Chapter 2 Chapter 2

Lucian's POV

A new girl.

That was fine. There were new girls every year.

But a human?

No one told me about this.

Was this an intentional way to override my authority?

Who would dare?

I was holding down my anger when my eyes found her.

It wasn't hard to sense an odd presence in the school as a werewolf. As an alpha. Did they honestly think this would slide past me?

I'd just gotten back from the meeting I was in with The Academy Council. I had to make sure everything was according to the rules.

When she was formally called, I had to admit I was a bit taken aback when I looked her all over. Despite being human, something about her felt

… not.

Her face and aura was striking, and I wandered away for a moment.

But then I shook it off.

I'd put an end to this.

“This is a mistake,” I said coolly to the Headmistress.

I didn't care for reactions. I was doing what was right.

“Silverthorne is not a charity. You should leave.”

I didn't expect Reina to step closer. Surprisingly, I had to stop myself from stepping away.

“Sorry, Draven. I'm not going anywhere. You're not my Mom.”

She had some guts. She was lucky I wasn't in a killing mood, if not, the entire stage would be filled with blood by now. Hers.

So I simply reached for her wrist.

“I’ll remove the mistake myself.”

Then I touched her.

It was like a shockwave… a feeling I couldn't describe that almost stopped my heart.

I staggered back, instinctively letting go.

I'd coughed out blood.

I dropped to one knee in shock, not understanding what the hell had just happened.

It didn't matter though, because I was pissed.

And I wanted to kill Reina Clementine.

The gasps and screams in the hall shook the ground, and even the Headmistress who was usually so composed rushed to me with worried eyes.

But I didn't move.

I still stared right at my assailant.

A girl…

A mere human…

Brought me to my knees…

I gritted my teeth, my fangs extending and my claws following suit. Before I could launch an attack, I felt myself held down by hands, screams louder.

I watched Reina’s facial expression turn to fear when she looked at me, an unfamiliar figure protecting her from my view.

I felt something in my chest stir at that moment, but I didn't bother with it.

My emotions were all-consuming, I was losing my breath, my eyes getting blurry as I coughed out blood again.

I didn't know when I was dragged away from the hall, but I found myself in an unfamiliar room minutes later.

My eyesight was still blurry, but I could feel, sense, hear panicked words, hurried movements, needles prickling my skin and murmurs of assurance all at once.

Then I started to feel dizzy. So I closed my eyes.

When I woke up, I could see clearly, my sense of smell overridden by antiseptic . I found myself in a bed, surrounded by white and familiar beeping sounds.

No one was in the room.

I didn't need to think too much as I sat up.

The memories of what happened rushed through me and I became angry again.

I gripped the bedsheets tightly.

“Fuck," I cursed.

The door was pushed open and a coldness suddenly surrounded the room.

I tensed when I realized who it was.

The footsteps moving towards my bed were sure and slow.

It wasn't until the figure stood in front of me did they speak.

“You’re awake.”

I raised my head. "Yes, sir.”

Kristof, my father's right-hand man stood, imposing, with his emotionless eyes. “Your father was very disappointed when he found out the reason for your… hospitalization and he has some words for you.” He continued. "It's better I pass it off than he himself. Just know, he is not very happy.”

I said nothing. He was right. It was better.

“A little girl," Kristof said, cold. “A little human girl caused you to be hospitalized. Don't you think you're a little too delicate, Lucian? The heir to Draven acting like this is abominable." His voice got colder. "She should be dead. And I expect some good news very soon."

I remained silent.

I listened as Kristof quietly left moments later after he was done with the message.

I was more angry and humiliated than I'd been in a long time.

And it was all because of her.

An emergency meeting had been set but I'd missed it since I'd been unconscious.

Properly suited up, I walked through the halls with purpose.

Everyone who saw me hurriedly gave way.

My killing intent was palpable.

I had to wait to be addressed, I couldn't search for the Reina girl, I had to stay calm so they could figure out what happened to me… I had to wait.

But I didn't want to.

So I dressed up from my dorm and got back to the council office to talk to them. I wanted answers. I'd given them enough time to scramble.

“Wait! You're not supposed to be he-"

Some people tried to stop me from going through the doors, but once they saw it was me, they backed off.

But before I could push open the one particular door that would give me my answers, someone was passing through the hallway, just out a door some feet away froze when they saw me.

It was her again.

I ground my teeth, and I held down my fangs.

“We meet again, new girl," I slowly let out.

She reared back, her eyes widened.

I could hear her heartbeat and I could smell something familiar around her.

Fear.

My eyes kept her stuck in place.

Good.

She should be fucking scared.

She humiliated me with her disrespect, with whatever she did to my body.

I'd never gotten on my knees in front of anyone. She even made my father admonish me.

A fucking nobody.

Prey.

That's what she was to me now.

No matter what, if it's the last thing I do, Reina Clementine wasn't going to last a semester in Silverthorne Academy.
