Chapter 2
I stunned。
How could he be so self-righteous?
After I exposed him, he still acted as though he were generously offering me his love from a high pedestal.
I struggled to get up, grabbed a cup of water from the table, and threw it at him.
He didn't avoid it.
The cup hit his forehead, causing blood to flow instantly.
"Are you done making a scene, Anja?"
"For ten years, I've been taking care of you, and as they say, no child is dutiful in front of a sickbed. Can't you allow me to complain a little?"
"You..." I was about to say something more when the door opened.
Stephen walked in, wearing Vito's white shirt.
There were several clear red marks on her neck.
Everything before me went black, and I stared at them, unable to look away.
"Stephen, how did you get hurt?"
Stephen rushed to Vito's side, panic written all over her face, eyes full of concern.
"It's fine, just a small injury, nothing serious."
Vito smiled at Stephen, even adjusting her clothes affectionately, naturally and intimately.
My heart twisted in pain.
"Anja, how much more do you want? Hasn't Vito been good enough to you?"
"He’s taken care of you for ten years, has been dragged down by you for ten years. He's been more than generous."
"Not only are you physically disabled, but mentally too. Do you have to drag everyone into hell with you to be satisfied?"
Stephen stood in front of Vito, crying and shouting at me, as though I were some wicked person tormenting them.
I instinctively looked at Vito. From start to finish, he made no move to stop Stephen.
So, this was his true feelings.
Maybe he even appreciated Stephen for saying it out loud?
What a joke!
I, Anja, am nothing but a joke.
A complete, utter joke.
Seeing me crying and laughing, looking completely mad, Vito frowned.
He pulled Stephen behind him, always on guard against me.
"Calm down. I hope you think about me too. These years have been exhausting for me, so I..."
Exhausted?
Was he really more exhausted than I was?
He, a poor boy from an ordinary family, managed to rise to his current position—didn’t he rely on the capital left by my parents?
He was thriving, adored by everyone, and now his only regret was having me as a burden.
I laughed hysterically.
"You're exhausted? I lost my legs for you, and I’m stuck in a wheelchair for life!"
"My parents also handed the company over to you, made you the heir, and you dare say you're tired?"
Vito’s temples bulged.
"Enough!"
He couldn't bear to hear those words.
He hated being called out for relying on my parents to make his fortune.
Even though, deep down, it was true.
After inheriting the company from my parents, he changed the company name shortly after they passed.
Perhaps to cover his tracks, he ridiculously renamed it Walls Corporation.
At the time, he explained to me that too many people had accused him of living off me, so he made the change.
I understood him, sympathized with him, and, of course, didn’t argue.
Suddenly, Vito stepped forward and grabbed my collar, his face twisted with anger.
"I admit, I like Stephen now, but I never made the decision to abandon you."
"The wedding will still go on next week as planned. You can rest easy. I’ll take care of you until the end."
At that moment, my phone rang again.
I glanced at it.
It was a message from eighteen-year-old Vito.
"Anja, why haven’t you replied? Is something wrong?"
Seeing this message, my tears fell like rain.
I was about to forget, but the Vito from before, filled with love for me, was no more.
Now, all he had left for me was responsibility.
I had become his burden.
