Chapter 5

Adrian stopped short at the sight of the four dishes.

“I thought you weren't feeling well. Why did you cook? Is there some occasion I've forgotten?”

It was the day my life started over.

No more parents and brother bleeding me dry. No more husband treating me as free labor.

From now on, every dollar I worked for would be mine.

On top of that, I was living in the beautiful house I'd always wanted, surrounded by appliances, furniture, and everyday things of a quality I'd never been able to afford.

My entire standard of living had changed.

None of which I could tell him.

“No occasion. I've been following a few cooking accounts. Thought I'd try some things.”

He liked the tangy pepper steak best, followed by the frittata, then the scrambled eggs.

He barely touched the tomato pasta.

After dinner, he volunteered to wash the dishes.

“I'm leaving early tomorrow on business. About a week. Pack me a few changes of clothes, would you?”

That I could do.

I'd put together every outfit Logan wore on camera, and everyone loved his clothes. Plenty of brands had approached him because of the way I styled him.

Then I opened Adrian's closet and stared.

So the quiet man had a secret side.

There were brightly colored thongs everywhere.

Sock garters, shirt stays, black stockings…

And a mess.

Not just the closet. The whole bedroom needed attention.

It looked exactly like a home where the man refused to hire a cleaner and the woman couldn't be bothered to tidy up.

Once I'd packed his things, I straightened the room and rearranged it a little.

Adrian worked in his study until midnight.

When he finally came to bed, I closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep.

Fresh from the shower, he pulled me into his arms and murmured against my ear.

“I'm leaving tomorrow. Aren't you going to give me something to remember tonight?”

I already knew he had a strong appetite for sex. Thinking about what might happen made me tremble with nerves.

I leaned weakly against him. “I still don't feel very well.”

He held me closer. “I'll be gone a whole week. Aren't you worried I'll go looking elsewhere?”

“No.”

If he'd wanted to, he'd have left that indiscreet idiot Hayley long ago.

He loved this curvy body and its flawless skin. Whatever else he might say, no one else would do.

He gave a low laugh. “I'm worried you'll get restless while I'm gone. Maybe I should wear you out before I leave.”

Recklessly, I answered, “Then do it. Don't just talk about it.”

His gaze darkened.

“You're asking for trouble.”
