Chapter 2

“Speaking of which, I really do owe a thank you to our young master Cornell Bessie.”

“If not for him, I wouldn’t have had the chance to join the Barnard family at all.”

Just thinking about how I used to act subserviently in front of these two people.

Omar Jodi felt a surge of evil desire in his heart, and he felt incredibly pleased.

When his gaze shifted to the still-attrACTIVE figure of the middle-aged woman, his eyes became extremely lecherous:

“Madam Lu…”

“Anyway, this old fool won’t live past today. Why not do us a favor and let your brothers have some fun?”

“It’s also good so that your husband can enjoy a last sight before dying, and leave this world in peace, haha!”

Omar Jodi smiled wickedly and waved his hand. The dozen or so strong men behind him became restless.

Seeing this scene, the middle-aged woman was terrified, her face turning pale. She said tremblingly:

“What… what do you want to do?”

Just then, a cold and merciless voice suddenly echoed throughout every corner of the hall:

“Those who refuse to retreat will be killed without mercy!”

The moment the sound arose, Omar Jodi and the others couldn’t help but react, shivering involuntarily.

They hurriedly turned their heads to see who it was behind them.

However, everyone found that their bodies were completely frozen in place, unable to move even the tips of their fingers.

At this moment, it seemed as though some ancient and ferocious beast had emerged from the depths of time!

A pervasive sense of murderous intent filled the quaintly decorated hall, sending chills down everyone’s spine.

Immediately afterwards, Omar Jodi and the others saw a blur before their eyes. A tall figure appeared beside the unconscious Ron Bessie in an instant.

It was a young man wearing a black trench coat, with a handsome and delicate appearance.

Her complexion was simply too pale, as though she had been ill for a long time without recovery. She seemed rather frail and weak.

Seeing that the newcomer was alone, Omar Jodi’s courage returned immediately. He crossed his arms and shouted:

“What kind of person are you, anyway?”

“What audacity! How dare you meddle in Grandpa’s affairs!”

“Believe it or not, I can beat the crap out of you and throw you into the river to feed the fish!”

To his threats, the handsome young man crouched on the ground turned a deaf ear.

He reached out and massaged Ron Bessie several times. Ron immediately expelled two mouthfuls of foul air, then slowly regained consciousness.

“Dad, Mom, I’m late…”

Jim Milne looked up and met the old couple’s eyes, his expression filled with pain and self-reproach.

"You... you’re Jim?"

Upon recognizing the familiar face before her, foster mother Agnes O’Neill’s eyes widened in shock, and she gasped:

“Child, is it really you?”

After a moment of distraction, his adoptive father, Ron Bessie, became visibly emotional. His old face trembled as he firmly shook Jim Milne’s hand:

“Jim… you’re finally back!”

At that moment, the old man looked at Jim Milne as if he were seeing light after a long absence.

It’s like a glimmer of hope that breaks through the darkness in the heart.

But soon after, his expression turned somber, and his tone became extremely depressed:

“Good child, it’s a pity you’ve come back at the wrong time.”

“At home, at home, it’s already…”

Jim Milne shook his head slightly, interrupting his adoptive father:

“Dad, you don’t need to say anything more. I already know everything.”

“All things have Me!”

Looking at his adoptive father, whose hair was now graying on the sides, Jim Milne’s eyes twitched slightly, and the tip of his nose stung with emotion.

Feelings welled up from the bottom of my heart, filled with heartache and sorrow.

I came back too late on my own. If I’d realized earlier, everything would have been different…

But in reality, Jim Milne himself had his own unspeakable hardships.

After all, during these ten years of military service, he could no longer remember how many times he had been in life-or-death situations.

Not only do they have to face the enemy’s gunfire, but sometimes they also suffer from hidden attacks from various forces.

A single wrong step and one will fall into a place from which there’s no return.

For self-preservation, and also to protect my family.

The hardships and honors he endured were all his own burden, never shared with his adoptive parents or elder brother, Cornell Bessiti.

We only occasionally call each other during holidays, exchanging a few words about everyday life.

But precisely because of this, after the great disaster befallen the Bessie family, what their adoptive parents thought of first was to protect their adopted son.

The two elders refused to reveal even the slightest detail about their current difficulties, all to protect Jim Milne from being implicated.

Had it not been for a completely coincidental turn of events, Jim Milne would never have learned of his elder brother Cornell Bessie’s tragic death.

Presumably, he is still stationed in the North Cold Region, completely unaware of the tragic events taking place back home.

Putting aside all his thoughts, Jim Milne suddenly stood up, his gaze sharp as a knife.

He slowly scanned the people before him, eventually stopping his gaze on Omar Jodi, who was at the head of the group.

“I remember you.”

“You’re Omar Jodi, right? You used to be my older brother’s deputy.”

Omar Jodi was startled upon hearing this. He narrowed his eyes and examined the situation carefully before finally realizing what had happened.

“Who could it be?”

“So that’s the bastard the Bessie family adopted all those years ago.”

“After not seeing each other for so many years, you still come back to meet your death at this critical moment. Do you really think you have a long life ahead of you?”

Jim Milne’s lips curled into a cold smirk, his handsome face revealing a murderous intent.

The words he spoke slowly were like a heavy hammer, shaking everyone’s heart deeply:

“I believe starting from today…”

“It’s time for a change of weather in Birmingham too.”

“The first one to be sacrificed to the heavens is you, Omar Jodi!”

What?

Want to use Laozi as an offering to the heavens?

Did this guy get hit on the head by a donkey?

Upon hearing this, Omar Jodi, with a wild expression on his face, first looked stunned, then burst into laughter.

The people around them also burst into laughter, as if they had heard the most absurd thing in the world.

"You brat, recognize your own identity!”

“Still think you’re some little lord of the Bessie family?”

“I tell you, even if Cornell Bessie were to rise from the dead and stand here right now, he’d still have to call me ‘boss’!”

Omar Jody’s tone was utterly arrogant. He stretched out his hand and pointed at Jim Milne’s nose, shouting loudly.

He remembered that this good-for-nothing adopted son of the Bessie family had apparently joined the army.

If it were about achieving something significant, perhaps Omar Jodi would be a bit more cautious.

But now, look at his subordinate’s appearance…

Dressed in casual clothes, his face was eerily pale, resembling a sickly man waiting for death.

And there wasn’t even a decent medal on his chest. How could he possibly be some important person?

Omar Jodi became more and more pleased with himself, letting out loud, unrestrained laughter.

At his command, those thugs, armed with steel pipes and machetes, rushed towards Jim Milne at once.

With the enemy outnumbering his forces, Jim Milne refused to back down or even lift his eyelids.

“Omar Jodi, you owe my elder brother your gratitude for his support…”

“I remember that Jody Enterprises was on the verge of bankruptcy. It was only thanks to my adoptive father’s generous support that the company was able to survive and thrive as it does today.”

Jim Milne’s tone was utterly calm, as if he were having a casual conversation with an old friend.

“So what?”

“On the verge of death, still dwelling on old, trivial matters.”

Realizing his guilt, Omar Jodi glared and shouted, “Brothers, chop him to pieces!”

Amidst the chaos, no one noticed.

Jim Milne, who had been standing there calmly and composedly, suddenly raised his hand slowly.
