew a bit about the entanglement between the three of us.

Back then, Raven Moonbane had gone abroad, gotten married, and had children.

Now, she had divorced and returned alone.

So, Kieran Blackwood’s heart, which had been sealed away for so long, began stirring again.

And such deep, soul-stirring love…

was simply a luxury I could never afford.

For so many years, I had loved humbly yet foolishly believed it was enough.

Now, ending up like this… I had only myself to blame.

When I returned to my parents’ house and told them everything,

they fully supported me—after all, they had opposed this relationship and marriage from the very beginning.

Once everything was settled, I checked the time—it was almost midnight.

I took out my phone and posted on my social media:

"After midnight, a new beginning!"

The moment I posted it, my best friend called.

Her anxious voice came through the line:

"Babe, what happened?"

A warmth spread through my heart. "I’ve decided to get a divorce."

She burst into laughter, relieved.

"You finally figured it out! I was debating whether to tell you, but this afternoon, I saw Kieran Blackwood having dinner with Raven Moonbane. The way he looked at her, his every gesture—so tender, so affectionate. But it doesn’t matter anymore. From now on, embrace your beautiful new life!"

She spoke with so much enthusiasm, and I found myself smiling slightly while holding the phone.

I tilted my head back, gazing at the starry sky.

I couldn't remember the last time I had enjoyed such a peaceful moment.

Yet, in this silence, memories started creeping in.

My mind drifted back to our university days.

Back then, Kieran Blackwood was a spirited young man—

handsome, smart, admired by many girls.

But in his eyes, there was only Raven Moonbane.

At a sports event one year, Raven Moonbane fainted.

Despite being about to compete, Kieran Blackwood abandoned everything and carried her to the hospital.

For putting personal matters above the team, he was severely reprimanded by the teacher and received an official demerit.

Later, when Raven Moonbane left for abroad,

he drowned himself in a haze of alcohol and self-destruction.

And I was the one who stayed by his side through it all.

I remember when we first started the company—

once, after drinking too much at a business dinner, I ended up with a stomach bleed.

Shaking in pain, I called him.

But all he said was:

"I’m in the middle of an important client meeting, I can’t leave. Take a cab yourself."

In the end, it was the client who took me to the hospital.

Back then, I convinced myself that he was truly busy.

Now, I finally understood—he just didn’t care.

But it didn’t matter anymore. It was all in the past.

Out of habit, I scrolled through my social media before going to bed—

and saw Kieran Blackwood’s latest post.

A photo of him and Raven Moonbane, their faces almost touching.

The background?

The rose garden at our home—the very one I had personally planted.

The caption read:

"The beauty of Jiangnan never fades; in the season of falling petals, I meet you again."

So, while I was at the company handing over my responsibilities,

he had already taken Raven Moonbane home to admire the sea of flowers.

He rarely posted on social media.

Looking back at his past posts, the only ones from the past few years were about Raven Moonbane during our university days.

I used to naively believe that he was just a reserved person who didn’t like sharing online.

But now, I realized—

it was simply because there was never anyone or anything worth announcing to the world.
