Chapter 6 The Party Disaster
ALEXA POV
The loud moans finally stopped. The sitting room became quiet. I stayed in my room for a long time, listening. When everything stayed silent, I opened my door slowly and stepped out.
My stomach was growling. I needed water and something to eat. I walked toward the kitchen, trying not to make any noise.
Ryder was sitting on the kitchen counter. He wore only black shorts. No shirt. His tattoos looked dark under the kitchen light. He held a bottle of water in his hand and took a slow drink. His hair was messy, and his body still looked a little sweaty.
I went to the fridge quietly, took out a bottle of water and a small snack, and turned to leave. But something made me stop. I turned back to face him.
“Can you not do that again here?” I asked.
Ryder smirked. He didn’t say anything. He just looked at me like I was funny.
My anger grew. “You know you have a room. The sitting room belongs to both of us. Bringing a girl there and… messing with her is inappropriate. I won’t accept it.”
He scoffed. The sound made me even angrier. It looked like my words amused him too much.
“This is my dorm,” he said calmly. “I can do whatever I want. If you have a problem, the door is always open. You can leave.”
He jumped down from the counter and started walking away.
“Bastard,” I muttered under my breath.
He stopped. Then he turned around slowly. His face became very cold. He started moving closer to me.
“What did you just call me?” he asked, his voice low.
“Don’t come closer to me,” I said fearfully, stepping back. But he kept coming.
“You don’t really know your place, rookie,” he said.
“You have talked shit to me more than anyone has done in years.” He added coldly as her continue to move back until my back hit the wall, I am trapped yet again in his arm.
He got even closer. I quickly put my hand on his chest to stop him. My palm touched his warm skin. His abs were hard under my fingers. I felt them flex. A hot blush spread across my face. I couldn’t control it.
Ryder noticed. He smirked darkly and moved even closer. His body heat reached me. I could smell his skin and the faint smell of the girl’s perfume still on him.
Then his phone started ringing.
He stopped. His expression changed completely when he saw the screen. The dark smirk disappeared. His jaw tightened. He didn’t answer the call. He just turned around and walked out of the kitchen without saying another word.
I stood there, my hand still in the air where his chest had been. My heart was beating very fast. My face still felt hot. I looked down at my hand, remembering how his skin felt.
I hated him. I really hated him.
But why did my body react like that when I touched him? I shook my head hard and went back to my room. I closed the door and sat on the bed. The snack in my hand suddenly didn’t taste good anymore.
This roommate situation was going to drive me crazy.
…….
I stared at myself in the mirror for the hundredth time. My short hair was messy in a boyish way. I adjusted my cap again and pulled down the loose hoodie. My binder felt tight against my chest. I turned left and right, checking if anything looked wrong. My hands were shaking a little. I was super nervous.
What if someone noticed? What if I did something stupid and everyone found out I was a girl?
I took a deep breath and walked out of my room. I asked a few students for directions and finally found the club. The music was loud even from outside. I pushed the door open.
My eyes widened in shock.
The inside was crazy. Students filled every corner. Some were dancing wildly, grinding against each other on the dance floor. Others were making out openly on couches, not caring that people could see them. Lights flashed everywhere. The smell of alcohol and smoke hung heavy in the air.
No one noticed me. I stood there feeling small, like I should just disappear. I wanted to turn around and run back to the dorm.
Then someone touched my shoulder. I jumped and turned fast. It was Freddie. He had a big smile on his face.
“You came,” he said happily.
I smiled back, feeling relieved. “Yeah.”
“Let’s find somewhere to sit,” he said.
We found a small table in the corner and sat down. I looked around, trying to get used to the loud music and wild energy. Suddenly the door opened again. Three girls walked in. Everyone’s attention turned to them immediately. The girl in the middle had a big smirk on her face. She moved like she owned the place.
“Who are they?” I asked curiously.
Freddie looked at me like I was crazy. “Are you telling me you don’t know Lila Harrington? She’s the top star in gymnastics and cheerleading.”
“I don’t know,” I muttered.
“Her mother owns eighty percent of the shares in this university,” Freddie said quietly. “And her brother Marcus Harrington is the Dean. She basically controls everything here.”
I stared at Lila again. She smiled sweetly at people who greeted her, but something about her eyes felt cold.
“She looks nice,” I said.
“Who knows,” Freddie muttered.
Before I could ask what he meant, the door opened again. Ryder walked in with his arm wrapped around a girl. It wasn’t the same girl from earlier. Everyone started chanting “Captain! Captain!” Ryder just smiled at them and went to sit on a big couch. The girl sat on his lap. He pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and started smoking. Smoke filled the air around him.
I didn’t realize I was staring until our eyes met across the room. He smirked at me. I quickly gave him my middle finger and looked away.
Then I finally saw Blake.
He was standing in a corner, talking and laughing with a group of friends. My heart beat faster. He looked so comfortable and handsome. I watched him for a long time. Soon his friends left and he was alone.
This was my chance. I would tell him the truth. I trusted him. He would keep my secret and protect me.
“I will be back,” I told Freddie and stood up before he could ask questions.
I started walking toward Blake. My hands felt sweaty. My steps were fast. Just as I got closer, a girl suddenly ran into his arms. I stopped on my track. My eyes widened in shock.
Blake smiled at her, the same warm smile I remembered from high school. He slowly leaned down. Their mouths met and they started kissing hotly, right there in front of everyone.
I just stood there. My legs felt weak. I couldn’t feel them anymore. The music was still loud, people were still dancing and laughing, but everything around me became quiet. My chest hurts. I couldn’t breathe properly.
Blake was kissing her. Deeply. Like he really liked her.
All the hope I had a few seconds ago disappeared. I had wanted to tell him everything. I had imagined he would help me. But now I saw the truth. He had his own life here. He had moved on.
I turned around slowly and walked back to Freddie. My eyes felt hot. I blinked hard, trying not to cry. Freddie was still sitting there, watching the party.
I sat down quietly. The smile I had earlier was completely gone.
Freddie looked at me. “You okay?”
I nodded, but I wasn’t. Not really. This party was supposed to be fun. But right now, it just reminded me how alone I still was in this place.
