Chapter 215
“Where is he going?”
“To rally with the rest of the remaining werewolves to come up with a plan and try to make a final stand… at least that’s what he said he’s doing.”
“I’ll go with him—” I broke off and looked at Cillian. “On…second thought, will you take me to Wolf Fang?”
He cocked an eyebrow. “What do I get out of it?”
My stomach jolted, and my heart raced. Was this the point that he’d ask me for sex? Would it be so bad? It felt so good the way he touched me, the feeling of his fingers inside me. Wouldn’t it be like that but more? Would we have sex before we left? Heat pooled in my gut at the thought. Candido had sex before we found each other. He wasn’t even talking to me right now. The jealousy he would have to feel knowing that I had slept with Cillian would definitely be enough to make him come around and break whatever enchantment Estella still had on him.
“You… want me to sleep with you?”
He laughed. My face heated. “I’m not inexperienced enough to not know how to seduce a woman.”
He smirked. “And you’re already mostly seduced, aren’t you? I can still smell you.”
I didn’t say anything as he adjusted his bag. Instead, I glanced over toward Candido to see his reaction, but he was busy getting people onto a truck and didn’t seem to be listening.
“Usually, I would say no, but I am already planning to go to Wolf Fang, and Raven mentioned something about you going. The leader of that place is your father, right?”
“Yes.”
“Blonde?” He asked wryly.
“Yes…”
He chuckled and shook his head. “Of course.”
“Why are you going to Wolf Fang?”
“Raven has a feeling that what we’re looking for is there, and I can’t help but agree.”
“What are you looking for?” I asked.
“It’s a vampire thing,” he said. “Not really your concern, is it?”
I set my jaw. “That seems like you’re hiding something. I have the right to know as a leader of Full Moon.”
“Last I checked, you’re barely a member.”
My jaw dropped. “I’m his luna. I am a leader.”
“Sure.” He smirked, but his expression said he was just humoring me. “Doesn’t matter though. You can’t have it both ways, Miss Werewolf. You are welcome to tag along so long as you don’t get in the way.”
“Get in the way?”
He looked at me. “You have a terrible habit of trying to be on a battlefield when you have no combat training. Getting in the way of tactical maneuvers and disobeying direct orders.”
I huffed. “That’s not true. I—”
“So, let me be clear,” he said. “If you step out of line, even once, I’ll leave you right where you are to figure it out for yourself.”
My jaw dropped. “I can’t believe you would just leave me.”
“I don’t have time to coddle you,” Cillian said. “You want to be treated like an adult, like a member of the forces, like you’re here to help, then act like it or stay here. I’m not Candido. I don’t have an infinite amount of patience for your childish behavior and I’m not going to pretend like I do.”
I set my jaw. “How can you talk to me like that?”
He snorted. “Easily. Are you going to stay out of my way, or are you staying here?”
“I could get someone else to take me.”
“Do so, then.” He turned and headed towards another group of people.
I couldn’t believe he would say that. I was so angry, but as I looked back at the camp and around, I realized that Cillian was really the only person who would take me. I watched him getting ready to leave and set my jaw. He was really the only option I had. Besides, if what he was looking for was the Heart of the Moon, then I definitely had to go. I had to get it before anyone else, so I could use it on Candido. It would be much easier than trying to kill the last five members of Blue Moon.
I went to Cillian. “Okay.”
Cillian cocked his head. “I thought you were finding someone else.”
I dropped my gaze. “There’s no point in trying to if you’re already heading in that direction…”
He scoffed. “Burned that many bridges, have you? You’ll learn.”
He turned away from me. “Where’s Peter?”
“He’ll be returning soon,” someone said and eyed me. “Sir, are we really—”
“Yes,” Cillian said with a little amusement in his voice. “Do you have a spare pair of pants?”
The man grimaced. “Not that I’d give her.”
I glared at the man as Cillian laughed. Then, Peter appeared and drifted to the ground a few feet away.
“Peter, you have any pants with you?”
Peter turned to look at me. His gaze drifted over me. His nose wrinkled with disgust, and he walked toward Cillian.
“No, I don’t.”
Cillian shrugged and looked at me. “I suppose if you have to worry about protecting your modesty, you’ll probably be more likely to stay out of trouble. Onto the truck, and we’ll get going.”
I waited for Peter to offer to help me, but he walked around me and pulled Cillian a little away from the truck. The vampire seated in the back of the truck looked down at me.
“Aren’t you going to help me up?” I asked.
“As far as I’m concerned, you’re not a lady, so no.”
I glared at him and hauled myself onto the truck bed. Psyche sat in the truck bed as far away from me as possible. She said nothing, staring out into the distance.
“And you wouldn’t help me either?”
She glanced at me. “Estella would have helped you.”
I scowled at her and pulled the tailcoat of the jacket over my legs as I scooted further into the truck bed. I looked back over to where Peter and Cillian were still talking. A light gold bubble was around them.
I sat back against the truck bed and looked across the clearing to where Candido was getting ready to leave. He climbed into the back of a jeep and ordered them to roll out, driving away from me.
He didn’t even look back, and I set my jaw. When this was over, I would make sure that we’d never be apart again. He would have the heart to leave me when this was done when he realized how great of a luna I could be. What a great luna I am.
I just had to be patient for Estella’s magic to wear off. The bubble popped and they came to the truck. Cillian and Peter climbed into the back of the two trucks before they cranked up and started driving after Candido’s caravan. Cillian was on the other truck, seemingly keeping a lookout. Psyche was keeping a lookout from our truck and I looked over at Peter who sat across from me.
“What were you two talking about?”
His eyes were hard. “Vampires business.”
“What else can you tell me about the Heart of the Moon?”
“Nothing,” Peter said stiffly.
I pouted. “There has to be something—”
“I have nothing to say to you,” he said, his eyes glinting in the night.
I gasped. “How could you say that? You were flirting with me before.”
He scoffed. “You’re delusional. I was being nice because you and Raven share a mother, but now that I know what a traitor you are—”
“You can’t call me that!”
“—blood and otherwise, I have no reason to be nice to you.” He glared at me. “How dare you even think yourself worthy of any sort of kindness after everything you’ve done and everything you’re still plotting to do.”
He shook his head. “Why His Majesty hasn’t just killed you yet, I don’t know, and honestly, I don’t care.”
“Candido would never kill me.”
“He should,” Peter said. “And spare the rest of his loved ones from untimely deaths. I would appreciate it if you refrained from speaking to me for the rest of this excursion.”
I glared at him. “What are you even here for? We’re going to my father’s territory.”
“I’m the messenger,” Peter said. “As soon as I find what we’re looking for, I’m taking it back to Ian, and that will, hopefully, be the last time I ever have to see you.”
I clenched my jaw. He had to be talking about the Heart of the Moon.
“I’m not letting you take it,” I said. “I have my own plans for it.”
He snorted. “You don’t even know what it looks like or how to use it, werewolf.”
The Moon Goddess was on my side. It didn’t matter that I didn’t know how to use it now. I’d know how to use it when the time came.
