Chapter six

“Here’s your winner by knockout, defeating the princess of Smyria, Rina!”

At the official’s words, chaos erupted throughout the crowd. What had they just watched? How could an ordinary omega and a former slave just defeat a werewolf? Just what exactly was Rina?

Just then, Lyon leaped into the arena where Rina was still standing, unblinking, like one possessed.

“Rina…” the alpha prince stretched his palm out to her but she gazed at him with no recognition in her eyes. “I’m not going to hurt you, Rina “

Red-eyed Rina bared her fangs in warning before suddenly, as if her entire body shut down, she fell to the ground unconscious.

But before she could hit the floor though, Lyon was already there to catch her and carry her up in his arms.

Concerned at the amount of blood loss, he carried her swiftly to the seer's hut, ignoring every other person around him.

The wise woman looked up when he entered and arched her brow. “So your mate has won her first challenge. No one thought she would, Prince Lyon."

“I did. I knew she was strong. But now she’s unconscious. And there’s so much blood. You have to stop it.” The prince begged for the first time in his life.

He was worried that Rina might not survive it after losing so much blood but the seer just chuckled.

“But I don’t have to do anything. Your mate has already healed herself. Look closely.”

True to the wise woman’s words, when Lyon peered at Rina’s skin, her wounds had long ago closed up like it had never been in the first place.

“But how?” The prince asked in wonder. “And why is she still unconscious?”

“She’ll be fine. Her body just needs rest.”

Lyon’s shoulders eased a little hearing that. Seeing Rina put herself in danger and being forced to watch it had been excruciating for the prince. Many times his beast had tried to take control from him but he had forced him back, having absolute faith in Rina’s abilities.

His face was unknowingly displaying a tender expression and the seer caught on it immediately.

“It seems like you care for this girl. Maybe too much.” The seer observed.

Immediately, the prince’s face became inscrutable. “What are you trying to say, wise woman?” The prince bit out, his voice hard as rock.

The seer pinned him with a direct look. “You should know by now that your mate is not just an ordinary omega. But you should also know that there’s no way your father, the king, is going to accept her as your mate or as the Queen Luna of the kingdoms.”

The words echoed with a bitter truth. It was obvious to everyone that the king hated Rina with a fierce passion though no one knew why.

“Why does he hate her so much? What did she do wrong?”

The seer shook her white head slowly. “There’s much you don’t know, alpha prince. But soon the whole truth will be exposed.”

The prince was frustrated at the seer’s cryptic words but before he could demand answers from her, Rina showed the first signs of stirring up in his arms.

She awakened slowly and her eyes landed on the alpha prince first. “Where am I?”

Lyon was just glad to note that her normal eye color was back. “You’re at the seer’s hut. How are you feeling? Any pain anywhere?”

Rina frowned. “No I don’t. Why are you asking?”

“You should take your mate away, Prince Lyon. She’s going to need her rest.” The seer interrupted, before disappearing through another door.

Rina was confused at first. She didn’t understand why she was suddenly finding herself in the seer’s hut again until in a blinding rush, memories of the last hours began to take shape in her head.

“Oh goddess! What have I done?” She gasped in horror.

The prince saw that she was already remembering and tried to calm her down. But just then, five of the Alpha King’s personal warriors suddenly intruded in the house.

Seeing the prince, they bowed uniformly. “Prince Lyon.”

Lyon’s eyes narrowed as he wondered what they were doing here. “Yes? What business do you have here?”

One stepped forward, obviously the leader of the group. He wore the blue uniform of the palace guards and had a star emblem to denote his rank as one of the King’s personal warriors.

“Alpha Prince, we have come with a message from the king himself. The slave has been summoned to the royal court where she’s to face trial, wherein she’ll be punished if she’s found guilty.”

Rina gasped.

Lyon growled, his arm tightening around Rina’s to the point of pain. His nails had grown sharp talons and his beast was on the verge of bursting out. “A royal trial? For what reason? What crime has she been accused of now?”

“We weren’t told, your highness.”

Lyon had had enough of this. “Get out of here before I throw you out.” His voice was pissed.

“Your highness, we can’t leave unless the slave comes with—”

The warrior didn’t finish before he suddenly found himself slammed hard against the world and a pissed off Alpha ready to tear him to pieces.

“Who are you calling a slave?” He snarled.

The pure dangerous aura exuding from the prince was enough to make the warriors tremble.

“Your highnes, I didn’t mean it that way. Please forgive me!” He begged.

Lyon’s hand tightened at his throat. “If you ever call your future Luna a slave ever again, I'll cut off your tongue and feed it to you slowly, do you understand?”

The leader was pissing his pants now. “Yes, Alpha prince. Never again, I promise. Please don’t cut off my tongue…”

“Don’t apologize to me. Apologize to Rina.” He snarled. “And make sure she accepts it or else…”

The warrior almost stumbled all over himself to apologize to her, pleading profusely like his life depended on it.

“I forgive you.” Rina said, pitying him.

She really didn’t see it as a big deal, she’d been called much worse, but she knew the prince wouldn’t let it go so she accepted the apology.

Then she tugged on the prince’s arm when he still didn’t let the man. “Leave him be, Lyon. He was just doing his job. Let’s just go and see what the king wants. Please.”

It was the please that did it.

The warrior gasped out loud when he was suddenly released and sank to the floor. After giving them one last thunderous look, Lyon took Rina’s hand and together they went to face the Alpha King and his court.
