Chapter 2
He was far too observant.
I'd barely opened the door, and already he'd noticed I wasn't acting like Hayley.
No wonder she always felt so uncomfortable around him.
I forced a smile. “Different how?”
He glanced at Logan as the motorcycle passed the driver's window. His faint smile cooled.
“You didn't look at him today.”
Whenever Logan came to pick me up, Hayley couldn't take her eyes off him.
I'd assumed her boyfriend somehow hadn't noticed.
Apparently, being older meant he knew how to keep his mouth shut.
“My supervisor chewed me out. I'm not in a great mood.”
Hayley was easily upset and careless with her work. Our supervisor reprimanded her often enough, and the rest of us had plenty to complain about.
Adrian suddenly leaned toward me, reaching for my neck.
I stopped breathing.
Had he figured it out? Was he going to strangle me?
His hand settled on my seat belt.
“Bad day or not, you still need to wear this properly.”
Controlling? He was being considerate.
I had to revise that opinion as soon as we got home.
He insisted I drink the little bottle of expensive protein shake he'd handed me.
“I can't right now. I'll have it in a minute.”
How embarrassing. My first ride in a car worth almost $180,000, and I'd gotten carsick.
My stomach wouldn't settle.
Adrian pressed the bottle into my hand. “Now.”
I didn't have the nerve to argue.
But as soon as I brought it to my mouth, I had to run for the bathroom, where I threw up again and again.
He stood in the doorway with his arms folded. In the mirror, I could see him watching me with a cold, searching expression.
“I've used a condom every time. How exactly did you get pregnant?”
