Chapter 5

In this auction of Bessie Castle, the Barnard family certainly invested a lot of effort to promote it.

Everywhere inside, the decorations are gorgeous and beautifully arranged.

It was not only an auction, but also a grand party for Birmingham’s upper-class society.

Looking around, the men and women coming and going were all dressed in luxurious attire and carried themselves with pride. They were all important people.

While the auction hadn’t officially started yet.

Whether they know each other or not, people gather in groups of three or five.

With just a few words and in a lighthearted manner, huge exchanges of value, amounting to hundreds of millions, were accomplished.

Throughout the entire banquet hall, their lively conversations and laughter echoed everywhere, creating a very lively atmosphere.

In contrast, Jim Milne, sitting alone in the corner, seemed somewhat out of place.

He held a glass of red wine in his hand, gazing out the window in thought, drinking alone.

Although no one was around him, Jim Milne had already quietly caught the attention of many guests.

At first, some people thought it was some handsome young man brought along by some powerful official.

But after closer examination, everyone gave up these childish and ridiculous ideas.

The reason lies in the unique temperament that Jim Milne possesses.

Those who don’t hold high positions for long or possess overwhelming power certainly don’t have such dignity.

“Hey, handsome guy, are you here by yourself?”

Finally, someone couldn’t hold back any longer. With a coquettish smile, they stepped forward to strike up a conversation.

Jim Milne glanced over and saw a young woman with elegant attire and a beautiful face. There was a hint of arrogance in her eyes and expression.

“Are you interested in having a drink with your older sister?”

Reyna Daniel parted her red lips slightly, exuding a delicate fragrance as she spoke in what she thought was a seductive voice.

As one of Birmingham’s famous beauties, she has plenty of confidence.

I’m sure I can trick this handsome man into falling for my trap, so I can win the bet with my sisters.

Who knew that Jim Milne simply raised his glass to his lips and said:

“Do as you please.”

Then, he turned his head away again, staring out the window once more, without even giving her a glance.

Such cold treatment filled Rena Daniel with rage, her eyebrows knitting together in fury.

What kind of joke is this?

This young lady merely needs to wave her finger, and countless men will fall at her feet.

To invite you for a drink is already a great honor for you. How dare you ignore me?

Who do you think you are, kid?

Reyna Daniel’s expression immediately darkened, and she snapped angrily:

“You really have no sense of manners at all!”

“What’s wrong with having you join me for a drink? Any man would refuse a lady’s request like that?”

Her beautiful eyes glared hatefully at Jim Milne, as if fire were about to burst from them.

However, Jim Milne remained completely motionless, like a wooden statue. He said indifferently:

“I have no habit of drinking with others, nor do I feel obligated to do so.”

Even when speaking, he didn’t bother to glance at Rena Daniel, as if she were completely invisible.

The more Rena Daniel listened, the angrier she became. The whispers and snickers around her only served to make her feel more embarrassed.

"You... how dare you!"

Reena Daniel pointed at Jim Milne angrily and shrieked,

“Nobody has ever dared to look down on this young lady like this before!”

“Don’t you recognize who I am?”

Renata Daniel was so furious that she could hardly believe it.

You know, the Daniel family is considered a prominent and influential family in Birmingham.

She grew up in a pampered environment, surrounded by adoration from everyone around her.

Plus, she was quite attractive. Every man she met treated her with great respect and care.

Just tonight, I had to run into such a stinky and unpleasant guy.

“I don’t know, and I’m not interested either.”

However, Jim Milne’s calm response only made her more frantic:

“Have you heard of the Daniel Group? Its chairman, Charles Daniel, is my father!”

“You worthless wretch.”

The harsh words made Jim Milne frown slightly.

He slowly turned his head, finally meeting the other person’s gaze for the first time.

But with just one glance at those cold, heartless eyes, Rena Daniel felt a chill sweep through her heart, and she instinctively stepped back a few steps.

At this moment, a long-awaited “guardian of flowers” finally arrived.

“Xiaoyan, what happened?”

This person had fair skin and delicate features. Dressed in a flashy purple suit, he asked Rena Daniel with concern.

Reyna Daniel glanced at him and instantly recognized his identity.

It turned out to be Myron Hope, the second young master of the Hope family, who was also one of her subordinates.

Although I’ve never really liked his persistent and annoying way of pursuing people.

However, due to the two companies’ long-term cooperative relationship, she had to maintain an appropriate distance from them.

Neither overly distant nor overly friendly.

“Nothing much, just in a bad mood.”

Reyna Daniel lowered her head and managed to give a weak explanation.

Yet Myron Hope raised his eyebrows and insisted loudly:

"Xiaoyan, don’t make yourself suffer!"

“I saw it all. It’s clear that this kid is bullying you!”

In fact, he had been there all along, witnessing the entire event.

Once again, they timed their moves perfectly, stepping in just in time to right the wrongs.

It allows one to win the heart of the one they love, while also showing off in public.

Such a win-win strategy really made Myron Hope feel quite pleased with himself.

Mylon Hope approached Jim Milne with a cold expression, speaking in a haughty tone:

“You really don’t know what’s good for you!”

“Open your eyes wide and take a look at who’s standing in front of you!”

“Those who know what’s good for them will kneel down on their own and apologize to Xiaoya!”

Jim Milne turned a deaf ear to it. He simply raised his glass slowly, took a sip, and remained completely calm.

Seeing this, Myron Hope became furious. He slammed the table loudly:

“Arrogant! I’d like to see just how formidable you are, to dare act recklessly here!”

It wasn’t until then that Jim Milne put down his glass, curled his lips slightly, and smiled faintly:

“Oh?”

Myron Hope had a vicious expression on his face as he continued to threaten menacingly:

“Kid, do you believe it or not!”

“Can I really prevent you from living through tonight?”

“I’ve got the skills to make someone disappear without a trace in Birmingham.”

Watching Jim Milne remain silent, Rena Daniel, who was standing by, felt a sense of satisfaction.

She crossed her arms and sneered from above:

“I’m just giving you a friendly reminder. I advise you to be aware of your own status and not try to be tough when you shouldn’t.”

“Otherwise, I’m afraid death will be very unpleasant.”

After a moment of silence, Jim Milne let out a soft sigh.

For the first time, he stood up and smiled at the two of them.

“Make me kowtow and admit my mistake?”

“I’m afraid you’re not capable of taking on this responsibility.”

“I advise you to confess your mistakes to me sooner rather than later. Otherwise, even if you kneel down and call me ‘dad’, I won’t let you go!”

“Since I’m not in a particularly bad mood right now, I’ll give you one minute. Don’t say I didn’t give you a chance!”

“By the way, you seem to be the first person in history to make such a demand of me. No one has ever made me kneel before!”

“Alright, I’ve changed my mind. You’d better come up with a reason to let you go today. Otherwise, don’t even think about walking out of this door alive!”
