Chapter 4 Untitled Chapter
Chapter four
The next morning, when Rina ran breathless to the training grounds, it was already filled to the brim with warriors sparring against each other with a terrifying display of skill.
Even standing among the huge pack warriors, Rina could still easily spot the Prince. He was frowning beside Cain, observing his warriors as they trained.
The mate bond that tethered her to him urged her to fling herself in his arms like a teen with her first crush.
The Alpha prince immediately spotted Rina and started walking towards her with a long legged stride.
“Little wolf, you’re late.”
“I’m sorry alpha prince.” Rina lowered her eyes in embarrassment. “I overslept.”
His eyes narrowed but he didn’t push the subject.
“Come with me,” he told her, moving towards where some females were sparring. “I want to test your strength against one of our female warriors. Do you agree with that?”
Rina was surprised that the prince was asking for her permission. “Okay.” Rina replied, nervously.
“Don’t worry,” Alpha Lyon assured her. “She’s a beginner and she’ll go easy on you.”
But to Rina’s horror, the female warrior he called to spar with her was Lei, one of Rina’s biggest bullies in the pack.
Lei grinned nastily when she saw Rina. She was going to enjoy this, she thought.
Immediately, Alpha Lyon signaled for the match to start, she tackled Rina to the hard floor with brute wolf strength in seconds. Most of the warriors snorted when they saw how easily Rina was thrown to the floor. How could someone as weak as she become their future queen, they thought nastily.
“Lei!” The alpha prince’s voice was harsh. “I told you to take it easy!”
Raising his arm he lifted Rina up from the ground. “Are you okay?” He asked in concern.
From beyond his shoulders, Rina could see most of the wolves smirking. It pissed her off, making her answer, “I’m fine.” Even though she wasn’t.
Lyon was worried but he could do nothing so the fight continued.
Rina, though, was angry. She settled in a fighting stance, wanting to get her own back at the bully that had tormented her for so long.
But even with all her anger, sadly she was still no match for the she-wolf. She continued to pin Rina over and over again.
Lei was slowly becoming pissed off. No matter how much she pinned Rina, the weak human girl still continued to stand up and fight.
Enraged, she targeted Rina’s right hand, using her werewolf strength to twist and break Rina’s arm. Rina dropped to the ground, screaming in intense pain.
The alpha was furious, feeling Rina’s pain as his own. His beast partially came out and he raised the suddenly fearful Lei up with one hand wrapped around her neck.
“How dare you?” Lyon's voice had turned to that of his beast.
The smile on everyone’s faces had long since died and everyone was fearful, the lower ranked wolves even almost peeing their pants at the rage rolling off of the prince.
“Alpha, please. Have mercy. I don’t know what I was thinking,” Lei began apologizing profusely.
“Prince Lyon, we don’t have time for this.” Cain interrupted. “We need to take the girl to the healer so she can set her hand before it’s too late.”
Fighting for control of his beast, Lyon threw the she-wolf to the floor disgustedly and nodded at Cain.
“Take her to the seer,” He allowed, giving Cain permission to touch Rina. “Handle her gently. I’ll take care of things here.”
Cain nodded grimly and carried the quietly weeping Rina to the seer swiftly with his werewolf speed.
The door of the seer’s hut was already open as if she were expecting them.
“Get her up on the bed there,” the wise woman ordered, before giving Rina some foul tasting herbs to “numb the pain” she said.
Rina gripped the bed, whimpering as the wise woman’s weathered hands reset Rina’s bones after rubbing some salve into it, making her black out for a second.
When Rina came about later, the only person by her bedside was Cain.
“How long have I been out? She asked, her voice hoarse from screaming.
“A couple of minutes.” His eyes regarded her steadily. “How do you feel?”
“A bit sore but this isn’t the first time I’ve had my arm broken,” said Rina, laughing bitterly.
Cain didn’t seem surprised to hear this news.
“You should drop out of the challenges,” he told her steadily, his voice emotionless. “The Luna challenges is a deadly game and you’re only a weak omega. You’ll end up dead.”
Rina reared back. “What makes you think so?”
“What makes me think so?” Cain laughed harshly. “Did you see what happened just now. Your arm wouldn’t be the only thing broken if the prince hadn’t been present. Consider it a mercy that you’re still alive and back out of the challenges. Because during the trials, there will be no holding back.”
“Leave now while you still can,” the beta advised, turning persuasive. “I can help you leave the palace gates…”
He kept on talking but Rina just wanted to know one thing. “Does the prince know you’re telling me all this? Did he put you up to it?”
“No,” his jaw clenched. “Fool, that he is, he actually believes you have a chance.”
Rins felt her heart warm. Even if no one else believed in her, the prince, her mate, did. And that made all the difference in the world.
Cain was still droning on. “But you and I both know the truth that… eek! Where are you going?”
Rina ignored him and continued going until she reached the training grounds again. Her sights were set on Lei who was serving punishment by running fifty laps around the track.
With her bandaged arm stiff at her side, she marched up to Lei, her bully, and using all her might, punched her straight in the face!
