Chapter 32

Caleb

“You came for me.” It was like she knew I needed her, like she knew what I wanted even more than I did.

“Not yet. I’m counting on you to do that.” She smiled seductively in her lingerie, one of the nighties she had gotten when she first came to Red Moon Pack.

She lifted up the skirt of the lingerie with an innocent smile, and she showed me her round, perky ass peeking out from under the slip.

“Oh God,” I sighed.

“Oopsie.” When she began to pull the skirt back down, I came up behind her and hiked it back up. I massaged her bare ass with my hands, and my dick was irrepressibly hard. It rose up and got so engorged it held up the skirt for me.

I pressed my hard-on against her, sliding lightly at the edge of her ass. I could feel my precum leaving a snail’s trail on her overripe ass.

She swiped a finger behind her on the clear stream I’d left, turning her neck to look at me over her shoulder. She licked it off her fingers with pure joy.

“Mmm.” She licked clean each one.

I kissed her mouth hard, still pressing against her back and her neck reaching back. I positioned my dick underneath the space between her thighs, feeling her wetness dribbling down onto me.

I rocked back and forth, feeling the slick softness of her vulva. I pushed the skirt of her nightie up to her waist and entered her vagina from behind. It squeezed me tight, yielding to me, not wanting to let go.

I held her tits, rubbing them as I thrust into her. She moved her ass in time with my motions, and the friction sent sparks through my body.

I could feel Logan, my wolf, growling, and I nipped at Luka’s neck. I felt more than her, though. Her wolf leapt up in her body, and I felt it interact with mine.

I drove myself into her alternating speeds, slowing down when I felt myself getting close. I wanted it to last. Even though I knew I’d instantly be hungry for her again once it was done.

With a rush of fluid and a spasming grip, I felt her pussy contracting as she came, and I felt my orgasm release inside her.

“Oh my God, Caleb. How are you doing this?” she moaned, drawing out the syllables as she orgasmed.

“Because of you, Luka. Because of you.” I finished spurting and groaned.

I lay her down beside me and held her, feeling our sweat on our panting bodies. I closed my eyes, smelling her scent.

And then I opened them, and I remembered where I was: in the king’s suite at Gold Key Pack, in my own king-sized bed, just waking up from a dream.

It was simultaneously the best and most crushing way to start my day. I missed her.

“Sleep well, your highness?” Frederick asked at the breakfast table. The Gold Key Pack alpha, Llewellyn Withnell, looked with interest.

“Yes, the accommodations were amazing, Alpha Withnell.”

The alpha nodded with delight. “It’s like sleeping on a cloud, that bed.”

“Pleasant dreams?” Warren asked.

“Hmm. Yes, I think so. I don’t really remember,” I lied.

Maybe it was just because this was the first pack visit of the trip, but I couldn’t help but compare it to Long Lake Pack. It felt unfair to Gold Key because he was an exemplary alpha, one of the best in the kingdom, and in every way superior to Long Lake Pack.

Every way but one, that is. There was no Luka here.

For the last five months, I’d barely spent a day without her, and usually then it was only because she wasn’t conscious or was in the hospital. I initiated the pack tour so suddenly to try to get her off my mind, but I was thinking of her more than ever.

She would have loved the landscaping here, I thought when we entered the grounds. There was a hedge maze and a butterfly garden, and I could imagine her sketching all afternoon. Gold Key was known for its intricate desserts, incorporating delicate layers of pastry and gold leaf.

If Luka were here, I would have requested the chef make one especially for her, with blueberries and almonds, which she had come to love since starting the diet plan.

“Oh, good morning, my love.” Alpha Withnell stood up and kissed Benetta, his Luna. I stood up, as did Warren and Frederick.

“No, no, sit, please, enjoy yourselves,” Benetta said with a wave of her hand before turning to her husband. “Sweetheart, why didn’t you wake me up?”

“You looked so peaceful, I didn’t want to wake you.”

“But the alpha king is here!”

“When he’s as beautiful as you are, then you can wake up early for him.” He winked at me.

“Yes, your husband and staff have taken good care of us. I’m glad you got some rest. I’m sure it’s not easy having a monarch drop in unexpectedly with a day’s notice.”

“Not at all, your highness,” Benetta said. “Once you’ve had children, nothing really surprises you anymore.”

“You can call me just Caleb, Lady Benetta.”

“All right, with one condition.”

“Yes?”

“As long as you drop the Lady Benetta business. Bennie is just fine.”

“Bennie! Really! How long have you had that nickname?”

“We had it as kids.” She gestured to her husband. “Bennie and Lenny. We were always together.”

“Wow, so it’s like you were fated to be fated,” I mused.

Alpha Withnell and Lady Benetta looked at each other with an odd smile, and she shrugged.

“Not exactly…”

“You seem like such a natural fit, and it sounds like you were inseparable as children.”

“We were best friends. Our families went on vacation together. But…” Benetta pursed her lips together.

Llewellyn finished for her. “But we were not fated mates.”

There was silence around the table. Not only was it surprising that they weren’t fated mates, but also that they spoke so openly despite the stigma of second chances.

Alpha Llewellyn wrapped an arm around his wife. “It was not without its difficulties, both of us going through our own rejection experiences. But there’s something special when you’re second-chance. Like fate happened to you because of you, not in spite of you.”

“That’s a beautiful way of seeing it,” I said, thinking only of Luka, wondering what she was doing right now.

“Plus, he’s just so handsome,” Benetta said with a giggle. She tousled his white hair and kissed him on his white-bearded cheek.

“I married up, that’s for sure,” Llewellyn said.

They acted like newlyweds, despite being married for decades. I wanted to ask them all sorts of questions, about breaking the mate bond, about whether they both fell for each other at the same time or whether it was staggered, and what the difficulties that Llewellyn mentioned were.

Llewellyn and Benetta started talking about the itinerary for the day, which would entail horse-back riding around historic sites and a tour of the state-of-the-art water-filtration system.

Looking at them, I pictured my own future, seeing myself and Luka as a graying older couple. Just as quickly, the image popped. It all depended on whether her wolf would come back, and, when it did, whether she felt the mate bond.

It wasn’t without difficulties, Llewellyn had said. For them, the hardships were surmountable. For me and Luka, there was no way of knowing.
