Chapter 8
“Still worried about the ConocoPhillips matter?” Upon returning to the room, Wayne Sosie noticed that Diana Nora seemed gloomy and asked her what was wrong.
“Sigh…”
Diana Nora let out a soft sigh. Deep worry was evident on her beautiful face. She didn’t blame Wayne Sosie for urging her to accept this negotiation with the Confidd Consortium. Even if Wayne Sosie hadn’t advised her, Harvey Nora would have found some way to force her to agree anyway.
“Don’t worry. Someone like my wife, who combines beauty and talent, will definitely succeed right away!” Wayne Sosie laughed heartily and patted his chest confidently.
“Where on earth do you get your confidence from?” Diana Nora frowned, looking at Wayne Sosie with suspicion. To be honest, she herself had no confidence at all.
“Hehe… I have my own clever plans. Don’t ask anymore. Get some rest tonight and regain your strength!” Wayne Sosie smiled mysteriously, looking very confident.
Diana Nora looked at Wayne Sosie with suspicion. She suddenly couldn’t understand her husband, who she had been with day and night. Ever since Grandma’s birthday party, Wayne Sosie seemed like a completely different person. Every move he made exuded confidence.
But Diana Nora didn’t think much of it. At that moment, her mind was preoccupied with worrying about tomorrow’s meeting with the Confidd Consortium. She had no interest or energy to delve into Wayne Sosie’s strange behavior.
The next morning, after getting dressed, Diana Nora came out of the bathroom. She glanced at Wayne Sosie, who was busy in the kitchen preparing breakfast for her. A faint smile appeared on her lips.
“Today, take me to the Confidd Consortium, please.” Diana Nora’s words left Wayne Sosie utterly flattered. For a moment, he just stood there, smiling foolishly.
Before long, Wayne Sosie rode his small electric scooter, taking Diana Nora with him, to the entrance of the Confir Corporation building. Diana Nora stared at the towering Confir Building, trying to suppress the chaotic thoughts of anxiety in her mind. She clenched her fists and waved them, as if ready to go to battle.
Wayne Sosie couldn’t help but laugh at Diana Nora’s determined and yet adorable expression.
“Don’t worry, as long as I’m around, no one will ever bully you! Go ahead, you can do it. I believe you’ll definitely succeed!”
Feeling Wayne Sosie’s sincere comfort, Diana Nora couldn’t help but feel warmth in her heart. She nodded gently.
With a nervous heart, Diana Nora stepped into the elevator of the Conferco Building. To be honest, she had no confidence at all in this business meeting. All she could do was do her best and leave the rest to fate.
“Oh, Diana Nora, what are you doing here?”
Just then, a surprised, delicate cry suddenly interrupted Diana Nora’s thoughts. Diana Nora turned her head in confusion, only to see a woman with heavy makeup before her eyes.
The woman was dressed in expensive and luxurious attire, as though she were going to a fancy party. She had her face heavily and elaborately made up. At that moment, she was examining herself with a critical eye.
“You’re… Anna Hilda?” Diana Nora was somewhat surprised. She hadn’t expected to meet Anna Hilda there.
Anna Hilda and Diana Nora were classmates in college. After graduation, they went their separate ways. Later, it was learned that Anna Hilda entered the entertainment industry and received some support. Although she isn’t yet a superstar, she’s considered a promising young actress with potential.
“Hehe, old classmate, I never thought we’d be so connected. By the way, there’s a class reunion tonight. Everyone will be there. It’s been so long since we last got together. You definitely need to come too!”
Anna Hilda let out a dry, indifferent laugh. A look of disdain flashed in her eyes as she stared at Diana Nora’s beautiful face. Back in college, Anna Hilda was inferior to Diana Nora in every way, which meant the title of “campus beauty” went to Diana Nora instead. This filled the vain Anna Hilda with resentment, and she had harbored hatred for Diana Nora ever since.
“Ah? A class reunion? I’ve been quite busy lately, so I think I’ll pass.” Upon hearing Anna Hilda’s invitation, Diana Nora was momentarily stunned, before politely declining without letting it show.
Since marrying Wayne Sosie, Diana Nora has stopped attending such gatherings altogether. She knew that people would make fun of her marriage, so she preferred to avoid those situations altogether, rather than endure the humiliation.
“Heh, I think those are just excuses. Who doesn’t know you married a worthless husband? What’s the problem? You know it’s embarrassing, so you dare not go, right?” Anna Hilda was already certain that Diana Nora would refuse. She immediately spoke out in mockery.
Diana Nora frowned slightly, feeling a bit displeased. But since she didn’t want to explain anything at the moment, she simply chose to remain silent.
Yet Anna Hilda, unable to resist taking advantage of her position, continued to mock her, saying, “Back in school, you thought you were so important and influential. But now, look at how low you’ve fallen. How pitiful!”
“I’m different. Nowadays, I’m a popular young actress. Countless companies are eager to have me endorse their products. For example, the ConocoPhillips consortium invited me to be their brand ambassador. I’m here today to sign the contract. From the way you look, you’re not here to look for a job, are you? If you really are looking for work, then, out of our old schoolmates’ friendship, I might be able to say a few kind words on your behalf and help you out.”
The speaker speaks without intention, but the listener hears with intent.
Although Diana Nora understood that Anna Hilda said those things merely to belittle her and elevate herself, Diana Nora wasn’t a pretentious or artificial woman. If she could really use Anna Hilda’s connections to facilitate things with the Confidd Consortium, why not?
“I really want to discuss some small business collaborations with the Consortium. Anna, if you could help facilitate things, I’d be extremely grateful!” Diana Nora pleaded sincerely.
Upon hearing this, Anna Hilda wore a smug smile and said, “I’m the brand ambassador for the ConocoPhillips Corporation. I interact with the company’s top executives. This is just a trivial little collaboration for me—it’s nothing significant at all!”
Upon hearing this, Diana Nora’s eyes lit up. It seemed she really had good luck today!
“But if I’m to help you, it won’t be that simple. It depends on how you behave! Here’s what I suggest… There’s a class reunion tonight. Bring your husband along too. He absolutely has to come!” Anna Hilda smirked, looking at Diana Nora, who appeared full of anticipation.
Upon hearing this, Diana Nora immediately looked embarrassed. She knew full well that Anna Hilda still hadn’t given up the chance to mock her. But since she needed Anna’s help, she couldn’t refuse.
“Ding dong!”
Just then, the elevator arrived at the top floor of the Confid Consortium Building. As the doors opened, Vivian Warner and her subordinates could be seen rushing toward them from afar.
Anna Hilda grew even more pleased upon seeing this. She pointed at Vivian Warner in the distance, then turned to Diana Nora and said, “See? The top executives of the Confidd Consortium came personally to greet me!” With that, she walked over to Vivian Warner with enthusiasm.
Seeing this situation, Diana Nora felt a bit inferior and thought she was unnecessary there. She turned around and headed straight for the guest room.
