Chapter 6
Every day, Hayley came in glowing and told me how wonderfully romantic life with Logan was.
“Your husband's so strong! He can do fifteen push-ups with me on his back.”
“His abs feel amazing. Sitting on him is like sitting on a spring mattress. I barely had to move to come.”
With Logan, imagination did most of that work.
Once the novelty wore off, she'd discover how frustrating it was to have something pretty that didn't work.
When I failed to react, she started criticizing my old body.
“What's wrong with your figure? You're flat where you should be round and round where you should be flat. Your skin isn't as nice as mine, either.”
“Logan's such a good guy. He doesn't even mind.”
Who said he didn't mind?
He just didn't say it to my face. Behind my back, he had plenty of complaints.
He'd tried more than once to write his own scripts and edit his own videos so he could get rid of me.
The results were terrible. That was why he still bothered to humor me.
From Logan, Hayley moved on to Adrian.
“That old man's married to his job. No chest, no abs. His face is barely good enough, and he never stops scowling. Must be miserable having him on top of you.”
I was enjoying myself, actually.
Stamina, skill, everything. He was better than Logan in every way except muscle definition.
But what mattered to me was a man's ability to earn a living and take responsibility.
What good was a perfect body if he never spent a penny on me or cared how hard I worked?
Logan only took from me and ordered me around.
Adrian's main drawback was his unpredictable temper.
I'd put up with a boss's moods anywhere I worked. This one paid exceptionally well.
That morning alone, he'd sent three separate transfers of $7,500.
Against actual money, Logan's sweet talk wasn't worth much.
Hayley came from a comfortable family. She'd never had to worry about money and had no idea how much it mattered.
Someday, she would.
