Chapter 242

The fury simmered behind the tears in her eyes before she turned back to the group.

They talked a little longer When they broke apart, none of them came my way. Most of them went with Wren, but the man with bandages headed toward a different truck. I eyed him suspiciously. What was he doing separate from the rest of them? Were the rest of them going to Candido and leaving him behind? Where were they going?

I looked across the way as Harper and Wren and the others looked at me, glaring. Their eyes were filled with red light. They drove away, never taking their eyes off me. One of the women was crying. I looked over at the bandaged man as he hauled himself onto the back of the truck, still leaning to one side. Then, the truck I was in started to drive away. I turned back to see where were going and knew we were headed toward the mountain from my vision.

My heart started to race. It seemed like we were heading to the end of the war now.

“Black Team,” someone said. “En route to Gold Team.”

We were headed toward where Candido was. My heart lightened, and I gripped the edge of the truck, willing the truck to go faster.

Soon, I could see the city near the mountain from my vision. The city was all in ruins, but I could see people moving around and heading toward the mountain.

Soon, we turned off into the forest. The man kept firing into the forest as we neared wherever we were going.

The first thing I saw was Candido standing above the crowd, just behind a shimmering wall of light. I couldn’t hear anything he was saying, but when he turned to me. His eyes were filled with red light and I could see the sword and gun on his belt. He looked like he’d showered or at least changed clothes. He was wearing armor as he told people what to do.

As soon as we drove through the wall of light, noise exploded. People were hauling ammo and supplies onto trucks. Candido was giving order after order, and everyone seemed to be listening to him. He didn’t glance at me. Then, he seemed to vanish. One of the jeeps carrying a bunch of people left, and I swore that one of them was Candido.

Everyone else got off the truck, but I wasn’t going to. There was a good chance that this truck was going to follow the one that Candido was on, so there was no point. The man with bandages got off the truck he was on as I looked around, trying to figure out when we would be heading after Candido. Then, someone grabbed me. I looked up and saw the bandaged man yanking me down into the back of the jeep. I screamed, and he stuffed a gag in my mouth and tied it around my head. My heart raced as I tried to fight him. I thought he would attack me like those men who had attacked me in the locker room. My eyes burned with tears. Did Candido know that his family member was capable of something like this? My heart raced as he yanked my hands together and shackled me with shiny silver handcuffs to a rail of the jeep. I tried to curl away from him, but he didn’t reach for me. Instead, he sank onto the edge of the jeep and loaded a hand gun slowly.

Was he going to shoot me?

“My Vanessa deserved better,” he said softly. “My Van… had a full life ahead of him until you got in the way.”

My eyes bulged as I looked up at him. His eyes glowed red. Was he Vanessa’s husband? My stomach turned. Then, he closed the chamber and took a deep breath. I struggled, trying to get free, but the cuffs barely clinked against the railing.

“I’m not going to shoot you,” I said. “Though… I will say that I’m very tempted.” He glanced at me. “The Goddess has… bigger plans for you.”

He pulled out a pipe and filled it. “There’s going to be a point in which you think you will win. I’m telling you this now, that you aren’t.”

He smiled. “I know that you want to kill me and the rest of my family, but I’m already dying.”

I narrowed my eyes and he chuckled as he took another puff of his pipe.

“The only reason I’m doing this… is because I want to be with them,” he said. “If I knew my boy would live, I’d let you run in and get yourself killed during the battle and let the rest of the world be free of your existence… Unfortunately, you still have a part to play in this.”

He glared at me. “Candido asked for mercy for you. Her hand is stayed for now, but there will never be forgiveness or love for you.”

His words made my stomach turn. He said nothing more and he turned away from me and walked off the edge of the jeep. He leaped down and walked off. I tried to scream, but no one seemed to hear me. I turned and tried to get free, but I couldn’t break it. I strained against the bonds as quiet fell around me. The clouds started to gather over the valley beneath the mountain. The ground shook. My heart raced as the ground started to split open. Brilliant flashes of light filled the air as glowing brilliant silver started to rise out of the ground.

My vision was coming true.

I pulled at the restraints, but they didn’t break. More flashes of light filled the air as the silver continued to flow, but I saw a group wrapped in golden light rushing toward the base of the mountain. Smoke lifted up from the silver pool where the vampires were being burned to death. The group surrounded with golden light, rushed towards the mountain and started to climb above the silver pooling on the ground.

So many vampires screeched and fell to a flash of flame. Another fissure started to open up in the ground. My heart raced. I couldn’t see Candido, but I knew he had to be there. Gunshots fill the air, shooting down several of the vampires, but it wasn’t enough. They kept going.

Then, I heard the sound of footsteps nearby. I turned and looked up as a group of vampires made their way toward the little camp. Whoever was left rushed around. I heard gunshots, but it was short. I heard bones cracking and blood splashing. Someone screamed as I lay flat in the truck bed, hoping that I wouldn’t be found.

I heard them tearing through whatever was left in the camp. I heard metal creaking and breaking. Then, the jeep tilted and tumbled me over. My back hit the ground, and the jeep turned over on top of me. It rolled, dragging me along. My arm felt like it was being yanked out of the socket. I couldn’t scream loud enough to get through the gag in my mouth.

When the jeep stopped, I knew that I was bleeding from some of the wounds. It hurt so much that I couldn’t even breathe. I couldn’t think.

“You thought you could hide?” One of them cackled.

She stopped the jeep with a hand on the bumped and looked down at me. She laughed.

“Oh, how quaint. They left you here just for us. I expected more of you…”

“You’re thinking of Raven. This is the half-breed.” He laughed. “This one’s a bit too small.”

“Oh…” she snickered. “That would explain that.”

Everything in me ached as she came towards me. She grabbed me by the neck and squeezed. She snapped the handcuff and laughed. She sniffed me.

“Hmmm… not much wolf in you, hm?” She chuckled. “Guess that’s what he meant by the promise land!”

The others who were with her laughed as she sunk her teeth into my shoulder. She let out a groan. I felt her drinking. I could feel my blood leaving my body. I screamed, trying to get away from her. My eyes burned. The only person behind her was other men who looked just as hungry.

“Leave some for the rest of us.:

“Candido…” I whispered as tears streamed down my face.

One of the men laughed. “You think he’s going to come to save you? He’s a little busy.”

They laughed, and I couldn’t say anything. The gag was so thick in my mouth that it felt dry.

I didn’t want to die here, but it didn’t seem like I didn’t have a choice. The world started to go black in my vision. Suddenly, she was yanked away from me, and I fell to the ground. I heard screeching. I saw flashes of light and sounds of fury.

“Get her!”

“Kill her!”
