Chapter 2 Mate

CALEB’S POV

Today was the unfortunate day of my life, because the one about whom I always wished and dream to kill was now going to shake hands with him to protect each other in case of attacks of the rogues. My beta and gamma accompanied me to this visit and they were also hating the council for imposing this deal on us, bounding us to put our hatred on side and help each other just because rogues were taking advantage of this.

‘Man, how should have practiced fake smile at home’ seeing my straight face my beta Ethan mocked me, I glared at his not so funny joke.

‘You better learn cracking the good jokes, it was the worst’ I retort back at him, Noah enjoying our fight.

‘Come on. You have reached to their land and there is now no going back just plastered a fake smile on your face, it will put a good impression on them’ I rolled my eyes.

‘Who cares about the impression here?’ our conversation through mind link was going on when I was struck with the strong fragrance of sweet Vanilla and rose, Kaden got charges up.

‘Mate’ he whispered and my eyes widened in shock. My mate from Greenwood Pack, seriously? While I was in the state of shock and disappointment the door opened revealing the young girl with Oberon’s mate and I presume that this young girl was the source of the fragrance, because as she was coming close to us the scent was getting stronger. I shut my eyes in rage and composed myself, I did not have a time and had to make a quick decision.

Oberon Thornton was once a best friend of my father Alexander Donovan, my father trusted his friend blindly and it costed him his life, as Oberon was a snake who bit my father with his venom. He attacked our pack when we were not expecting any battle and in order to keep his pack and family safe my father sacrificed his life because he thought it was his fault to believe this man hence he should suffer and that day at age of thirteen I lost my father and my mom lost her mate.

Losing your mate is not easy to bear but my mom endures this pain for me for sake of this pack my dad gave up his life and defeated Oberon due to which he was unable to take over our land, what a greedy bastard he was. Once he was proud of his strength and now when his pack has weakened he was looking for support from neighbor packs, I would have burnt down the council if it wasn’t for my mom who forced me to agree with the idea of supporting each other in this crucial time.

The person I hated my whole teenage life and waited for the right time when I can take the revenge but my hands were tied with the rope of forced deal and to checking my patience level, my mate has to be the daughter of that bastard, wow! What a joke life has played with me, I quickly glanced at the ceiling of the room quietly complaining about their decision on choosing my mate.

I sighed, the decision was made. I know Kaden will hate me for my decision but I have to take this step. I think I have got the opportunity to take my revenge in another way.

I turned my head to look at Oberon, whose face was stern and his eyes held so much disgust while looking at his own daughter.

‘She is your elder daughter, Oberon?’ I asked from him, trying to confirm that they aren’t making fool of me by bringing someone else in here claiming their daughter, because when I arrived, he was standing with his mate and son to welcome me. No matter how much irk I was about coming here but I was aware of the fact that he has the daughter which is first born and might take over his title, because his son still has a time and based on this I wanted to meet the future Alpha of this pack.

My head turned to glance at the girl who has a good height, I appreciated it, as our eyes met I could hear the mate word coming out form our mouth and Oberon stood up from his place in surprise of whatever he thoughts came in his mind, I don’t care, because I was busy in watching my beautiful mate, she was wearing a sweat shirt which make her look cute but her long legs were visible due to the shorts and despite I was liking the reveal of smooth, milky skin of her, other also having the chance to see this beauty made me enraged. Did she really come down from her room in this dress?

‘Our mate is beautiful Caleb, don’t act like a fool by rejecting her. I connected to her wolf and she is such a sweet soul’ Kaden popped up in my mind making me to roll my eyes.

‘Don’t worry, I won’t do that’ I can see the blush on her fair skin, her brown orbs were taking glimpse of me after every few seconds.

‘Alpha Caleb, sorry for my confusion but did you called my daughter your mate?’ Oberon doesn’t look happy, I can see the delight on the faces of my beta and gamma. Her being the daughter of our enemy does not affected their excitement to find their Luna.

‘Yes, Alpha Oberon. Your daughter is my mate. Can I know your name?’ I asked with straight face. If she wasn’t the daughter of Oberon or if Oberon hadn’t killed my father. I would be happiest man on earth right now to find out his mate and specially for such a beautiful mate, but my situation is bit complicated and I can’t welcome her in my life like other wolfs do

‘Lilith’ once again our eyes met and I can see so many emotions simultaneously expressing themselves through her eyes.

‘If that is the case, I am afraid Alpha you have to reject her’ Oberon’s words struck me like a storm and I can see the shock and sadness on my mate’s face as well, soon tears were pooled up in her eyes and ready to fall out.

‘And why would I do that? Or shall I say why should I do that?’ I stood up from the couch getting close, coming face to face with Oberon, his jaw was clenched tightly.

‘She is nothing but a shame for us and will become for you. She is a weak wolf who cannot shift and in current situation where we have threats of rogue attacks your pack needs a strong Luna who can fight beside you. The deals we are signing requires us to become strong and not weak.’ I narrowed my eyes to see my mate quietly crying, tears were rolling down on her cheeks and she was covering her mouth to not let her sobbing escape from her mouth, seeing her in this vulnerable state my wolf growled and I lost the control.

‘Mind your language Oberon, you are talking about my mate and not your daughter here’ my hand was around his collar within a second leaving everyone out there in shock, since I knew that Kaden is currently controlling my emotions and what I was saying right now was only what Kaden thinks and wanted so I was not astonished like the others in the room including my mate.
